No Tombs to Be Found In This Debut Tomb Raider Trailer

This Trailer is really epic!

I've gotta say that's a really exciting trailer.

Between this trailer and the stuff shown at Microsoft, I am super duper down with this new direction. It has me wanting to play a Tomb Raider game for the first time since the first one.

I have never had any interested in tomb raider games.
This trailer (and granted it's basically just a 3 minute teaser with no gameplay), is awesome. The kind of tone they are setting with this trailer is great, and frankly there isn't another game with the kind of mood and setting that this trailer seemed to imply.
Whether the actual game will reflect that at all by the time it get's released remains to be seen.

My only complaint is having to wait til 2012. 

If this game sucks they should just stop making Tomb Raider games period.

No, they are both different takes on the same source: Indiana Jones, which in turn was inspired by Allan Quatermain - who was partially based on Frederick Selous.

Love the direction this teaser implies the game is going. Nathan Drake may actually have some competition!?

This is going to be way awesome than the previous Tomb Raider games, glad she's getting rebooted.

This games looks great. I've been playing this franchise for years but this is the first time in ages i'm genuinely excited about it.

Woah! I've never been interested in the TR games but now, my interest has peaked. Looks awesome.

The Wikipedia page says:
"Sections of the island are restricted to the player until Lara is able to perform specific physical abilities achieved via a 'skill system', or obtained the necessary equipment to advance."
Sounds like Arkham Asylum / Metroidvania style exploration.

I dont know why people bring Uncharted into this. Uncharted is a 3rd person shooter - action game. The emphasis on the shooting in those games is pretty big. This trailer clearly shows that il'll be "do with what you find and survive" kind of vibe.

Oh, Lara. She was storing her real personality in those huge breasts all this time.

This looks awesome, I want Tomb Raider to be this! It's totally just Uncharted, but then again, Uncharted is just Tomb Raider :P

Color me intrigued. I'll be interested in more of this game. If it's like more Uncharted I'm kind of okay with that. There are way worse games they could be "borrowing" from.

I can't wait to see how many ways you can kill her.

Looks promising. The voice reminds me a hell of a lot of the Monumental in Demon's Souls.

@Kato: No. We're only a year or two away from "next-gen". They will be, at most, as powerful as a 2011 PC. It will not be CGI quality. The Witcher 2 on maximum is a better example of how next-gen is likely to look.

I have really high hopes for this game. Can't wait to see more!

Agreed with this. One just has to look at Blizzard's cinematics. Was just about to mention Blizzard, gone are the times of Japanese design being above all else, talent is internationally shared.

It's true but really...Tomb Raider was like Uncharted before Uncharted existed.

Yeah, saying that Uncharted is just ripping off Tomb Raider is like saying Warhammer rips off Warcraft.

But Uncharted was never particularly like Tomb Raider, or vice versa, this seemed to be.  At the start at least. As I said, shit hooked me by the end.

It's more a tradition of the genre, even the very first games in that genre, back when it was 2D, where like that, see Prince of Persia or Another World. You get chopped in half by traps, pierced by stakes, etc. The standard way to die in Another World is by a laser shoot that blows the flesh of your bones.

Brutal deaths have been around in gaming for god knows how long; you've definitely got a point there. What is more seldom seem, however; is the same level of visceral pain done to the character while they're still alive, and their reactions to it. There's been a few games that have tried to really show the consequences of being wounded; like "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater", which had you cutting out bullets, sowing cuts, and attempting to push a joint back into it's socket. "MGS" was pretty much the only game to pull it off well, but others like" Alone in the Dark" (The not so brilliant remake) and (the very brilliant) "Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth" tried, as well. I remember quite how gruesome it was to go into the character menu, look at your character after having been damaged (who you otherwise only saw from first-person view) to find that a bone was literally sticking out of my character's leg, and that he had gotten half his jawn blown off. (Not so surprising, this explained why he didn't walk all that fast and kept losing health).

In this next game, we're going to see little Lara break bones, have her arm completely torn up, suffer a stomach wound; all while still alive, and thanks to the technology, we'll see the tears flowing down her face, grimacing.. And probably screaming in a really girly-voice. You don't see this often in gaming, most developers try to go around women (and children, damn you Fallout 3) dying in any gruesome way. Even God of War 3 took obvious steps around it; where the only two female gods Kratos comes across, he either bangs or simply breaks the others neck. It's a pretty bold approach, one I'm liking; but I'll gladly admit that I think I'll be cringing a bit from time to time.

The only Tomb Raider game I've ever played was Tomb Raider Legend.  I enjoyed it, but wasn't very impressed with it.  This, however looks amazing so far.  Great CGI Trailer, too.  It's going to be a long wait for it, though.

I was totally expecting HER to get her shit together and escape death, not the hand of an elderly gentleman to save her.

Edit: Also, anyone else getting the feeling they're marketing this game to the BDSM fan-base? Young, pretty girl, barely clad, getting hurt and abused in every which way. It does seem a bit sadistic. Especially when you consider the posh, tenor voice crying out every few seconds in pain.

People used to compare drake with TR, I think after this game is going to be the other way around.

I could really go for a new TR game right about now. I'm definitely keeping my eye on this one. Make it happen CD!

Well, I mean, it's not gameplay so I can't really judge it, but the spirit of it all seems really cool. I think I'm going to go play Uncharted 2 now.

So it looks to be, the crafting of system of dead rising, the platforming of TR, and survival elements.
Even from what little we've seen, it looks like they have the right direction, art, theme, tone and time to make it. I'm still loyal, best of luck CD!

Wrong. I love to see characters pushed to their limits. Often that means physically. Someone getting beaten within inches of their life and having to fight to survive makes for a great story.

That is one HARD as fuck looking Lara Croft. I haven't played a tomb raider game since 1997, but I am compelled to check this out.
