rpg maker anyone?

Posted by sagesebas

Thats what rpgs should look like

Got this the other day and highly enjoyed the first 40 minutes or so of Cthulhu that I played. It's like $2.50 for BOTH games on Steam. Ridiculous.

And I've never been a JRPG guy, FWIW.

First!

Even if you would have been first you wouldn't have got the quest.

@Sinful:

haha yeah. I remember Joystiq had an article about "Cthulhu Saves the World: The Super Hyper Enhanced Championship Edition Alpha Diamond DX Plus Alpha FES HD – Premium Enhanced Game of the Year Collector's Edition (without Avatars!)" and looking at the screenshots took me on a nostalgia trip to my half-finished, cliche ridden games. What good times. Totally had the Don Miguel version of 2000 too.

What?
Ryan and Jeff?
Damn I was absolutely 100% sure, that this will be a Vinny QL as soon as I saw it.

I bought both games on Steam for 1,74€ seems like a great deal and the games are definitely worth it

This quick look couldn't come at a better time. I was recently thinking about buying Cthulu Saves the World when browsing through the marketplace, but I was unsure of what to expect.

@CrossTheAtlantic: Yeaah! I was a big RPG Maker kid, though my RPGs were text-heavy, combat-light. In one of them, you played as a skeleton. Also in most of them there was a fourth-wall breaking thing involving a chicken who supposedly wrote all of the game scripts. Nostalgia yay.

The fact that these games made more money in a week on Steam than a year on XBLIG is crazy. Why would anyone ever develop anything for XBLIG at this point?

Posted by ryanwho

When you can't make a legit game, make a parody and pretend all the ghetto assets and the poor gameplay is part of the joke.

Posted by kollay

Oh, fuck.

I asked how Breath of Death VII was on the other QL, and now this snuck up on me.

Probably was on the homepage but still!

Posted by Animasta

it's actually 3 bucks for both!

Posted by beckley205

Why no love for the Canadian RPGs? At least call the comedies CORPGs.

Posted by BlazeHedgehog

Ha, Ryan saying Breath of Death is easy. Just you wait!

Has neat music at least.

Posted by big_jon

The boring fight screens really turns me off of Breath of Death.

Jeff's not wearing underwear.

Are we gonna get a Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden Quick Look? ...or, even better, Endurance Run? :)

Edited by RuneseekerMireille

Wasn't Sara a mage? Why was he just attacking with her for 3 damage? I'm not really one to complain, but still...

Edit: Nevermind, she's a healer...

Posted by CoruptAI125

Yeah I bought both games day one on XBLIG. I would download them on steam but I dont play games on my computer

Posted by gabril

They were both well worth the 3$. I regret nothing.

Almost finished wth Cthulhu Saves the World. Great games!
Old retro feel! Great humor! Great music! (go to the zeboyd games website and download the soundtrack for free)
Some of the most unique rpg's I've played. For 2 euros/3 dollars you get about 10 hours of play from each game!
If you loved the JRPG's in the 8/16 bit era you'll certainly love these games!
Edited by Krystal_Sackful

Pffft. Both pale, PALE in comparison to 'Tales of Game's Presents Chef Boyardee's Barkley, Shut up and Jam Gaiden: Chapter 1 in the Hoopz Barkley SaGa'.

Where did they get the battle music I wonder

Posted by AlisterCat

These games are great and super cheap. A lot of fun.

Posted by dream431ca

The music is spectacular! Finally, some actual RPG music.

Posted by august

I'm gonna make this crab nuts.

Posted by bybeach

You can hit tab and on the menu is chat for a bit of more in-game dialogue.

@mrangryface: They had a composer.

I got to about the 8 minute mark.

2 fantastic throwback rpgs.

The Death of BREATH

Sounds like the music from a fishing game on the PS1.

DEM IS NOT A DUMB NAME FUCK YOU JEFF

Posted by perilator666

Cthulhu is a Great Old One, not a Dark God. Get it right, sheesh.

Posted by theuselessgod

These games are actually really fun and quite short. I own both on Xbox and highly suggest them.

Posted by EDfromRED

I got bought them both for  the XBox from the indie channel, awesome old school, hip & humorous entertainment. Be warned, they are not easy though, be prepared for battles or you'll see the game over screen a lot.
Posted by jorbear

Eff you I'm pooing.

Best insult ever.

Posted by TwoLines

Own both, Cthulhu is way better, but hey, I played all the way through Breath of Death VII, and it was pretty good.
But without doubt Cthulhu is worth paying and playing.

Posted by Nottle

These games sold more in a week on steam than a year and a half as a xbox indie game.

Posted by _Horde

Huh, buying Breath of Death VII on it's own costs as much as the double pack.

Posted by blacklab

Dem, also as in 'Dem Bones'

Posted by Beomoose

I'm suddenly reminded how much I hate 2D RPGS. Being a huge fan of ME and DA and Fallout3 I had nearly convinced myself that I should also like 2D. Well no more! Thanks, Giantbomb.com!

It's actually not possible to buy the games separately. You pay $2.99 and get them both.

Posted by Jasta

The battle music is bouncin'.
