Ugh who even PLAYED as Soldier? Even the tech marine whatever was more fun than playing Soldier. "Yep just gonna play this RPG as the generic FPS class durdurdurudur"

How in the world could people play this RPG that uses third-person shooter combat mechanics as the shooter class! Those people are clearly inferior human beings! I heard that if you play as the Soldier, you don't even get to engage in conversation with NPCs, customize your gear, or even level up! It's like you're not playing an RPG at all!

Soldier was also the most played class by a huge margin, they released statistics. Also, heaven forbid someone have different interests than you! How dare they! Everyone knows they put the other classes in as a joke and there's only one real way to play! Derp derp derp, shut the fuck up.

I played as soldier in ME1 and it was boring so I switched the Adept and beat the game 2-3 loving the combat. In ME2 they really nerfed all adept abilities and my friend who was playing a soldier class was telling me about all the cool abilities he had. Who knows how the classes will play in ME3.

It was okay until you had to ruin it, video.

It's using the European date format, not American.

Like I said, gross.

I really dislike a few things about ME3, and the direction they took the series as a whole.

1) How the original was a genuinely unique sci-fi RPG epic with deep story elements and well developed characters, and with each new installment we move closer to a gears of war/modern warfare "military" game with the sci-fi backdrop while sacrificing a well told over-arching story. Sure you could argue that ME2 was "well-done" in terms of story presentation, but if you look at the story as a whole, its extremely shallow and you could even make the case that it was pointless. ME3 looks no different as everything they have told us about the game is "dur shoot the reapers til they dead". Even the change to the omni-tool to an omni-"blade" shows disrespect to the soul of the franchise, because it doesn't even make logical SENSE. But regardless of the logistics of the device, it shows they are just adding "stuff that people will think is cool" just to make the game more marketable (and as a result, soulless).

(also adding, that of course ME1 had 'issues', but they were 'work-around-able' (?) if you put just a small amount of effort into it. and if you really hated the mako it was for the most part optional.)

2) Origin. Should be enough said, and if you're one of those "WHATS THE PROBLEM WITH ORIGIN?" people, then maybe you should do a little research into why exactly origin is atrocious and needs to be reworked from the ground up before opening your mouth. I'm all for competition against steam, but the reason steam wins and is exponentially growing each year (while EA's loses increase) is because of its QUALITY. Not only that, but the way in which EA removed themselves from steam is just flat-out outrageous. They BLAMED steam and lied about everything they said in order to make them look like the move was justified by some noble cause, when really it's obvious they wanted to make their own digital distribution cash cow which is really all they needed to say.

3) Bioware went from a company I could take seriously to just another brand name owned by EA, and boy does it show. RPG elements went sharply from having genuine depth to being remarkably shallow almost overnight following the success of Dragon Age. The Bioware name is just a stamp to them now to make a game sell more and its disgraceful and misleading. SWTOR was well-done in some area's but overall was a raging disappointment due to its extremely shallow and poorly-developed combat, as well as its cheesy dialogue.

The funny thing is that this game will sell well and will get all kinds of high scores, but in the end EA will still lose money in the long run due to them being completely incompetent.

Vanguard all the way. You get to shoot and blow people away with powers. If you run out of ammo (I never did) you can just spam abilities until you pick up some more ammo.

I like how people act like ME1 was some sort of hardcore RPG. That game had bland, not-very-good third person shooting that was improved immensely in ME2. The powers are used exactly the same way, just with different cooldowns. They didn't violate the "soul" of the franchise. At that point the franchise was ONE GAME. Get over it.

Although my main reason for playing Mass Effect 3 is to enjoy the story, and experience the universe and lore that has been created around it, I am at least curious to see how this works. I'm not expecting anything more than a simple romp, but getting a few friends together and trying to save the galaxy could be entraining. My pre-order is in, at any rate.

@137: Please look through previous comments as it has been pointed out numerous times already that the date in the video is using the common day-month-year format, not month-day-year. So don't worry, ME3 hasn't been delayed.

it a good job the internet has people to warn us and see through the bullshit. i was all ready to preorder ME3 but those 3 points you raised have changed my perception on gaming as a whole.

@EchoEcho: It's more the fact that it's pretty dumb to play a bland-ass class like Soldier in Mass Effect. There's a whole bunch of powers you could be messing with to make combat more varied in interesting, instead of opting for SHOOT DUDES SHOOT DUDES SHOOT DUDES.

Yeah...

And that 70% of people who picked the shooting class go on forums and complain about how much more of a shooter Mass Effect 2 was.

But in regards to the trailer....man.

Hopefully they let you pick Krogan and he has Biotic Charge...that would be incredible.

