Wait, so it is the Animatrix and Asura as SF4 DLC, or is it really Ryu and Akuma in Asura's Wrath? WTF is going on here?

Dunno about the anime stuff, but Ryu and Akuma are definitely Asura's Wrath DLC. It was announced a while ago.

If you got here via Brad Shoemaker's Twitter Post- there is something about this game and this video that seems to feel right I was going "Whaaat?" when the Street Fighter stuff showed up again- but for some reason, this was not a What in the world are you charging more money for this for? It was a What? that is totally insane and somehow makes sense.

There could be a couple of things to this- like the anime style and the ridiculum overall. It could be the fact that I haven't purchased this game- which I'm not sure a lot of you who have posted have either. Neither have I watched videos of someone playing through online. Though I may never play this game- or watch it- I respect there willingness to go all the way with the concept- and to release a Teen rated over the top action game in a world that seemed to walk away from that space a long time ago- and not mess up enough that people won't give it a second glance.

Do I think they should charge for this complete ending? I'm not entirely sure really- whatever the practical or business sensibility would say. But I don't think that this should be put on the growing burn heap of the DLC apocalypse. This is an original and inventive title being published by the studio that has been struggling so hard with those two concepts and will continue to struggle for a while. I'd be glad if this project at least made it into the black on its own power before it becomes relegated to the discount bins of death.

I hope this trend of dlc being a way to distribute a "new" or "true" ending doesn't take off.

I read through the full comments. It really does sound like the majority who own the game - post here - and have played through it- are not terribly bothered by this. Is that incorrect? Correct me if it is incorrect.

I won't ask for an explanation- but I would probably say that might be a reason to take a breath- and not immediately try to slit the game's throat if you don't own the game. Otherwise- we end up with another round of Mass Effect 3 like ridiculum- not necessarily in literal form or comparison- but in lack of productivity.

If you've actually played through the game (Which I just did), you wouldn't be complaining about this DLC. I'm stoked as hell about it to be honest!

Asura's Wrath was a finished game in itself, this is just gravy upon gravy actually.

Comparing this with Mass Effect 3 is completely wrong

I've never seen DLC that actually puts me off buying the full game until this. Was going to drop into Asura's Wrath once the price dropped below 50% but now, I might wait for the inevitable 'Complete' edition.

At least with games like Skyrim/ME/Fallout, I feel as though I already got my money's worth with their huge campaign, but, this 5 hour game? Not so much.

EDIT: Ending DLC is not a huge issue for me as long as it's free (as the ME3 stuff is rumoured to be). Charging for it though? That's a great way to make the consumer feel short-changed. At least TV shows have as accustomed to waiting until the next season for a conclusion, video games not so much.

Personally I'm not bothered at all. There's just so much craziness squeezed into the 6-7 hours of the game I was more than happy with what I got out of it. It's dense! Considering the that this DLC is 4 chapters and what a chapter was in the game, it seems like good value.

I'm not ecstatic about buying DLC, but such a niche game like this and the episodic nature of it makes this a lot easier to swallow than whatever Bioware manages to shit out for ME3 or the Epilogue DLC for Prince Of Persia 2008.

I'm slightly confused... So some of those "episodes" are just straight animated shorts that count as chapters while others will be actual playable levels?

The animated ones will also have QTEs.

I usually don't complain about DLC but this is how this should have been handled.

Asura's Wrath already have a clear anime episodic vibe in place. It's perfect for this kind of extra DLC episodes. What they did wrong was to not inform us in andvance that this story would continue in DLC format. I would not be as sour if they said it up front. I'm not the person that complains about first day DLC or "it should have been i the disc" crap. But since this game "forced" me to play it in certain way to see the true ending that clearly was an even bigger cliffhanger then it just feels wrong. The "true" ending was not the true ending? So now this DLC is the really true ending? it's like Persona 4 except Capcom want's you to pay before you can access it.

If they havd told me that they would expand the story throught DLC (I would have welcomed 4-6 extra episodes since the format is perfect for this, just as Alan Wake) then it's my choice to do so when the game arrives but now I can't help but feel a bit cheated. Or they could have let the episodes patch some holes in the story instead of give us a new ending.

