After Portal 2 I would not want to be the person in charge of making a game that was anything like it.

Yeah they need to introduce each concept like the multiple Portal 2 trailers. But really, Portal's biggest strength for me was it's world and story... it was the carrot on the stick that kept me going. This just looks like some direct-to-DVD kids movie. I hope Kim Swift does well, but this was pretty underwhelming considering her past.

I like the look of the game but it's hard to get a good sense of how the gameplay really works from this trailer.

This looks terrible. I'm sorry, maybe it's just a bad trailer, but I'm not impressed. It honestly looks like a portal mod. I mean, WTF, there are companion cubes!

this game is really stupid and its sad that she left valve to make it. you'd think she would have come up with something original rather than just make portal for kids (without portals)..
what a sadness.
maybe its a good thing she left though. if this is what she makes on her own without the influence of valve then i guess theyre better off.

Very Portal-esque, but you can at least see the influence of the other games on this new one.  Looks more like an evolution of the ideas of Portal rather than a new IP, but looks neat either way.

I guess it's a rip off of Portal in the same way that Bioshock is a rip off of System Shock 2...
That makes no sense. 
 
1. BioShock looks completely different to System Shock 2, they show no visual simularities and don't really play like each other at all.
 
2. BioShock was created by the same developer that made System Shock 2... (Irrational)
 
So I would say it's quite different.

It gives off a portal vibe more from Portal 2, which had a lot of new gameplay mechanics. She left after Portal 1, so in fairness, this game is pretty different from what she was doing. If anything, this game is probably more like Crysis in that you shift your abilities to other things. You've got the bullet time thing, the super strength thing, etc. It's also got a bit of a Psychonauts aesthentic, in that things are cute, but twisted.

As for your assumption, would they? They went from making Portal 1 to Portal 2. Presumably, they're going to go on to make Portal 3. She already had the recognition for being the lead on one of the most well received games in recent memory, sticking around wasn't going to make that any more impressive. If she was going to leave, that was the time to go and write her own check. Plus, she may have had issues with her coworkers, who can say? She left ultimately because she found something that was better for her, whatever the logic. I got that you were trying to say it was odd and not anything wrong/bad, I was just clarifying how not odd at all it was.

I think a better question to ask is why David Jaffe abandoned ship on God of War in order to go on and make Calling All Cars. That right there is a real mystery.

I will buy as it looks like portal...maybe not day one but i will buy it.. i only hope the dialogue is good otherwise its just a puzzle game which would not be very fun.

They weren't slaves or anything, she struck out on her own after succeeding in hopes of a bigger paycheck, a better title, or more creative control over projects. It happens all the time. Kinda like how the Stamper Bros took off after MS bought Rare.
