"Early xbox 1 game". So is that a negative or positive because I played an early 'xbox 1' game called Halo and I think that did pretty well. I could be wrong though.

I dont think it's either. Things have just moved on since then.

Weekend content is the best!

Let's do the time warp again.

Yep, Drew nailed it. The RTS/direct unit control hybrid minded me very strongly of Battlezone, unfortunately for this game which has no chance of living up to that ideal. Those games were awesome...

DREW!!!

Posted by Irvandus

A rare Brad and Drew combo!

Posted by Rautapalli

Seems like they brought the terrible vehicle AI from ARMA to this game. Too bad, this would have been a really neat game if the AI actually worked.

Reminds me of Hostile Waters, which is awesome.

Welp, what they did wrong here was quicklook the console version instead of the PC Version.

Drew is great.

The Final Countdown is a fucking awesome movie.

Posted by KDR_11k

So vehicle controls are up/down = forward/back and left/right = turn. How's that wrong? How else do you control a vehicle? The horribly stupid Borderlands method where the vehicle always turns with the camera so you can't aim the turret independently of your vehicle and can only drive straight at whatever is shooting you?

The amount of bad puns in this QL make be as sad as it makes me happy.

Every time Drew does a quick look I learn to love him more and more. Dropping Battlezone on Brad, or how he just casually assumed anyone else in the world watched Carrier. While I did. I love stuff like that. And this game looks fun to me. Yeah, it's not a great game and I understand why Brad was shitting all over it the entire time. But I play Paradox games, I'm using to forgiving a games shortcomings when it has great stuff going for it. This isn't a 50 buck purchase for me, but I'll pick it up during the holiday sale and play it for a good dozen hours or so.

So thanks for the quick look.

@Insectecutor: Yes! This whole video I was thinking of Hostile Waters, a game that got little attention but absolutely rocked. Down to the whole carrier/island setup, and the fact that you can take over vehicles. This game seems like that, only with a bit less personality, and wonkier controls/AI.

Posted by Ramone

The Battleship game actually looks better than this.

Why is the "circle of view" shrinking?

Posted by Tondo

Nice, Sunday quicklook. Also its great to see more Drew this past week !

Posted by Smokey_Earhole

Brad continues to be incredibly spastic with the controls, interface etc. every time he has to explain something. Headache-inducing.

Posted by Bistromath

Yeah, 1998 Battlezone was the shit. Today's games need more hover tanks.

Posted by onarum

Yeah.. maybe if some fucking suit hadn't forced them to put a stupid FPS in there for the COD kiddies (probably what happened) they could've focused on the things that were actually important.

Posted by vanfarley

@fetterdave: I especially like the part where they set up an awesome premise and did absolutely nothing with it. The only thing interesting about it is wondering how Martin Sheen got talked into the most tragically boring movie a year after Apocalypse Now, he must've only read the first 3 pages of the script.

I love weekend updates!

I played the original Carrier Command on my Atari ST and I've been thinking for a while that it could use a modern remake. It was a good game, but very slow to play (no timewarp in that version, you had to sail the carrier in realtime, which could take 10 minutes at least between each island).

I might pick up the PC version on the next Steam sale simply because most of the systems from the first game seem present. And I promised myself I'd get it if they kept the "manta" and "walrus" names of the vehicles from the original.

Drew wins right away for Styx reference and final countdown reference

There are many phrases that make you lose any and all credibility in a discussion. This is one of them.

I was thinking the same. According to Wikipedia the game was inspired by Carrier Command so that would explain a lot. It also featured the voices of Tom Baker (Doctor Who fourth incarnation), Glynis Barber and Paul Darrow (both from Blakes 7) which is a big plus. I keep hoping it will show up on GOG.com but so far it hasn't.

Wall-ruses!

I'm glad to hear Drew talk more regularly about games. He has a very deliberate perspective and different tastes that help round out the overall pool of Quick Looks.

But this is one sloppy bargain-bin-looking game.

Posted by Butler

This is kinda everything I want in a game. Customization of units, direct control, vehicles, tactics. I lurve it all! Just wish it had more technical polish and less idling.

Posted by rebgav

I hope that DICE steal ideas from this game and that Battleship game to put a hybrid RTS campaign in the next Battlefield instead of a boring FPS campaign. Seems like a perfect fit.

Edited by MrKlorox

I was curious about this game, being from Bohemia Interactive, since I recently became a fan of the Arma series. Seems about as dense as I expected, which maybe makes it a poor game for Brad to demo.

So how does this run on PC? Arma2 ran like shit when it came out, even on brand new top of the line systems. But since this is also on 360, surely it can't be that demanding.

edit: Too bad we didn't get to see any actual combat. Just charging into the unknown and dying for lack of preparation. But the AI is as poor as I would have expected from a Bohemia Interactive game.

Drew's bad classic rock puns were great.

This game looks like poop from a butt.

sunday quick look? THANK YOU BASED DREW

Those walruses look like bulkier Makos.

The campaign looks like Fallout 3 to me.

Why is the resolution on the map so low? Why would they let you zoom in so close if you can't even see anything because of all the pixelation?
