Pirates Rule the Seas of Port Royale 3

We mean the fun 17th century "ARRRRR" type pirates. Not those scary modern ones who have AK-47s.

@Winternet: Yeah, that should be more than enough. Not sure how good the tutorial will be in the new game, but hopefully pretty decent.

@BisonHero: Thank you for clarifying that. I was truly riddled on that one. So, read some wiki and watch some youtube vids will be enough?

Guys, should I go and play Port Royale and Port Royale 2 before jumping into PR 3, or should I read some wiki, watch a couple of vids on youtube and I'm good to go?

If that's a serious question, then no, no you should not. The Port Royale series is sort of a sim of the 1700s Caribbean Islands, where you set up pirate ports (or maybe you can make legit ones too? I forget). A lot of it is town building followed by economy and budget-balancing and resource trading, sort of similar to Tropico or Anno 2070 or Anno 1404. There's also a naval combat element. Anyway, you can absolutely skip the previous ones much like you wouldn't have to play all of the Civilization games to get into Civilization V.

Whatever campaign/story modes this game will have probably won't have a very complicated story, and will probably not have much to do with past games.

The game is available digitally in May, just about everywhere. However, the retail release date is September 2012. I guess somewhere people must still be buying physical PC games, and apparently this trailer is aimed at them.

"The CoD of the 17th Century boat sims!"? Would you not assume that's sarcasm?

@raiz265: I don't see the problem. Maybe the XBOX world guys are suggesting that it's the most polished entry in the series or the series' steep learning curve has been improved and the game is easier to learn, hard to master. I for one know the previous games were really hard to get into in the earlier stages.

The COD series is derivative and stagnating at the moment but it still has its positives and I'm sure that is what the writer was implying.

That being said a better phrase to use would have been- 'the most polished entry in the series' etc.

You can tell which parts are probably just part of the opening cinematic for the game -_-

I bet Sid Meier's Pirates! is still more fun.

I honestly stared at the stream & had to sit there for 30 seconds trying to work out what this "CoD" thing was. Then I realised what it was & wanted to kick whoever came up with that tagline in the shin. Because it's really dumb

Oldy worldy pirates were so romantic. They would at least have the courtesy of buggering you in private below decks. Modern pirates are so uncouth.

Port Royale 2 hit me with a lot of info right at the start and kinda turned me off. A little to much text tutorial before you get to do anything. If they can make this more accessible at the start and add complexity over the first few hours of game play I could see myself picking it up.
