WTF is this garbage!? fucking pretentious art fart non-game oh and of course it's Patrick with the filler content can't wait for some real games to release like A Valley Without Wind 2 and Monaco.

Posted by HedinnWeis

Fun fact: Isaac had a face in the first game. You had to break the camera in the opening cutscene to see it, but he has always had that face. It wasn't new to Dead Space 2.

man this dlc nonsense is just gonna get worse with the new consoles isnt it :(

@mbr2: ehhhh your yapping in the wrong comment section

Posted by Shortbreadtom

@mbr2: What are you talking about?

@Tennmuerti:

Wrong. Space is technically cold but since its a vacuum, the only way heat is lost is through radiation as opposed to Convection, which happens very slowly. Overheating is a very real possibility if you are jumping around and running in a space suit.

I love Giant Bomb, but hearing Brad complaining about some video game's design but then ignoring all of, say, Asura's Wrath's problems makes me kind of ignore the reviews at times.

Bummer.

Let the Dead Space 3 Hate Train begin! Man, micro transactions are gross.

Posted by weegieanawrench

@NTM: I'm pretty much in the same boat as you except for the stories and movies. If you end up liking this game, let me know. After the quick look I'm not really sure how I feel.

Posted by Abendlaender

The game seems pretty okay but man...EA put some gross stuff in this and I don't mean the Necromorphs...

Posted by Sputty

This game has the most space in 2013. Too bad if the rest of the game isn't as good.

Posted by SleepyDoughnut

Man if even IGN gives your blockbuster game a 78 you know you fucked up

Posted by vikingdeath1

"Resolution to this storyline" is Giantbomb code for "The main character DIES"

I haven't played DS3 yet, so I hopefully didn't just spoil myself...

Posted by HedinnWeis

Brad's lack of knowledge about the co-op is very apparent. I don't know whether to be frustrated that he's misrepresenting it or excited that he's yet to experience one of the more awesome aspects of the game.

I'll go with the second because it makes me seem like less of a dick. Seriously, everything I've read of Carver is great. The fact that there is a whole second story that you'll only ever see by playing as Carver online is AWESOME.

Yep., that looks like a game I played. Twice. pass.

You expected it to be an RTS or a Halo game?

The crafting system seems really cool, but nothing else has impressed me from what I have seen.

To the people complaining about all the ammo. PLAY THE GAME ON SURVIVAL. Very limited ammo. No health packs. Enjoy.

Posted by vonFlampanker

I see they licensed Overdesigned Mechanical Menu Generator from the Hard Reset guys.

I'm playing through Dead Space 2 at the moment and this looks decent enough. Online pass and micro-DLC is offputting.

Posted by Efesell

This still seems totally okay.

Posted by Budkin

When's the review going to be published. I trust these guys more than anyone.

Posted by Krystal_Sackful

@HedinnWeis:

But its still Universal ammo.

Posted by bkbroiler

I hate the DLC stuff too, but they get so hung up on it. I wish they would just dismiss it and move on. We're not going to buy that stuff, so don't even spend time on it.

Posted by Brad3000

I don't know why nobody ever seems to mention that most of the original Dead Space team went off to become Sledgehammer games and make MW3. The Visceral that made this game is not really the same company that made 1 & 2.

Posted by handsomeb

So, is dismemberment no longer a big part of the combat? Or is Brad's rocket/shotty just so overpowered that it doesn't matter?

Posted by Colourful_Hippie

Great, now I feel like I was wasted $40 on this. This was probably the last franchise that I cared about from EA. No longer.

Only watched the first 6 minutes until they got to listing all the complaints with the game. Not because I refuse to hear them but I don't want my experience to be tainted by outside negativity- gotta go in clean! I'm sure I'll agree with Brad's issues though- dude is a sensible reviewer. Since I only watched the beginning, I'm glad he pulled a Brad in the first five minutes. Don't wanna miss that!

I'm with you. I just scrubbed through the video and saw a lot of Dead Spacey things going on. I really liked the other two games, and am not a survival horror superfan that carries a torch for that style of gameplay, so I'm not bothered by any modern mechanics they've added in. I'm perfectly happy to form my opinion without any outside praise or trashing.

I dunno Dead Space never seemed like a particularly scary game so I guess I don't mind very much if that aspect is further downplayed?

Would be bummed if all the story stuff does line up with what Brad is saying, but all that can vary tremendously so I'm still interested in seeing for myself.

I know people who tried to play the first game and stopped because they couldn't take the scares. I played through both DS1 and DS2 more than once each and loved them.

I think there are different kinds of scary 'things' in these games.

