Mortal Kombat X Announce Trailer

Awwww man, they have a new game already and I've only been able to find 1 match of MK9 on PC.

This looks like a mix of real game and fake. I say that because it has great detail visually, but has dated looking animations that could be done on last-gen hardware, which is just weird.

People seem to not be feeling the song, but I don't mind it purely because I get a kick out of anything A$AP Rocky comes out with.

IMO, they should have just remixed the original MK song in some degenerate industrial / dubstep / symphonic / Japanese Taiko manner... I'd be way more into internal bleeding with that.

Yeah, this sure does have all the Trailer "flare" as usual, but if those moments when the camera goes to 2D are actual gameplay, then I'm impressed.

I like Wiz Khalifa, but yeah... don't know if his music fits MK at all. Still pretty excited for a new MK game.

If that was gameplay or even moderately indicative of how matches will play out (sans Wiz Khalifa) then I'm excited. I was indifferent about MK9 as the hype sort of fizzled for me, but Boon's attitude toward MKX combined with the UE4 confirmation has me pumped as hell.

I like rap. I did not like how this particular rap was used in this trailer. It was tonally different than what I was seeing on the screen.

That said, MK9 was dope as hell and I can't wait to see what they have in store.

I kinda wish this was not coming to last gen platforms. I understand the business reasons but if they had taken the Arkham Knight route we would probably get a better looking game that might even be able to implement some cool gameplay features that would be hard to do on last gen tech.

That said, this is a fighting game (with presumably 2D gameplay). You are rendering 2 primary characters, a background, maybe some background characters and some binary environmental destruction. A shinier version for current gen platforms is probably fine and I could go for some more Mortal Kombat in the style of the last game.

Totally ready for a new MK. Also, if the environmental stuff is a clue to how the game will play, didn't those kind of break the balance in Injustice? I seem to remember hearing the side you play could put you at an advantage.

I'm totally bummed because I thought that this was an MK X(cross) whomever game. It's just MK10. PFFFT!

Yeah I thought the track matched the tone reasonably well. Rap swagger and competitive fighting pretty much go hand in hand.

Plus Wiz Khafila tweeted this out to his 14 million followers, which is probably a damn good way to expand the MK audience beyond 30 year old white dudes in heavy metal t-shirts.

Personally I would have went with Da Mystery of Chessboxin, but to each his own.

well you gotta remember they still somewhat make good on their storylines they set up, storywise Mk9 was still a sequel to Armageddon, even Boon said so during the hype for Mk9, Armageddon ended with the majority dead and Shao Khan winning the grand tournament that blaze started which caused Raiden to go back and reset the timeline. and MK VS DC is just a straight spin off, no connections to no main timeline.

they are not afraid of changing things up i agree with you there and they did throw away some big gameplay features along the way, but they still manage to do good by the fans that are interested in the grand overall plotline. and they did tease Shinnok who was the Mk4 boss afterall, but i agree with you though that that section of MK is not as revered as the 1st 3 games (even though i did still like the overall plotline from that section of MK :P),

my guess is, unless they really go all multiverse/multiple timelines insanity, itill be a bit of both worlds, introduce some of the core characters from that section of MK like Frost, Fujin, Bo Rai cho, Tanya and then introduce new ones and take it from there with a original storyline.

but we'ill see what happens. we should know more by E3, just amazing to me that its the 10th game in the series, and they still are managing to find something new to do with it.

Although MK9 was pretty great for a fighting game (first one I actually put any time into since the first couple MK's)... the graphics were complete SHIT. This trailer was CG, not in game graphics, I guarantee you that. NetherRealm does not do good graphics anymore. I'm surprised so many commenters are actually wondering if that was in-game footage.. IT WAS NOT!

I love how the two major takeaways from this trailer today have been, "oo this looks great" and "Ed Boon subjected me to two minutes of rap music, oh god, my life is forever ruined, how will I ever go on now?!?!"

If this trailer came out ten years ago I might have been excited. But things have progressed a lot and i'm not sure what the hell this is supposed to be. Game play? CGI trailer? Working Concept? All three?

Also, it brings up an interesting question.

When I see trailers with traditional classical music, some twee whimsical Apple commercial style music, bandwagon generic royalty-free dubstep or other EDM, generic rock, or otherwise crappy or seemingly ill-fitting music nobody says much negative about it (aside from the offhanded "wub wub" comment for anything vaguely resembling electronic music of any kind). It's simply considered mediocre and overlooked.

But as soon as it's something set to hip hop music the comments are filled with people ignoring everything else about the trailer and raging about how terrible rap is.

Is it really that much worse? Is it even the actual music those people are worried about? Because it kind of seems like something else.
