Btw for any of you hoping to run this - this has steeper requirements than Crysis (as with a lot of games nowadays, but most people aren't aware).

Posted by Funzzo

I played the RUS version months ago and I liked it. Just picked up the us version off ebay for 10 bucks.  Hope it will run on win7 64bit.

Has lot of good concepts like rolling monsters but it needed lots and lots of polishing which you can't expect from a Russian game.

@Meatsim: racist.

ahahah the barrel roll

Posted by Sarumarine

I love the lack of use of the first aid kit in this game.

"Useless! Useless! Maybe if it was a lightbulb and then we would be talking."

Also, Rolling Zombie dropped you hard. Don't mess with that guy, he knows the combat roll.

Everything on high. It's a P4 3.2ghz, plus an XFX 7900 GT/GTO. I'm thinking it could go a few more rounds with a new graphics card as my 7900 only has 256MB of ram. "
I sincerely doubt that as my 7800GT with Core2Duo e6400 couldn't always get the smoothest framerates in that game, nor could Intel 820D with the 7800GT for that matter and my older P4 overclocked to 3.4ghz certainly never delivered smooth gameplay in STALKER with the DX9 lighting enabled.   Did you go to the ADVANCED menu settings and turn them all up?  I'm betting your view distance was middling and you were running using the DX8.1 lighting setup - which is what STALKER defaults to on p4 based systems.  The DX8.1 lighting model is a lot less demanding and flies like the proverbial off the shovel.  Also, your p4 system is far too slow for most modern games from HL2 : Episode 2 onwards - most of which are multi-core enabled. "
I should mention I have a 19" flat screen CRT monitor, so my resolutions aren't that high 1024/768. STALKER ran better with Float32 installed, but the distance was on high with high textures and everything enabled. HL2: Episode 2 I had to back down a little, but it still looked really good and ran well with HDR turned on and everything on medium to high, but no AA or AF.

More Dave quicklooks. I demand it.

I love how much Ryan hates this game. Hilarious.

I would rent this if there was a console version.

"Get bent!"

Kanji would say that to a crooked gun.

Posted by IceTrey87

That's not a Tommy Gun it's like a PP something.  I wanna say PPSH1 or something but that could be wrong.  Anyway it's a Russian SMG basically their equivalant of our Thompson.
Posted by Delta_Ass

Shouldn't the enemy with the blowtorches actually GIVE you health?

Probably a PPSh-41.

Good quick look.

Everything is better with a PPSh-41.  The other gun looked like an SVT-40, although it seemed a bit off, the mag looked a little big.

I've seen this on clearance at Target for $18, maybe I'll pick it up.

If it wasn't that janky camera, I would definitely be into this.

I came so close to buying Cryostasis so many times during this year but could never bring myself to do it. Still fighting it back...

I have to agree. It's my 2nd favorite firearm (1st is G36K). And Cryostasis looks kinda fun. I jumped when the guy was behind the door, even though everyone knew he was going to be there.

First quick look (out of two) to make me jump today (just watched the Indigo Prophecy QL, when the dude appears in the mirror...oh man).

I tried this game and it's not bad. The first portion of the game however is very slow and boring but it gets interesting later on.

Posted by FoolishChaos

Dave should play PENUMBRA.

Seriously, if you are reading this, look it up. Very similar to this. But no guns in penumbra. :P

That looks very interesting, and unique.

Dave: "...the problem is that it was made in Russia..."

Thanks Dave, you bigot.

Also, so many Wii game reviews have the "...for a Wii game" qualifiers. Funny how now there's a "...for a Russian game" qualifier as well.

lol, looks kinda interesting, but I would not have the patience for that walking speed!

To be fair, there has been an influx of games from the Eastern Bloc, like STALKER and You Are Empty , which (with the latter of the former) have always had great ideas, but were poorly executed. I don't think Dave is implying anything racist, he's just pointing out that Cryostasis shares a lot of qualities as other games from this area.
Posted by parrot_of_adun

Most things were adequately explained sometime in the game.

If they couldn't figure out WHY these things are happening, then they're not paying attention, or can't understand something that isn't screamed at them through a radio and topped off with a "WE'RE OSCAR MIKE!!"

Which version of Float32 exactly?  It remained largely in beta even after being accepted into one of the later STALKER patches.  Float32's performance varied wildly, sometimes increasing IQ and eating frames while at other times eating IQ (such as the shadows completely disappearing at certain angles from the camera) and increasing frames.  re : HL2 EP2 'everything on medium to high' is a rather ambiguous statement as is 'looked really good and ran well', were shaders AND textures on high?  I'm not trying to get into an argument at all, so please don't be offended, I'm just trying to understand how you achieved your level of performance with your current setup.  Certainly, it is true that 1024x768 being a 4:3 (widescreen res'ns drag between 15% to 30% more performance overhead when compared to their 4:3 equivalents) and baseline PC resolution isn't going to be much of drain on your GPU and/or CPU in terms of pixel pushing but the 256MB of GDRAM should've definitely affected your performance on the shader processing side of things.

I couldn't even make it through the demo. Too hard.

I had not booted up HL2 EP2 in a while, so I checked it out. My video card and PC are getting old, but the game ran fine with the settings below. I was getting some graphical anomalies. I started noticing them late last year with certain games.

I was getting 30 to 45 fps with these settings.

Model Detail - High
Water Detail - Reflect All
Texture Detail - Medium
Shadow Detail - High
Shader Detail - High
Color Correction - Enabled
Wait for V Sync - Disabled
AA - 2X
AF - 4X
Motion Blur - Enabled
HDR - Use when available
Field of View - 75.0000

I didn't realize I had AA and AF turned on.

When I first played the game in Oct of 2007, my Video Card was only a year old.

As for Float32 and STALKER, I played it in early 2008, so whatever the newest Float32 was at that time. I downloaded the STLAKER Complete 2009 mod, but the hi rez textures brought my machine to its knees. The Oblivion Lost mod ran great with STALKER on my machine.

The last high end game I ran with high settings was Mass Effect early last year. I just recently put it back on my hard drive, but my machine is getting old and it didn't play as well as it did last year.

Another problem I have now is the fact that newer Nvidia drivers will not work with my old XFX 7900 GT/GTO, so I have to run older drivers.

The Batman: AA demo ran like crap on my machine with everything on low. The one good thing is that older RTS games run well on my machine, Company of Heroes ran great with everything on high, except no AA or AF.

I can still play The Witcher with everything on high, that's all I really care about. Great game.

Man I wish my PC could even remotely handle this game. I know it will never  happen but a console version would be awesome.

I need to get this! It looks very interesting.