DS2 was less 'scary' in the most literal sense, which isn't surprizing because at that point you are sort of used to being ambushed by these monsters and you know you can prevail. Issac isn't locked in there with them, they are locked in there with Issac.

The troubling thing with DS3 is that the other types of tension - the unknown, isolation, limited resources - seem to be bleeding away. For example, if you have a co-op partner and universal ammo, then a lot of the "can I afford to use this weapon on these enemies?" type pressure is off and you can just run and gun through the game, without being 'afraid' of what lies ahead.

I don't know....some stuff seems cool but I think all hold off on this one which is kind of sad, because I really enjoyed the previous games.

This should be reinstated by most people, considering I believe DS3 was made a trade-off between casual action fans and horror fans. With survival mode, it should be able to recreate the bits of horror that made the originals so strong in the first place. It's a weird hybrid, yeah, but I'm sure they had their reasons (money).

The DLC is atrocious, but every single game is doing it these days. So, whatever about that. Just don't buy it.

Overall, I expect this to be heralded and viewed as the weakest link in the DS series, but still stronger than most games in the genre.

Crafting looks awesome. Combat still looks awesome. Space looks awesome. This game still looks fine, although obviously I haven't finished it to know if the ending is "satisfying" or not. I'm definitely going to still give this a shot.

You can really see the influence Mass Effect 3's microtransaction system had on this game. Wow-wah-wee-wah.

Edited by Bistromath

From what Brad said about the quality dropping off, now I can at least understand why they aren't putting much effort into the PC version.

They probably had EA riding their ass to push the game out and now everyone loses.

At least space hulk explorin' sounds cool.

Unless I'm mistaken, survival (like all the other one-off modes) only opens up after you beat the game once.

Saw it at the store this morning and I thought "Nehhhhh." The lead up to this game never gave me high hopes. I love the first 2 games so much but I feel like this third one doesn't look as special as they were. I may rent it at some point but I most likely won't be purchasing it. Thank you for the quick look guys. I'm glad I watched this before making a buying decision. Looking forward to Brad's review.

I actually didn't like Dead Space 2 that much. I think it might be because I had my fill with the first Dead Space and didn't really feel like playing more of the same game.

For some games I love sequels, but for Dead Space they should've done something different to keep me interested, instead of using the exact same stuff with a different storyline.

Not getting Dead Space 3 either. The gun creation is cool, but besides that I see nothing I haven't played before.

Posted by Castiel

I really liked Dead Space 2 but I feel like I'm all Dead Spaced out now. A lot of Brads criticism also sounds like stuff I just don't have the patience to sit through.

Posted by Ronald

So, after all of his complaining I'm going to guess it's a 4/5.

Edited by dezvous

Where is everyone getting this? The PC version runs great and looks great. Even has dynamic realtime reflections.

Four hours in with the PC version and loving it so far.

The game is excellent, ignore the horrible PR/demo. Feels very much like a mix of Dead Space 1 and 2.

i played the demo and didn't want to live anymore. but you know what? ten minutes in and this looks like dead space! back on my radar. i just don't understand how there can be such disparity between the demo and this... it's frightening. more frightening than a trip to necromorph-infested space could ever be.

I feel exactly the same. This all looks like something I've experienced twice over.

At least from what I can remember of Dead Space 1, and admittedly only based on standard difficulty, resource management at least wasn't much of a concern. Granted you probably couldn't run into every room guns blaz.. er, torch cutting but there was more than enough to saw off all the limbs you saw.

Now the other stuff would be more concerning, but I haven't seen enough of the game to decide how well the atmosphere holds up.

Posted by mrfluke

so its the ea syndrome where the back half of the game is fucking garbage while the first half is awesome.

way to go ea

Posted by Sarx

Too bad this is not coming to Steam. Origin is really lousy with sales.

Posted by EthanielRain

For me, Dead Space 1 & 2 sit comfortably in the "best games of this generation" pile. Even if 3 doesn't live up to that standard, surely it's flaws aren't so great as to make it a bad game. I'll definitely pick this up...will just lower my expectations a bit :)

Posted by Efesell

You know I'd kind of like to have that gun crafting in a Borderlands.

Posted by MonkfishEsq

Wow I was completely wrong on how Brad would feel about DS3. Maybe it's because he enjoyed DS1&2 so much? I wonder if he'd feel the same way if he'd never played the previous games. DS3 just feels like such a let down from the previous games. Good job in running another franchise into the ground EA!

Couldn't they have just waited a week or 2 to announce this shit?

@galloughs: yea the first was the only good game, everything after that was pure action, no atmosphere or tension. its just another shooter now....