Bioware shares blame in this as well, of course. You are barely given any context as to what the other classes mean when you play Mass Effect 2.

Imagine if you're new to the ME universe: you're essentially being asked "do you want to have access to every traditional TPS weapon in the game or do you want to play as one of these nebulously defined classes, with skill-names that don't mean anything to you being the only thing that differentiates them?".

If they had just made a couple of tutorial vids that you could see when selecting a class, I'm sure the split would have been a lot more even.

Another way you have to think about playing a Soldier class is this: Haven't you ever wanted that evil or just arrogant mage taken down a peg, just because he's born able to use magic?

Soldiers aren't just herp a derp. The best train their minds and bodies to be the best killers they can be. When you can't rely on fancy gadgets or magic, you rely on good training, tactics, and anything else you can get your hands on to win the day. Storywise, against threats like biotics and the awesome tech powers, a soldier who defeats them isn't just herp a derping around shooting, he's displaying incredible combat prowess by defeating opponents with such natural advantages against him.

It's like the Metal Gear series. Solid Snake is just a soldier, but he's also the best damn soldier able to take on and win against some crazy supernatural opponents.

I honestly don't understand people's complaints about ME2. ME2 had a better climax. It had better DLC. It had better gameplay & it had better characters. Which is why i'm pissed that only the original ME squadmates will be permanent squaddies in ME3 and none of the ME2 characters will. Almost every single character in ME1 (save Liara, Wrex, Garrus) was boring. I also don't get the complaints about RPG elements.

The original ME had a clunky upgrade system at best there was nothing grand about it. ME2 lost nothing speacial. Please PLEASE stop saying ME1 had indepth RPG elements. It never did. The series was always action first RPG second. ME3's weapon customization looks far more indepth than ME1.

I would have liked to see some kind of special co-op missions in this, even if they had simplish objectives like in Alien Swarm

I can imagine different classes would play different roles then. e.g. Engineer used to hack doors and use sentry guns for defense. Vanguard/sentinel taking the primary role of disrupting stationary emplacements, Soldier doing the main damage etc

Which class would be a medic type again?

So, let me get this straight. Claiming that a class is overpowered is "silently cursing Bioware" and telling you, random internet person, to not make a jackass statement is "beating down a girl".

I told YOU man/woman/thing to go screw yourself. Oh, but I guess I should feel bad because you're a gurrrrrl gamr right? You are no better than the immature little XBox live brats that piss their pants every time they hear something that sounds like a female on the mic. Congrats on contributing to setting the females that happen to enjoy games back a few years with your silly mentality.

Once again, go screw yourself.

Maybe you shouldn't use that kind of tone when I said nothing of the sort. Ass. :3

Oh look someone tried to save face by playing the gender card or something...I don't even know what happened here...

It's really a conundrum! I can't assume this Allison person is just some raging troll lashing out at everyone because this guy is the only person she/he responds to but at the same time she is freaking out at the guy for insulting her over "that tone" which seems to have no gender relation...

Troll? or notTroll? you decide. This and much more on tonight's episode of Unsolved Mysteries.

No thanks. I'll admit I've been wishing for multiplayer in Mass Effect since the first one, but not co-op. Maybe it'll surprise me and be a lot of fun, but after the first two entries were so story-focused, I just hope Bioware is focused on delivering a satisfying conclusion to the series.

@Vertrucio: I can't deal with Soilders Herpying Derpying that's why I play as an Engineer , also Biotics is not space magic! (kinda but no) I'ts space pocket science for mass control and not everybody is born with it only Asaris in the ME Universe, but sure soilders know their tactics and how to use a gun but they really don't have any particular skill to solve any other problem on the battlefield that dosn't rely on a weapon.

Meh, I don't know. I'm pretty ice-cold on this multiplayer stuff and continue to be even after this trailer. I'm tired of every game trying to shoe-horn in multiplayer, streamline games into increasing simplicity for "wider audiences," and play more and more like every other game. I'm also tired of feeling like I need to apologize for that. Is it too much to ask for a game to not do what it seems like literally every single other fucking game in existence is doing?

/sigh

Also, count me in with the people baffled at how many players chose the Soldier class. That is always the blandest and least mechanically complex class of any game I can think of. I understand if some people legitimately pick and enjoy Soldier classes, but let's not pretend that most of the general audience that picked it probably didn't pick it for any other reason than "THESE OTHER CLASSES LOOK COMPLICATED, I JUST WANNA SHOOT." I could never imagine playing any game with their equivalent "warrior" classes.

Apathetically: I hope this is good. Singleplayer is what counts though.

Frustrated: Forum trolls should return to their bridges.

Narcissistic-ally: I'm currently playing through ME2 again. I'm having fun.
