Cool, I'm looking forward to finding out something more about the game. Based on the 1up preview I read it sounds like it could be an interesting, action RPG mixed with a neat art style. Although it remains to be seen.

From what I've read it's an action RPG, kind of like Kingdom Hearts but with a more mature setting. Hopefully they add some more depth to the combat system though since mashing the x or a button in Kingdom Hearts with maybe a jump thrown in got old after awhile.

It looks alright, but it'll take more than that until I trust an action game from square.

Is that voice the Guard from oblivion? Maybe I've just played too much Oblivion... I'm hearing it's voices wherever I go...

The fact they're trying something different other than RPG's, regardless of whether they succeed or not, should be celebrated IMO.

I'm kinda curious about this, less because of the game itself and more to see if Square-Enix is leaning to some of the more western styles in RPGs-- 'cause visually this looks so much like DAO to me.

Also, a geriatric RPG hero? Could be neat.

Played it last year at tokyo game show and it was pretty bland, seemed like a pretty generic action rpg.. but I only got to play about 10-15min so there could be some more depth to it that I didn't get to see

I agree. I will probably not going to play it (doesn't look appealing to me), but still appreciate that SE is trying things outside of JRPGs starred by teenagers.

Looks like it could be fun, I don't get people sometimes.  "Square-Enix should stick with what they do best, RPGs" "Square-Enix just makes JRPGs, they suck!".  You can't really have it both ways.

I don't think the character design is quite as original as their other games, looks a bit heavily western-ized (read: bland) to me.  Though I think some of the monster design IS really cool.  I do like that the main guy is more of an older hero though, which is rare in games these days.  Saving your daughter instead of 'save the princess and the world' is a nice twist on things.

I need to see more of the game though and get a feel for how it plays.

years ago you put SquareSoft or Enix in a game's cover and that's was all the publicity needed, but now these days i don't know how you cal lit "brand-valor" ? of squarenix it's going down down...

and talking about  about JRPG's, lately for every 10 JRPG launched  8 are shovelware , it's a shame to see a genre slowly dying :(

SE isn't making this game, they are publishing it.
Cavia (Bullet Witch/Resident Evil Wii rail shooters) developed Nier.
People that have played it already, for the most part, don't really have nice things to say.

I actually like the concept of the game quite a bit, the developer though doesn't have much of a track record looking at their games developed GB tab... Still I will give it a shot.

I got a very Bayonetta feel from the last 20 seconds.

I really want this to be good. The world needs more good action games. But part of me is thinking this is going to be a mediocre game that is forgotten about a month after release.

Yes, because some older, overly masculine no-nonsense badass trying to save his daughter is so much less cliche than a reluctant young boy trying to save a princess or something like that.

I don't get why you and some other people here are so nationalistic. Why does it matter which country makes better games? They're all corporation trying to get a share of your money. You shouldn't be concerned with who made your games but with getting the best games for your money.

just makes me wish for a good game based on Taken with Liam Nieson, now that would kick some ass, and a far better father saving his daughter story than this will likely be. But that's just me and we know how unlikely you will get a game based on movie licence to be good. I'd rather play Dante's Inferno based on it's cutting edge graphics than this, and that's saying something. Pass.

@glitznglamstyle68: I blame the damn merger. That fucked up both companies -- especially Square. Now quarterly profits are their sole concern. I miss the days when they actually cared about making innovative games too.
