Oh man, seems silly to have nostalgic feelings for such a recent game, but I'm pretty sure N+ was one of the first games I played on my 360.

Super meat boy sort of invalidated N+ with its better controls and faster pace. I really hope they modernize this game for 2014...

Man I remember playing this ages ago when it was still a downloadable flash game. I don't think I was even in high school yet. I remember these guys saying they've had a hard time moving beyond this game. Like, either the inspiration hasn't been there or they have never had quite the same quality of execution or something. In any case, I hope these Metanet folks are able to get into a groove and not end up like team 17.

Wow its been years since I've seen N+ I wouldn't mind playing another one, hopefully it'll come out on Vita too which would be an awesome play to play it.

N+ is neither better nor worse than SMB - it's different. The movement seems reminiscent of Dustforce (kinda floaty) but again, that doesn't mean they're both inferior, they're just different.

Invalidated? That might be too strong of a word. They were similar, no doubt, but the difference in physics forced different level designs which forced different styles of play.

N+ has a weird floaty feel to it that I couldn't quite get behind. Unlike the tight, super-fast feel of Super Meat Boy. I get the appeal, but it just didn't pull me in. I still have it on my DS I think so maybe I'll pull it out sometime...

@mormonwarrior:

I played N+ quite extensively prior to Super Meatboy coming out so after many hours I finally kind of got used to that floaty control scheme. But man, super meatboy killed it for me, I tried playing N+ after completing almost every challenge in Super Meatboy and was like "nope, I can no longer play N+". Still it's cool another one is on the way, maybe enough time has gone by since I finally put meatboy down that I can get in to N++.

@ch3burashka: Yeah, the floaty and inertia dependent physics in N make it much more about planning sustained series of movements punctuated by deliberate stops, whereas the very video-gamey physics of Meatboy make it much more twitchy and responsive, rewarding reflexes over premeditation. N, to me, feels like playing a game of pinball, in which you're obligated to study how the ball reacts to your swings of the paddles, and how to employ that knowledge to hit the various points of interest on the board. Meatboy, however, doesn't really have a real world equivalent, because the player has total control of the character's movement at any time, meaning your current wall jump won't be impacted by the previous jump, and you won't retain momentum mid jump unless you continue to hold in the direction. They're both very distinct and equally valid, mechanically, and I'm glad they both exist.
