We've had the story details for a while. It's even shown in trailer PV#2 where it shows you exactly when the game takes place in relation to the P3 and P4 timelines.

Persona Q takes place during the events of Persona 3 and Persona 4. In Persona 3, it takes place when the school festival has been cancelled. In Persona 4, it takes place during the last day of the school festival.

Persona Q takes place at the same times those games take place, and that is fact. This is why I say if the game is meant to be "canon", it will involve massive memory loss at the end or else Persona 3, Persona 4 and Persona 4 Arena will not work in terms of storyline at all.

OK. That explains a lot. I haven't been keep up with the story of this game too much. I've been trying to not spoil too much for myself.

Q is Japanglish for "cute," it's a type of anime art style that makes everyone look like cute kids, similar to "super deformed."

As for them choosing that art style because the game's on a Nintendo platform. Maybe, but I doubt it. SMTIV was also a 3DS exclusive, and that game was most definitely not cutesy.
