Awww I hope I can wait for this game, I have exactly 1280 points left, and 0 monies until october and Trials HD is luring me slowly in, I don't want to buy it because I know i'll only enjoy the earlier easier levels, just hope I can hold out until next week.

I didn't know Shadow Complex was based on a book.

@The_A_Drain: I hate having 1000 points.
Posted by Heartagram

This seems like it could be one of the better XBLA  titles released this year

Posted by CodeMcK

Does that mean that we can look forward to more Shadow Complex as he writes more in the series? Cause by the way this game looks I'm definately gonna want more.
Posted by masterken

what i really wanted him to say was: "This is much better than that Advent Rising shit."

Posted by Mimakos

decent way to advertise both the book and game..pretty subtle..well done!hope the game goes well

Posted by SubwayD

Huh? Really?
Well, consider my enthusiasm stifled. I'd rather not support anything that has been worked on by an outspoken homophobe.

Posted by HT101

Great interview and I really should read some of his books, which I have never done.  I got a 1600 point card earlier this week so I would have enough points for this game.

Posted by Blood_for_the_blood_God

i think the use of the word "synergy" has never sounded less shady and marketing PR driven than when it came from OSC

0:28, he says "what the *first* game looks like" :o

Orson Scott Card is amazing, one of the best authors out there. Can't wait until next week.

Posted by W0lfbl1tzers

I love his work. I might stop being cheap and pick up a 360 for it. It sounds stupid but it is just the tipping point because there are other games i want to play as well. Here is to hoping we will get a "Ender's Game" game. Maybe even a remake or sequel to Advent Rising.

Posted by ArbitraryWater

I don't really like the books Orson Scott Card writes, but Shadow Complex looks good enough that I don't care.

Posted by ahoodedfigure

I'm not a Card fan, and I never quite understood why the god-like genius kids and bouncing around in zero-G was so fascinating for everyone--  it was a long walk to that ending.   Not sure why people want this to be a game or a movie...  maybe the actual ending sequence?  That I could see working, at least.

This game looks interesting, but if it gets as stridently political and monotonic as the book does, I'm not sure I could stomach it.

He was referring to Advent Rising, the other game he was involved with.  I recall it being reported that he was working with someone to make games like this based on his work.  I remember something about an Ender's Game multiplayer game based on the zero-g training.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion, just like he is entitled to his.

Well, Ender's Game is one of my favorite science fiction novels of all time. As for Shadow Complex, hopefully it's as good as it looks.

Posted by Cloneslayer

can't wait for this game!

Dude is super homophobic. It's true. I read up on it. With my eyes.

Posted by mordecaix7

Excitement level has now peaked.  I'll have plenty of time to digest this game next week :)

Probably the only one of those xbox arcade '' summer scorchers'' that i'll be downloadin.

Mormontastic.

Card is rather well spoken here, that's a first.

Empire is a crappy novel, but at least there is an amazing game being born out of it.

Not enough gay-hating in this video...

He seems like such a nice and charming guy in that interview, it's just really strange that he's become known as such a notorious bigot. Oh well, he writes great novels and nobody's perfect... but still. Either way, Shadow Complex looks fantastic, it's an awesome downloadable title for you 360 owners. Enjoy it!

It seems sad that some people might skip this game simply because of this man's personal views on homosexuals.  I was listening to a gaming podcast that made a good point about the whole issue by saying that who knows what awful things game developers that you've supported over the years have done.  I'm sure you've bought games from racists and people who beat their wives, too.  They were just not stupid enough to make their personal opinion, or awful deeds, into public knowledge.

And Card didn't really have anything to do with the development of the game.  The developers just set the game in his fictional world.

I really enjoyed Ender's Game. It's a shame about his personal beliefs, though.

True, however seeing Dude Huge is the gayest non-gay guy I can think of off the top of my head
(not dissing him, he just always reminds me of a couple of gay friends), those two personalities will balance out and we (those of us who care either way) can go out buy the game without having to worry about that particular issue at all.

Who better to promote you game than a homophobic bigot

Posted by Liquid306

Hey, you know, just gotta try and make it "game-able". lol

I hate when i  find out people i thought was cool are dicks :(

Can't wait for the game though :)

Too bad this guy is a prick.

I loved Ender's Game, but pretty much everything else he's written as a follow up was a disappointment. Not on the scale of Robert Jordan style disappointment, but a disappointment none-the-less.

I literally LOL'ed

I do wish this weren't the case, though. I do enjoy his books, I just can't get over the whole "despicable human being" thing.

oh my god, Ender's Game is my fav book of ALL time!

True. He is a tad bit homophobic. Though, I will still buy this game. More so to support Chair for what appears to be a good game.

In truth, it is based on Orson Scott Card's story Empire, but Peter David wrote the game's story. Peter David is best known as a comic book writer-- a good one at that.

screw that homophobic bastard. Science fiction is supposed to help us address the scientific or social problems of the future today. This guy wants to propagate the social ills of discrimination into the future.  Reprehensible.

Also, hes a huge homophobe, but he wrote a book with multiple scenes containing nude six year old boys. Yeah. I think i know what the root of his prejudice is.

Oh no!
Miyamoto hates turtles. Now I can never play Mario again :(

Posted by W0lfbl1tzers
@SpaceInsomniac: That is the only sensible thing anybody has said about him being a homophobe. I know exactly which podcast you heard that on too. I have been a fan of Card for a long time and disagree with him on a lot of points but most of his personal opinions rarely make it into his works of fiction.

This guy is my favorite author, even though I don't agree with his points politically. But as others said, his personal views rarely if ever factor into his work. I think this is the first time I've ever seen him on video too, so thats cool

Awsome. When you write a timeless scifi classic, Im sure people will care.

I am totally into the game, and will be getting it but I have to say Orson Scott Card is one of my biggest disappointments. I stayed up all night reading Ender's Game in one sitting, then the next day went onto the net to find out more about the author of this awesome book I've just read... and it left a very bad taste in my mouth. I'd prefer it if the game was nothing to do with him, to be honest (it still bugs me to realise he wrote the insults in Monkey Island), but I'll get it all the same. It'll just bug me slightly.
Edited by ryanwho

I don't at all understand what a man's personal views have to do with his proffesional work, especially with someone where its not at all present in the work. Do you hate Mel Gibson's Apocolypto for equally asinine reasons?

I have a feeling that social ills and homophobia et al WILL still be problems in the future. Remember, the word "Utopia" actually means "No place."  Not defending Card's beliefs, I'm just saying the "future" won't probably be so much different than the "present," sir.
