PAX Prime 2012: The Giant Bomb Panel

I really wish Patrick would just act like himself, he's funniest when he's not trying to be. And his fake laughing throughout this panel is painstakingly obvious. I love Patrick, but he makes me face palm sometimes.

So I was wondering what that was all about too. I ended up finding their panel on twitch.tv and the part he was talking about. Was pretty much iTunes had some "Vote for your favorite gaming podcast" thing and the winner would be featured on the front page or w/e. Roosterteeth won with like 20k votes and Giant bomb came in 3rd with 500 votes and he said what seem jokingly, "Suck it Gerstmann". Which is funny because they didn't even try and came in 3rd, where I'm sure Roosterteeth spammed the hell out of their viewers to vote for them. But whatever, like Jeff said they have better things to do then to push some popularity contest.

Yeah I don't really see those guys seriously calling out anyone at Giant Bomb, they're pretty cool dudes. Giant Bomb is still totally better.

I bet a lot of the reason Vinny was as quiet as he was, was due to bein beat. Dudes got a baby and PAX is always a ton of work for the production dudes. The man can only take so much.

The Q&A was tolerable, but it was pretty bad. Always a mix of guys trying to be funny, guys asking bad questions, and guys who can't get out a coherent question.

I have sympathy for the guy who literally couldn't talk, but I also skip over it on repeat viewings, because it's cringeworthy.

Maybe they should just take actual emails in the future, or let attendees know in advance to bring written questions, so they can bypass the terrible audience interaction and get back to what we care about - listening to these guys be funny and talk about shit.

Or, of course, they could get rid of the segment altogether.

As for me, I'd love to see the return of rarer guests like Jeff Green on the panel. Or even have Will Smith on the panel.

Once again when it gets to Q&A everything goes downhill. Its always filled with people trying to be funny with GB related inside jokes, opinion statements framed as questions (the guy who asked about game violence really just wanted his opinion confirmed), and there is always at least one sad and pathetic guy so wrecked by nerves that they cant even form a coherent statement. They are lucky to get one or two decent questions during the entire thing. All in all the GB crew handled it really well by running with the questions to make them interesting, but next time I think they should take written questions at the beginning on the panel so that when Q&A comes they can choose good questions and streamline the whole process

Are the other panels that @Jeff and @Ryan participated in posted on the web somewhere. I checked paxsite and twitch for Jeff's specifically. Looks like Serpent Theatre wasn't set up for streaming, and paxsite still has all the content structured as if the whole conference is upcoming. I am curious about how they went. I found a panel posted about how NOT to write a video game review over on Critical Path. I can't seem to find this Criticism vs Review panel anywhere though.

Needs more Rorie.

They handled the QA great this time! Even the usual awkward dudes with long, dumb questions ended up pretty entertaining.

I think I've watch the "40 cents" part maybe 100 times

I think the right answer is when you think you will dazzle the crowd and the bomb crew with your extremely witty question/comment, just don't. If you want to ask a question, just don't. But at the same time, do ask your question. Confusing? Yes.... No?

Jeff was ON FIRE the whole time! Great to see such energy. But he kinda had to be, since Brad and Vinny seemed a bit sleepy.. again, great show though. I wouldn´t mind seeing another panel soon.

Brad's already confessed in the past that he (understandably) gets super-nervous when he's part of the focus for such a large crowd. In fact he recently admitted on the bombcast that he had a bit of liquid courage before going on to help him handle it.

As for Vinny, I think he's generally a really mellow kind of guy, so it's probably tough and not quite in his nature to compete against the likes of Ryan & Jeff who are just an absolute fountain of energy.

Oh and of course fucking baller of a panel right here. Undoubtedly one of their best.

Even still Brad dropped a few of my favorite moments in the panel. The input from all of the crew was great. Jeff and Ryan are always going to be the tag-team in these settings though. Not a bad thing, just a different feel when it's just them in a room versus in front of 500 people.

Honestly, whenever anyone asks me who I think the funniest comedians are, I just think of the GB crew in general. Vinny and Jeff have gotten more laughs from me than any SNL alums combined.

Man Q&A is always so rough and uncomfortable. Good panel overall though despite the fact that the guys looked a little worried about how they would fill the time allotted.

The panel this year was fantastic. Giant Bomb is rad.

I don't know about the panel overall at Prime this year. I think there were some great highlights and I'm happy to see my langzone legacy live strong but it seemed just okay. One highlight of past panels that is completely missing is guest presence which is something they could have used here to great effect. I still enjoyed it but it certainly felt like it was missing something. Astronauts and 40 cents, Jeff killed it.

The following day after this panel, I went to the show floor and played some Tribes Ascend. One user was named "I'm on TV" and another "Yolo Swag." Good stuff.

Jeff was on fire. Hilarious panel, I've seen comedian shows not half as funny. Dat 40 cence. On a side note, so awkward when question askers try to be funny and fail miserably >,>

It would be cool if subscribers got the Cards Against Humanity Giant Bomb Edition pack for free... Or at least get a discount...
