This had to be the best Q&A so far. I really don't understand what some of you are complaining about. Well other than Alex raising his snark levels to critical, but that's his thing.

Also totally adorable of that guy making shirts for Vinny/Max.

Can't speak for other people, but I feel the questions often make things so awkward. Like the dude about books. He was apparently looking for some incredible insight, while his question was coming from just the weirdest place. What's wrong with asking:

'I've been playing videogames for most of my life, but at a certain point I kind off stopped because everything felt so similar to me and I wasn't excited for anything. Then 'X' game came along and I really liked it again. Do you think it's a good time to be into games for someone like me and do you see that picking up even more in the future'?

Done. You don't need to say videogames and you are breaking up, you're into books, you feel like you're being tricked and then ask the panel: do you think I'm being tricked? It's just so weird. If allot of these guys just formulate their questions differently, it would be allot better.

Of course, there are still questions in there that make it awkward no matter how it's presented. Like the dude wanting to play a card against humanity hand. Ryan going it was a shit question must've really hit that dude hard, but what else to say? Those questions really suck.

It's kind of a bummer the dudes went in to this kind of pre-hating on the Q&A section, this seemed like the best batch of questions in a long time but also the highest snark level.

Really like how Jeff take most of the questions serious, though poorly phrased sometimes. I feel Alex and Ryan can be a bit too crass. Hope we get to see a panel with Dave and Drew in the future.

I suppose the point is that you wouldn't say 'look at that male over there,' so why say female? It has always struck me as a term you can apply to all animals rather than just humans. From there it follows that it says something about societies idea of the status of women that they are prepared to use a general animal term to describe women but won't use the equlivalent term for men.

Its not a huge deal but it is just another example of how language was developed by men with their concepts and priorities in mind.

I love how the whole gang became like the most kind mother fuckers when that girl asked her question. I swear that them being assholes sometimes, especially Ryan and Alex, is from the lack of women on the team and that they would be much more friendlier in general if there was a female addition. Ive been to an all male school so i know what it does to you.

@zevvion: It's pretty even. On the one hand, yeah, some people don't think out their questions. But also remember, those people aren't paid to talk publicly and not everyone has an innate ability to do so.

Doesn't help that Ryan is just an asshole at every one of these, either.

Yeah, he was kinda harsh and I can see both sides. I understand not everyone talks as easily as the next guy - actually, I'm one of those - but in that case especially: keep the question simple and to the point?

I just don't get the whole story around it. It just often seems like they try too hard.

Despite Alex constantly shouting down the mic I can't think of one funny or interesting thing he said. He mainly just made things awkward. Why does someone that annoying feel the need to speak non-stop, you can tell through a lot of him speaking Patrick is just cringing.

Yeah... I have moved on from this. Kinda. I just look down at the ground and think... yeah. You know, like that feeling you get when you run out of beer. Or it is just something you accept. Like when you read about another terrorist attack in the middle east. Sad but it happens. I think I reached this point when they let him stay on the Game of the Year awards and he was pushing people around. I just sighed after that. So I don't cringe anymore. Just sit there with a little sad look because it is not going to change.

This was hard to watch, with the Cards Against Humanity question guy and breast milk Kickstarter guy causing me to reach for the mouse to close this shit. Managed to stick with it. They should really just shitcan the Q&A portion from now on, or at least pre-screen the questions.

Talking about that eSports question at the end, the team should really watch the Team Liquid documentary. It's all about the players, and explains a lot about what they do and how they do it, with little focus on Starcraft itself. It's super interesting. @patrickklepek@jeff

You're taking the word out of context from what i actually said. If I had said "look at that female in the video" then I might agree it sounded weird. But just using the word itself is not as strange as you people make it out to be.

Also, how in the hell is the word "female" an example of mens priorities? That's the most bizarre thing I've ever heard. By that logic "male" is inappropriate too?

Was the opposite for me, as the Ambassador Program question asker/cannoli ho. I thought out my question perhaps a bit too much beforehand, imagining the idea would bring up a number of topics. But I also honestly thought it through on the mindset of a podcast question.

Then run up to ask it, but realized too late in the question line how the candor/style of

Live panel questions was going and couldn't come up with something better/more in that format in time

@xeirus: I don't know what you said, and I never meant to say you had said anything wrong.

The words female and male are not equivalent with woman and man. Female and male are the sex of any organism, and woman and man the sex of humans. So by calling someone female or a male is in a way removing their humanity from your description of them.

What seems to happen in our language is that female is used way more often as a descriptor for woman than male is for man, and this is another way - like chairman, etc that we show our prejudices through the way we speak.

Don't misunderstand me, this is an academic point rather than anything truly serious (although I am sure some people would disagree with me) but I think it is indicative of how our language shows the bias that can live within our society.

I like how that one guy acknowledged that he was the dude that got booed for asking an endurance run question, and then immediately proceeds to ask about getting into games journalism.

I played it when it came out, thought it was a great game. Didn't think the ending was bad per se, but it lacked clarity. I didn't fully understand what was going on. I also thought the three-way decision was poor.

Played Leviathan later on and finished the game again. Still think it's a great game, the ending is actually pretty good, but the three-now-four-way decision still is kinda lame.

I really think people disliked that ending more than anything because it wasn't clear what was going on. Leviathan cleared that up. I really enjoyed it, but some people, like the dude in this Q&A session, just won't rest until everyone hates the game as much as they do because they didn't understand what was going on.

I know this doesn't count for much, but given that I'm female, I can confidently say that it's not weird at all to hear or say "This game stars a female character," or "The male protagonist has this kind of attitude (as opposed to the female protagonist)," or "The female fanbase" or whatever.

It is, however, kinda weird seeing men have hangups over it. C'mon now, there's nothing wrong with referring to female gamers as female gamers. They are, after all, female gamers.

Maybe it's just me. I do certainly find a difference between a sentence like "The male/female protagonist", and a sentence like "The girl with a question". It just sounds so detatched and weird to say "The female with a question". It sounds like someone is studying us. Just saying.
