Our First New Riddick Game Is Slightly Unexpected

@sor_eddie: Well, I love the Genesis Aladdin and have never played the SNES version. That may be the reason why people even say that, since that era was so divisive that I'd bet quite a few kids growing up only had one or the other system. Also, the game wasn't as bad as some stinkers of the era and the positives stood out that much more because of that.

At first I thought, "Yes! Mark of the Ninja starring Riddick!" but things went down hill after the slap/hit sound effect.

If actually we get a new proper riddick adventure from the old Starbreeze team, I'd be overjoyed. Let's hope they don't dumb it down though, I can sense strong potential for them to make a sub-par, simplistic Uncharted-clone in the Riddick universe, which would be disappointing.

Really, they don't have to modernize the format from Butcher Bay/Dark Athena at all. Just give us a new location that's as cool and believable as Butcher Bay or the Athena and another 10-hour campaign of similarly multifaceted, relatively unforgiving gameplay.

The "available on the App Store" logo was the kicker at the end. I let out an audible "nahhh" when I saw that.

This is a mobile game. That explains, though I honestly do not know the ceiling of mobile games in potential. And for ppl. bringing up Butcher Bay, I agree. Not so much for Dark Athena. Nor am I a Riddick fan per se.

But boy do we have drop ships pre-designed for a number of universes.

It's a prequel to Pitch Black and Riddick isn't the only recurring character. Also, since the movie came first all the Riddick games (in that universe) are based on it.

I saw the Klei-style visuals, thinking this could be interesting. Too bad. It could still be okay, but I doubt it's something I wish I had an iPhone for.

I thought by the look of the intro it was going to be a Mark of the Ninja/Shank mashup. But hey whatever, most mobile games aren't worth playing and this doesn't look like this will change that.

@noelveiga: What? The Genesis version of Aladdin is actually pretty bad. Like it looks great, but everything else about it is mediocre. The hit detection on the sword is awful, objects rotate between between solid foreground objects and cosmetic foreground objects you can walk behind without any reason or indication, etc

I would play a tight playing desktop version of this with better visuals for sure, butcher bay engine and even levels in 3rd person would be cool at a low price, not on a phone though.

At first i was thinking oh its Mark of the Ninja with Riddick, which i would totally play, but then the mediocrity started, and i puked. So thanks for that Patrick.

@noelveiga : SNES Aladdin is so much better that I have no idea why people cling to the Genesis version. Sure, it had better animation and music but the platforming in it was kinda garbage and the camera was a disaster. I played both versions recently and didn't bother completing the Genesis one.