It's kind of the same thing as with Cat Woman. If Warner had told me already at E3 that Cat Woman would be a DLC/online pass character then I and many more would not have felt kind of tricked.

It's a real catch 22 because if they had told us up front many would have demanded that this content should have been on the disc on day one so I understand why they hesitate to say anything. Tricky business.

They worst part? I really want to play that DLC -_-

The price doesn't seem bad relatively speaking, but touting that the "true ending" lies in this DLC is really wrong. I'm of the opinion that DLC should be about side adventures, not stuff that's key to the main game.

The Ryu Akuma episodes? Perfect example of DLC. It's nonessential yet goofy and appealing.

The main plot of the game wraps up nicely in the episodes on the disc. There's not even any foreshadowing about what happens at the end of the true ending chapter; it just happens. This isn't a case of them locking the ending behind DLC because the main game already has one. Did they pique your interest in order to drive DLC sales? Uh, yeah, they sure did but you can totally walk away from the original chapters satisfied.

Maybe you are right. I should have said that the combat design is mediocre. There is just a few enemies in the game, small and big. You mash buttons to kill the small and you have to dodge a bit with the big. You can tell a quite a bit by looking at a game, especially if you watch the whole game. Maybe it feels great, I can't really say, but at least Brad didn't think so.

The fighting is really just something you button-mash your way through between big action sequences, with the exception of a couple of annoyingly tricky bosses who do a ton of damage and can knock you out of your attacks and generally just obliterate you.

@cannonballBAM: Troll failed :

1.) Bioware had an ending to Mass Effect 3...just most people don't like it.

2.) Bioware has not reported that they are going to charge for any update, change, or addition to the current ending.

3.) Your statement regarding "paying for the beginning to the game" is stupid, pointless, and without merit.

The fact you immediately were offended helps me believe I touched a nerve with Mass Effect. There was an ending for Asura's Wrath, also the DLC was announced before the game was released. I didn't mean to make you spill your chocolate milk when you were typing out your Mass Effect fan fiction novel. Please, continue.

This is pretty disgusting. Leave it to Capcom to make the best and worst DLC imaginable. The Ryu and Akuma stuff is cool, but the "real ending" stuff has to stop.

If this keeps up, every game will have a horrible Halo 2 cliffhanger ending, except worse, because instead of waiting for the sequel, we'll have to shell out for content they're hiding away on the disc to begin with.

Combat is fine as long as you adjust the difficulty that lends you a challenge.
I don't expect to start a God of War game on Easy or Normal for them to give me any chellenge. I won't learn anything that way, it will be easy and I won't be punished for my mistakes.
This game is somewhat easy. I played it through on hard and it made sense. There are deliberate delays in your attacks, strong punch disables your countering but gives you few frames of invincebility.

I personally don't think combat is as bad as people make it out to be. It's not the most complicated but it does provide a challenge.

@cannonballBAM: No, the specific DLC of the "true ending" was not announced. I played, and beat, the game and also beat the "hidden ending" the game had. Both sucked and both were not even an ending and ended on a cliffhanger that did not resolve the story arc of the first game: saving your daughter.

I understand you are upset someone called you out, but don't be an ass now. Obviously you don't like it when people call you on your bullshit. Responding to you quickly has nothing to with my in progress Mass Effect fan fic or my Hanar pocket vagina.

Exactly what I was thinking as well. No way I'm spending $6 on the ending to a story, especially since this entire game is nothing but pressing A and watching things go crazy-go-nuts...

Now you just reminded me that I'm probably going to have to pay $10 for DLC to get the real ending to Mass Effect 3...

THIS IS A HORRIBLE TREND!

Yeah, wow, I figured Asura's Wrath was a weird fanservice by Capcom and not a disgusting bit of business to add to the pile. Goddammit, guys.

And just when I was ready to try Asura's Wrath at a cheaper price, Capcom once again tells me to wait for the inevitable Asura's Wrath: Angrier Edition. If they're going to charge for endings like this, the game needs to be cheaper at launch.

Maybe they will come out w/a version of Asuras Wrath that you just watch. I'd buy it and put it next to my only other anime, Akira.

You know what, I might actually play this game, since that won't happen. The graphics look like they rock, and the theme seems intense.
