This is what I've been waiting for since I got an N64 as a kid. Finally... a real 3D Pokémon game.

Anyone else get a Valkyria Chronicles vibe from this trailer?

Which I may add is a good thing...

Was that not apparent with Black and White? (Whites not a color, it's a lack of color)

Diamond and Pearl are also not colors. Well, I suppose Pearl is. But you know what I mean.

@CatsAkimbo: While I see the similarities, Eevee was clearly supposed to be based on the tanooki, which was a racoon dog from Japanese folklore with the ability to transform. The new starter much more closely resembles a fennec fox and shares traits with the kitsune.

And for those complaining about recent Pokemon including an ice cream and rubbish bag.. bare in mind that the original games had a magnet, an egg and one that is literally just a pokeball with eyes. Get over it.

Man, the only people worse than those making the lazy 'ran out of colors, huh?' joke, are the people arguing 'white's not a color, it's a lack of color *chucklesnort*'. Go eat a box of crayons.

Can someone explain why there isn't a better, more produced version of this on WiiU?

Even with the new engin, this looks like the same old shit from 10 or 15 years ago.

Because, Masuda has stated before in interviews that he sees the series as a portable franchise. The name literally means pocket monsters and he thinks of it as something where you can fit your team in your pocket to go play with friends outside and crap. It makes sense from the japanese perspective where a lot more local co-op happens, one of the reasons portable Monster Hunter has been bigger there than non portable games as well.

Already knew about that statement. Still ungodly stupid. One of the many reasons I tell nintendo to eat a dick nowadays.

Better to be portable. A WiiU version may not be better than Gamecube's Pokemon XD

I think I've figured out what's "wrong" with the new pokemon designs, and I'm not entirely sure when this started. The newer pokemon all seem to be made up of various geometric shapes. Now, I know that everything can be broken down into geometric shapes and very often cartoon characters are built that way, but usually only as a skeleton are the shapes used. It seems that the newer pokemon are literally just groupings of geometric shapes to form creatures, and it's made clearer by the shapes being separated by differing colors. You could break down Pikachu into shapes easily, but those shapes are generally the same color and form a larger, more organic shape. A pokemon like Oshawott or Chespin, when broken down, is made up of a bunch of different colored shapes, and gives them a sort of toy-like feel. I feel like maybe they're designed this way to be easier to render 3-D models for them, but it leaves them feeling strange and manufactured.

Well all pokemon have always just been anime animals, not really news to anyone that there is some kind of formula at this point.

Anyway it sucks that they are getting away from sprites, but this game looks great, and the starters look okay, better than the B/W starters which I didn't really dig besides Oshawott.

I think the issue is the ideas are too stupid an emulate real life too much. There's Pokemon that look like ice-cream, garbage, walking around with an iron girder... too much real world stuff.

I think they perfected the designs in Pokemon Gold/Silver ... It went too cute after that. I mean Red/Blue has a Pokemon tower of death filled with ghosts and Pokemon Gold/Silver has Team Rocket hacking off Slowpoke tails to sell them on the black market. The Pokemon themselves up to that point were still exaggerated animals and or Japanesey godlike beings. I dunno, that's just how I feel.

I think whatever you Pokemon game is around when you start playing are 'your' Pokemon. That's how I see it. And for fucksake ditch the fucking HM system in this one. PLEASE!!

...man I love the shit out of Pokemon Gold!!!

Yeah Gold/Silver introduced the least and was the apex. And they at least made TMs infinite. Anyway, Pokemon to me have always had some pretty aggressive designs, good and bad. Things like Goldeen, Seel, and Muk in Gen 1 always stuck out to me as lazy and bland, where as things like Magmar just looks pretty stupid, but then there are great designs like Pikachu and Sycther, and really all generations have examples like this.

Gold/Silver's designs really do have a class and form to them, they never get too weird but definitely aren't ever bland either. Fucking great games.

It's funny you should say that ... I like Seel but I see your point (but I'll defend Dewgong 'til the day I die).

