@DiGiTaL_SiN: Well it's kinda a fallout 3 type game in that it's got vast loot systems and is also a shooter, these elements seem to play well on the pc and the fact that borderlands actually does both elements amazingly well, especially the shooting (shakes fist at ALL action rpg games...) it's appreciated that the pc version is covered here. :) 
 
 
on a side note, why can't games just integrate well with Steam and be done with it? Honestly, it's the closest thing we have on PC to matchmaking and integration between games like Live on the 360 yet no one seems to be happy to actually use steam as well as Valve does on it's own. It's really lame on a lot of levels, I feel like valve should require some sort of integration with the games offered on their service just to help make the games better overall :S

You can make the zoom in a toggle - you just need to actually edit the config files(along with being able to use the mousewheel to scroll quest information). Hopefully they just patch a better option menu soon.

Even if you don't buy the steam version, you can route a shortcut through your steam games menu and get that overlay... if that's your thang

PC games don't translate real well into quick looks when the mouse sensitivity is so high.  I'll take their word for it that it's running smoother, but the framerate of the video doesn't line up well with the speed of your movements, giving the appearance of choppiness.

no the PC version isnt that different.  Lazy bastards didn't optimize the menu's or add any video options.  Multiplayer is done through gamespy and there are still loads of bugs.  They delayed the PC version a week why?  I have no idea.

After some deliberation I decided to go ahead and buy this version of the game ($45 on Steam) since it looked like it was going to be the best version, and it was going to be cheapest if it ended up not being what I was hoping for.
 
A few hours later I see what Jeff is talking about.  While I would like some things different in terms of inventory and menu functionality, along with a storage locker of some sort, it is very addictive.  The one thing I noticed was that using sniper rifles is quite worthwhile, while it was alluded to that they were all but worthless.  I'm now debating if I should roll a new game as the Hunter before i get too far on my Soldier game.
 
All in all it's a great game, even solo, and perhaps i'll give the online a shot this week.

the pc menus are optimized, just not well. click the question marks and the x marks,. they're tiny but they're there. but yeah i feel like this game is as much a console port as call of duty, which is depressing since I expected better.

Well i wanted to get the PC version first, but i got suckered, and was pretty much forced to get the 360 first due the PC delay...
 
Throughout the entire QL i did want to just melee...it's super addictive and of course helpful.
 
Want another Pro Tip!?
 
If you think you're gunna die badly (and i mean badly), leave the closest target to you with little health and let yourself die...then when you fight for your life, you can get an instant second wind on that target, easy, restoring your shield and so on. It sort of comes naturally though, especially if you're lucky, but it is far better than trying to take down some dude who's full health and just ran behind cover.

I'm playing it on the PC with my 360 controller. The only other game I played this way was Fallout 3.

Don't forget that you have either the nvidia control panel to adjust AA, AF, vsync, etc..... that you can adjust. Which works better than in game settings due to it being directly through the driver, unless you are to lazy to open another window and change some settings stick to console then.

Love hearing Brad talk PC hardware, so ignorant. There is no such thing as a "GeForce 265". I know that you don't care Brad but it is a GTX 260 that you guys are using. 
 
I got it through Steam and I personally don't mind the GameSpy I haven't had problems personally but my friends and I know how to use a PC. We just play this with each other anyways cause you can't trust strangers with the loot system.   
 
P.S. it is a PC game you can map all keys to whatever you want, melee on the mouse thumb button here. Love the Logitec G5.

GameSpy, it still exists?! Well let's see if it works out.

And Jeff, people are pissed about Modern Warfare 2 because they ruin communities. The community I was part of wont exist if MW2 gets it way - they could COMBINE both the Matching that you're on about AND dedicated servers so we can get our communities.
But they decide they wont do that, and that's the worst part of it all. There's a golden middle road, yet they wont take it - because it wont give enough $$$ on top of already a fuck load of $$$ because of the PC price increase.

How the f do you make it so when you pick up a new gun it doesn't swap it in for the one you're using?

Is Jeff really unaware that P2P matchmaking is a lagfest with more than 16 players, hence console shooters not having more than that unless the game is using dedicated servers?  PC gamers are used to playing with 30 or more players at once with no real lag and no host-advantage bullshit (e.g. Gears of War shotgun), and we should be very annoyed when that option is removed.

Not to mention what Metal_Mills said about how shitty player matching is for gamers outside the US.  I hate to think this is the case, but it really seems like Jeff thinks that because he gets decent 8 v. 8 games of CoD 4 or Halo 3 on Xbox Live in northern California, then that's the same for the rest of the world and no one could ever want or need anything better.
