At 10:07 into the video.... "hey whats up guys, just trying to RECORD A QUICK LOOK HERE NO BIG DEAL GTFO"

Posted by Klei

I've been hearing a lot of nay-saying about this game's voice acting, and really, it doesn't matter to me. My mother tongue isn't English, and I have an accent when I speak it. To me, its pretty obvious that a small company such as Daedalic Entertainment, a bunch of german folks, don't have the thousands of dollars needed to hire super fluent and kick-ass voice actors.

I think the game is pretty funny. Rufus is an ass, and acts and talks like it. That reminds me of the old Lucasarts game.

Is it just me or does the protagonist look like Inspector Gadget?

it's just you. He doesn't look like it. And he surely looks like Guybrush Threepwood a lot more.

Vinny: ...you mean adventure games?
Ryan: ...yeah...yeah I guess that's exactly what I mean.

Ryan Davis' only problem with Adventure Games is the 'Adventure' part.

adventure doesn't have to be stupid

Why does this crap get a quick look and not Orcs Must Die 2?

ryan is very annoying. i like everyone else though. opinionz

Posted by LiquidSwords

I was waiting for the guy to say, "WELL EXCUUUUUUUUUUSE ME, PRINCESS!!!"

Posted by xite

An adventure game based in Megaton? Alright.

Posted by Shtinky

Finally! I've been waiting for Vinny to do a Quick Look of this!

Posted by SrgOwnage

This is such a Brilliant Game and i love it so much. If people are unsure about it i recommend you at least try out the demo.

Posted by Getz

I'm with the guys, the writing and delivery is just not that great. It's not the worst but it almost reads like a child's book.

Posted by wjb

The main character sounds like an obnoxious nerd role-playing instead of a professional voice actor sounding nerdy. Like, that nerd from high school who has zero perspective on how obnoxious they are.

I have a problem with the fact that it is not actually adventure. More like click stuff to get a story. Hard to make clicking stuff awesome or seem adventurous. Just listen to the latest bombcast to get an understanding of how Vinny explains that an adventure game being awesome is just getting "huh." as a reaction.

The main character has crossed the line from witty-wisecracker to annoying doucehole...really glad I waited for the Quicklook before I bought it

Posted by craigymail

Love the look of the game don't think I would like playing it though.

Posted by Ravelle

I remember when Adventure Games didn't have spoken dialogues, Like Leisure Suit Larry.

Posted by Pop

The developers of this also made The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav that came out in june, also last year they put a game out in february and one in may, how the hell are they making them so fast?

Posted by mutha3

The main character's weird, creepy chin-hairs are kind of terrifying.

...Also, god all these characters seem like the most annoying. I'd rather take Nuri the fairy over these guys.

This is why Machinarium is my favorite adventure game. Almost every puzzle is a self contained thing and all the items you will need will be in the same room or close.

Nice. Been keeping my eyes on the game for a few days. Finally some coverage to still my curiosity.

I have to get back to it, but machinerium was in a class by itself. I do not like adventure games, or rather I need to get good at them, but I really liked the appearance and presentation of that that.

I like the art style, but the mains character voice is really annoying and have to agree with vinny the delivery is really flat. I like that little gnomes voice from the other quick look.

"HOT PASTRAMI ON MY COCK."

-Vinny Caravella, 2012

Posted by Vinyl

This main character :/

Posted by Rox360

Aha, the game gives away its German roots. That probably goes a long way to explain why the acting and timing of the lines seems so off. Shame, because that's an extremely important part to get right... But I guess there's not much you can do about it. Static art looks fantastic, though, I'll give it that.

Posted by thebigJ_A

Vinny seems very slightly drunk in this. I love it.

Hot pastrami, indeed.

I'm glad this got a quick look instead of crap like Orcs Must Die 2.

Ya like them apples?

There was exactly one funny thing in the portion of the game shown here, and that was the accidental german subtitle.

This was a big turn-off for me. The main character just seems like an asshole.

Posted by Smokey_Earhole

This looks painfully unfunny, and the voice work, especially on the main character is grating on my nerves.

Posted by Humanity

Looking at this I'm starting to wonder if there are many adventure games where you play a confident, athletic dood instead of the nerdy, pencil neck that goofs up all the time.

Posted by gbrading

The Second Adventure Game Renaissance continues! I look forward to playing this one day soon.

Posted by PhantomGardener

This is probably the unfunniest adventure game I have seen in a long time.

This seems to be a common thing in German games. I'm assuming it's some aspect of German humour (if such a thing exists) that doesn't translate well into English.

Why are people allowed to interrupt them during the quick look? That's fucking rude and it's happened multiple times now. What if one of GB dudes burst into one of GameSpot's live shows and was like "Uh hey, do you have that so-n-so component. We really need it right now. Oh you don't know where it is? Are you sure? Hmmm...you know who else I can ask? "

Go away or wait your turn.

Writing is what makes a good adventure game. This does not have good writing. Also Curse of Monkey Island was made more than a decade ago and looks better by comparison.

To be fair Deponia was originally released here in Germany in January. And keep in mind a company like Telltale develops several games in one year as well, an adventure game engine can be repurposed quickly.

Eugh, that main character's just an ass. Wow.

Yeah, that was weird. Maybe their studio isn't closed off from the rest of the office?

I disagree. I think that is reflective of a very casual atmosphere, which is 90% of GB's charm. If videos start really being produced in a formal atmosphere (where that type of behavior would of course be absolute taboo) I think GB gets a lot worse

Posted by ptys

I think the dialogue's supposed to be off Vinny, it's part of the joke.

If it was one of the GB crew interrupting then maybe. During the Endurance Run you could hear Ryan and Dave pipe in sometimes and that would be funny because they had a comment about what was happening, but I'm not fine with a dude from another company interfering with your content creation because he needs something from you.

I've played 5-ish hours of The Book of Unwritten Tales, and the first puzzle of this Quick Look with the wasabi beans and the sock just seemed like complete nonsense compared to anything so far in that game. Maybe it would have made more sense after examining the surroundings, but I'm skeptical. Good adventure games should make you feel smart after working out a puzzle, and not just lucky that you stumbled across what the developer was thinking.

Anyway, my point is that The Book of Unwritten Tales is pretty good.

Posted by Milkman

I was eating hot wings last night and just started screaming at my dog in German. It was weird for both of us.

Posted by iamthejuggler

I bought this before this quick look. Wish i'd waited. The writing doesn't get much better and the "puzzles" get even more arbitrary. It's like the worst parts of point and click games, but without the charm. It has it's funny moments but they are few and far between which is a real shame, as i love the art and the setting is pretty interesting. I mean, a lot of the dialogue is so bad that i'm left wondering if it's just a very bad translation.

The book of unwritten tales was tons better than this. That had its flaws too, but was a much more enjoyable time.