The frog starter in the video looks cool, but the fox fire-type is fucking done. It's easy to say they're burning out on animal types, but c'mon, look at this planet! We have so goddamn many different type of animals. I think there's too many human-like ones too... in a lot of ways though the more plain Pokemon are better than the outlandish ones. Like Bulbasaur is palm tree crossed with a dinosaur, Squirtle is a turtle (who is later crossed with a tank), Charizard is a dragon whose tail is always on fire.

Then there's this fucker....

Only half of the games have been named after colours and that's if you're being generous and counting Gold and Silver, which were supposed to represent metals, not colours.@Shaanyboi said:

It's actually a reference of the X and Y directional axis. The Y shape is showing off that bird, and the X is referencing that crazy fucking deer thing.

It's been pointed out a few times, but the Japanese logo's actually have a DNA helix in them and the previous games set up for a sort of genetic manipulation theme. So yeah, it's chromosomes, not directional axis.

I hate Nintendo. I dont care if y'all hate me for my comments, I'm gonna express my feelings here. I grew up with Nintendo... born in 85 when it was released. I feel a connection with them pretty much giving me my current love of video games. Nintendo was great, but SNES was near perfect at the time. Now, I saw them go from the best system, with the best first party AND third party games to a baby kiddie time play toy fucking joke. From my favorite company to my least, and I'm not the only one. Any older Nintendo fan will admit that they have lost their way, their competitive spirit, and even though this business is about "business" and money, its also about games, and they have simply become cash-cow sellouts.

I'll tell you why I hate Nintendo. Because every time they want you to get excited about a franchise, do they do something awesome with it? No. They just do something slightly better than the last game in the series, which always came out WaAAAAAy before the new game, so long before in fact, that you have no choice but to feign excitement because they did ONE thing that they should have done YEARS ago, YET they refuse to do what people REAALY want. Ok, pokemon in 3d. Shoulda have been done years ago. It's fucking simple! On a console, in RPG form. It's their flagship RPG! CONSOLE YOU FUCKERS! Fuck all that pocket monster shit, I'm not in junior high anymore, I'm not gonna street pass or whatever the fuck. I live in the US, not Japan. And even if you're gonna do that, still make an OFFICIAL (at least current gen) console version! It's not like its a mystery... People complain about Nintendo all the time, openly and vocally but what do they do? They give us a new Pikmin. Noone asked for that shit. "Oh hey, we got a new game... starring... Pit! Remember him from that one game? No? how about smash bros? Yeah, him. We're bringing back the franchise in a big way! Oh by the way, its gonna be on our handheld system."

We want a next gen zelda, they show one with awesome graphics and then they give us Twilight Princess. "Oh but hes older and more mature!" No man, Its still a gamecube game on the Wii, and so is Skyward sword. A gamecube game on the wii, YEARS after the death of the gamecube. No voice acting, or textures, its pathetic. *sigh* That new Zelda Wii-u target footage is not real either, lets not kid ourselves here. We want a next gen 3d mario (a la mario 64) but they give us like 4 "new super mario bros." games, which is a joke because there is not one new aspect to those games that makes them any better than any other side-scrolling mario game. Four characters huh, thats cool. Oh, two of them are toad? WTF? Its bullshit. Game would be a million times better if they replaced one of the Toads with the Princess, so you have the same roster from Mario Bros. 2 - but naaaaaah... fuck common sense. Galaxy was dope, then they made Galaxy 2... which had the same design aesthetic. LAZY. Space twice? Really? I still don't even know how Mario got to space. (i will try not to complain about Galaxy too much because it is probably the only good thing to come out of Nintendo in the last few years. But got damn.)

So now, Pokemon. We got a console pokemon game twice for 64 and the first one was a game where you fucking take pictures of fucking pokemon. The second one, Pokemon Stadium, had potential, but Nintendo always falls short of delivering what people will call a classic because they are fucking stupid assholes. It just makes me mad when I see Reggies face because I know hes just gonna try and PR spin a bunch of bullshit that I don't give a fuck about. And now that the Wii-U is essentially a big DS with a serviceable online community, there is no excuse to not have a REAL pokemon console game. NO EXCUSE. Do the right thing Nintendo.

PS these new pokemon look like shit. I know its for kids but man do they look awful. They wouldn't look out of place AT ALL if you put a diaper on them.

Big rant, but these things needed to be said.
