Looks fun to play, I never really looked into the first game, but I might give this a shot.

Nice contrast to the bland and brown military shooters coming out year after year.

Totally exciting stuff, I can't wait.

Free to play revolution!

I never actually play Monday Night Combat. I'll be checking out Super Monday Night Combat for sure!

F2P MNC is my cup o' tea.

Posted by emem

I bought MNC, but for some reason I didn't enjoy playing it. And I still wonder if it wouldn't have been better as a first person game. Anyway, nice interview. :)

The genre is called MOBA.

Yes, please. Even on 360, I would pay $10-$15 for it. Of course if it was on PS3, it would be free (and I'd get it on there), since they aren't dicks

@allodude: MOBA is a term created by Riot Games for League of Legends and is probably the most generic of all the terms used.

The first Monday Night Combat is still awesome. The sequel may be the first F2P game I pay money for.

I approve of this game :)

Super Monday Night Combat: Arcade Edition Ver. 2012

F2P is a business model I can get behind. Mostly because I'll know if a game is garbage right away.

Posted by TomA

F2P all the way, unless it's a mostly single player game. You need to do F2p right though. Just look at what League of Legends does and copy them exactly.

Really liking the animation in this game.

The assassin can't assassinate and it takes 3 successive head-shots to put someone down.

Em, there's balance and there's unnecessary nerfs. This sounds like the latter. COuld someone with more experience of the vanilla game explain if this isn't as bad as it sounds. I was quite game for jumping aboard Super, but these changes sound... strange.

Making this F2P after getting into LoL has made this near top of my most anticipated list!

Well as a PS3 owner and notoriou cheapass, I'm delighted by this

I'm also liking Brads slight disshevellment breard going on

They better give something to the people that bough MNC.
THEY BETTER

@GetEveryone: I would say its a good change, One hit kills from MNC was okay because it was so fast paced that you didn't really care. If its going to be more strategic with more survivability these changes are okay.
Posted by McBradders

Really can't wait for this. I've put so much time into both the 360 and PC. Hoping they'll let me into the Beta T___T

Not at all, focusing the game on teamwork and pushing bots along the lanes requires the overall effectiveness of these classes against other players to be reduced. Backstabs and headshots were irritating in MNC.

A lot of companies are making F2P games, I hope this won't mean companies will just switch over to F2P without making the game specifically for it.

@zaglis: If you own the PC version you get...something. They haven't been very specific about it, but they have confirmed that you'll get something. I am guessing classic skins.

It's MOBA, Valve kinda screwed up the naming system for the genre, so MOBA is here to stay.

Which is why it is being used. MOBA is a non-discriminating genre name, much like FPS, RTS, and SRPG. It can be put in the whole RPG or RTS, but it does need it's own specific genre.

I disagree. MOBA is a non-descriptor. Any competitive online game can be classified as MOBA. Action RTS would be a closer descriptor for LoL and the like.

Although that wouldn't fit with this game. Dota or Dota-like or Dota-style have been used many times as genre descriptors in the past so I'll probably just stick with that.

As a fan of the original Monday Night Combat who bought it during the summer of arcade last year for the 360.  I completely will not play this game due to the balance changes that were mentioned during the interview about no more 1 shot kill headshots or no more insta kill backstabs from upgraded assassins, or making it more difficult for one person to kill another in 1v1 combat.

During the original MNC there were moments of discomfort for gamers but it was part of a learning progression in the game.  If you looked carefully you could see the assassins prismatic invisible shade to avoid backstabs and you were just dumb if you went into an open area of the arena head first and not expect to get 1 shot from a sniper hitting you in the head.  These are things you eventually learn to look out for.  I'm sorry but if I have more skill than someone as a tank and kill a gunner who was dumb and got in close range I should be able to that.  The same goes if I go into an open area and a sniper 1 shots me.

That's just how competitive gaming in an action game works.  I'm really fed up with this whole (Oh we have to make everyone's multiplayer experience great philosophy that developers have these days).  Look in a competitive pvp action game, some people live and some die.  You either learn to get better or continue to suck.  Trying to make it where everyone is a "WINNER" is completely fucking stupid and makes games boring.

Don't get me wrong I want a game to be balanced like everyone else, but if I have more skill than someone in a 1v1 fight I should be able to kill them and vice versa.

I do like Monday Night Combat over the traditional DOTA's.

As soon as the guy said they lowered the lethality I died a little inside.
