I have been waiting for this quick look.

They show just about everything during the quick look that is in the demo.

Wooo two souls worth of Vinny.

Edit: This seems like it could be better as a movie or mini-series. When Vinny isn't really sure what is happening or what to do it takes away from the drama of the story. The whole SWAT action sequence seemed really lame because instead of it being this tense standoff between a desperate girl and a bunch of guys with guns it's this hunt for the interactive dot sequence.

Even if there are multiple ways that the action can play out, if in the end the story has to arrive at the same place one path should make more sense. Like we see Vinny mess up and get kinda ripped up by the dogs, yet moments later the character can scale a rock wall as easily as someone who didn't even see the dog sequence.

I just think that this is actually made worse by being a game.

Creepy Dafoe is creepy...

Caravella, Shoemaker, Defoe and Page all in the same video? A must-see indeed

I didn't like this game. Maybe that will change when Vinny brings humor to the table.

She's only 8 and she's already speaking in deep metaphor. Cage would be proud.

This game looks like a mediocre movie, except a mediocre movie costs £12 not £45

Heh, Vinny says that Aiden doesn't seem like that benevolent of a ghost but he's the one controlling Aiden.

Huh. So Vinny took a completely different path through that stealth sequence than I did. I think this game has more variation on it than people give it credit for.

During the interview, Jodie sounded totally terrified of Aiden in the Quick Look compared to my game where she talked as though Aiden was her buddy. It's made me want to play it again.

Yup. And he also got to the top of the train in a different way than I did (I broke a window and didn't get shot inside the train). Oh, and I woke Jodie up with a different item and got a slightly different cutscene out of it.

I also didn't get mauled by the dogs, so Jodie didn't have a limp while climbing. It seems the game doesn't let you fail outright, but it changes what happens really organically.

Pretty cool stuff. Between this and Fables this month has been good for high profile graphic adventures, I'd say.

I like this game but it definetely has writing issues, like every Cage game does. Still it was probably not the worst idea to have this game already start out in crazy town because his games inevitably end up there anyway (I'm still not sure what to think about the Navajo chapter though).

That being said I'm curious how they'll tie it all together at the end (I'm nearly there) because so far that's where all of Quantic Dream's games went to shit.

So no terrible American accents this time huh?

And yet, in this game he's the main good guy. The bad guy is obviously Leonard Maltin.

I dunno, I think (I don't know how far in I am) so far it's super interesting but also super uneven. I wish the whole game was as good as the homeless section.

I really liked this...uh, hmm...piece of interactive fiction. It's a shame Quantic Dream and Tall Tale are the only Studios putting real money into adventure games. The former more than the latter, obviously. If their were more competition in the space, I would hope their would be a push for better writing seeing as story is so essential too adventure games.

I would also claim that David Cage isn't actually a bad writer. He just needs an editor.

Regarding the "end up soon", that entire scene was a child being a child, while it was an odd choice of words, I'm pretty sure it was just to add to the child-like charm of the scenario. Children always screw up words and sentences. I doubt it was a poor French to English translation.

You racist.

beat this game the other day. Pretty great. Definitely a game where you should play through only once. decisions are pretty subtle and lead to totally different paths.

These games come across much better when being played, having someone else in the room watching and having to explain it to spectators makes them seem super clunky.
I enjoyed Indigo Prophecy but i know if someone was watching me play it would seem like quick time event/simon says the video game.

I've still got to get around to playing Heavy Rain so this can wait.

Looks awesome, I want to play it now.

I'll watch this when I have beaten the game.

I don't think that's true.

Maybe an editor would help but there are fundmental issues with the writing of HR and Fahrenheit (which just went batshit insane at the end and not in a good way). I think Beyond is doing a decent job from what I've played but there are moments where it just makes you laugh unintentionally. There is literally a scene where a charcter is falling to his knees then he looks up at the camera and screams a name. In other moments it tries to deal with serious themes and issues but it's just so lazy and heavy handed that it completely kills the effect it's supposed to have.

Again, I like this game a lot but having also played Walking Dead, Wolf among Us and Last of Us, the writing often just doesn't hold up.

It kinda reminds me of how the new Laura Croft gets beat up a lot.

This game is going to be super divisive, of course. I wasn't really that into it until a few missions in. Once I got to the Navajo chapter (the Homeless chapter is another personal favorite), it really opened up for me. I marathoned it Sunday night and felt quite satisfied with my time spent. The only thing that might bother some is that the story is going to play out how it is written per chapter no matter what. As the player you just choose how easy or horrible those smaller events in Jodie's life play out. The different endings seem to be based solely off of your choices in the last chapter. A minor gripe from me though. I found the story far better than any of Cage's others - this one made sense at least.

@theinnkeeper: I haven't played Beyond yet, but based on IP and HR, I'd say that it's very true that he needs an editor. But there's also so much outright bad writing in his games, that I'd say that he's also a pretty mediocre writer. The last half of IP is maybe the best example, but his use of the unreliable narrator in Heavy Rain is also extremely bad.

This game looks to be a BIG improvement on his other games when it comes to the acting. It also looks fantastic, but for its time, both HR and IP did too (it helps that his games are on rails most of the time).

I really like the way this game looks and the story seems kinda interesting. That said, the gameplay looks really cumbersome and just turns me off from trying it at all.

I agree, I thought the grammatical error fit well with the scene.

Oh man, thought I saw Francis York Morgan at 23:10-ish.

I'd buy this game if they make a PS4 version. Seems like something me and my wife would enjoy.

@vinny: For reference, the interrogation scene at the start was actually "broken" on the timeline. The prologue was the weird 5-second monologue thing that led into it.

I wouldn't say the gameplay is cumbersome it just requires getting use to the style of play if you have never played a Quantic Dream game before, I wouldn't let that put you off though, at least try the demo that way you can get a feel for it before deciding to buy the full game or not.

Posted by LaszloKovacs

Yeah, that English still seems a little bit Quantic.

I dunno, I love how ambitious and crazy Cage's ideas always are, but they tend to come apart a little in execution. If my PS3 hadn't been stolen, I would be trying this out, but I wouldn't expect it to fix the problems Heavy Rain had.
