Dave, Ryan... AND DAVE?

this is going to be great

Edited by Ventilaator

This is going to be the thing that is going to tell me if I should buy this game or not.
I'm a fan of Bioware and a fan of Baldur's Gate, but everything I've seen of this thing hasn't intrigued me enough yet.

So, now we wait...

EDIT: Where's digital sin??

Posted by AllanIceman

I wonder what this game is really about. Hope this provides answers.

Pull up the console and type /dance!

look at this video sneaking in...

sweet iv been waiting for this one

Hells to the yeahs! I'm looking forward to this game more than Modern Warfare 2, does that make me a bad person?

Dave! Ryan! Dave!(?)

Quick note that there are no spoilers in this QL. We're trying hard not to show story elements from the game. This is also VERY early in the game, you'll notice I only really have 1 other real party member. For you hardcore guys know that the combat strategies become quite more complicated later in the game. We're just consciously trying to save you from spoiling portions of the game for yourself. Accept that as my caveat.

Also our screen in the office crops the image a bit which is why I didn't notice the level up icon on Allistar.

I wonder how the console versions will be?

Posted by klownboots

Boo, at work currently and have class right after. Will have to watch this later tonight. Can't wait though.

Posted by THE_END

Hell yeah!  This is a kick ass game thanks for the Quick Look guys!

@Ventilaator:

kinda in same boat, first hearing about it, i was really eager for it. the more info i get the less interested i get.

shame.
Posted by AllanIceman
@snide: no worries Dave, good info.
Posted by Death_Burnout

Oh...theres that death animation...and there it is again....and again.

Posted by Jeffsekai

yay!!! Gonna watch when I get home

Dave, any way we can get the specs you're running? I'd rather play the PC version, but would like to know how well I could even do so.

Posted by Dustpan

I feel bad that I'm getting this for the Xbox 360 since the PC version interface looks so much better, the interface for the Xbox 360 version just looks crappy. I would get it for the PC if my computer could only run it :/

Posted by OllyOxenFree

I believe in Tower Guard.

Posted by Jimbo

That looks awesome, in both senses.  The flaming barricades / mage looked great from this side of the QL.

My thoughts exactly, they may release a benckmark or demo so you could check it out

Mordechai is a popular biblical name in games...

I'm playing on an Intel Quad 2.66 at home with 4gb of RAM and a nvidia 260 at home. The game runs great. Seems on the whole to run much better than NWN2 even though it shows quite a bit more. I know that game was a bit of a hog.

LOL. Im just here lying down taking a nap during the battle, oh wait did i miss something?

Posted by samcotts

Bleh.

I love Bioware but not digging Dragon Age from what I've seen so far.

Posted by Meltbrain

Oh, wow. Awesome! *watches*

Posted by Fbomb

Wow. IN-TENSE! And now I totally want to play this... except I already have Demon's Souls and Way of the Samurai 3 on their way from Amazon. Plus, watching this, I doubt my dualshock 3 would be able to handle this kind of multi-tasking properly. If I was a PC gamer, I'd be all over this kind of challenge. Looks great. Dave is my favourite QL guy (please do Demon's Souls Dave), but can someone adjust his audio levels? He has that soft-spoken deep voice that gets lost in default audio recording levels. I don't want my subs to handle part of his (and Brad's) voice. I want it to remain mid-range. Please? Pretty Please?

^ Damn I was wrong.  Just finished watching the quick look.......I'm going to pass on this game.  I don't like how you have to constantly pause this game multiiple time during every single battle so you have time to heal your guys.  Too bad they didn't include an interface more similar to WoW where you can keep someone selected and just hit the icon in your action bar to pop off a heal.........unfortunately this quick look shows that you have to pause click the icon in your action bar then drag it up to this character you want to heal then unpause/heal.......this is WAY more time consuming then it should be in my opinion....no thanks I'll pass.  I'll stick with WoW and Oblivion until something better comes along...... thanks for the Quick Look because now I can scratch it off my games to buy list and save 60 bucks.  :)

damn, that some old school RPG right there.

Posted by Seppli

Yes! Done deal!

As always, I will roll an archer/thief. Nothing like plundering dungeons and shooting dragons in the eye with a flame arrow!

Posted by ApertureSilence

Man, this game looks mad hard.

I'm scared.

I'm a little concerned about how the console version is going to play out. I mean, I think it's awesome they made the game like a real PC game and not some pussy console crap, but I can't imagine, doing all these things on a freaking controller.
The game is looking amazing, if it works properbly on consoles, it's going to be GOTY no doubt.
Posted by Darkstar614

Can you not focus fire in this game? I'm surprised someone who plays as many rpgs as Dave wouldn't have all of your dudes attack to same guy.. Lowering the enemies total Damage output as fast as possible is a no-brainer in any rpg. Especially because this game looks like its somewhat challenging.

Posted by StrikerTheLizard

Hey, Mordicai...lookin' a little Lemmy there.

Posted by ajamafalous

Eh, not a fan of pausing in my RPGs.

Posted by Daftasabat

Dragon Age.......<pause>................................................Origins

Posted by Blair

I would say that this Quick Look will influence my purchasing decision.

Posted by THE_END

This Quick Look is awesome......but not the game.   I think this game will get pawned by Demon's Souls future popularity.

Posted by Oni

I wasn't sure on this game but I want it now. It looks great and hard-mother-effing-core. Definitely getting the PC version though, I thought the 360 version at E3 had pretty awkward controls.

Posted by NoXious

Dave - I have yet to hear you say anything about it and I was wondering it since it would make your battles WAY easier.
The yellow "elite" mobs - can they be crowd controlled? WInter's Grasp seemed to freeze the target, so going by the assumption it works - it's a priority to cast that on yellow mobs and not just whiteys?

Is there a way to boost mana regen in combat bar mana potions that you know of? [Now it seems to work alot in the way of spells/day except you have to take into account mana cost and you probably choose lower cost CC's then mass damage single target spells, right?]

And did you figure out the mechanism behind critical hits? Since it's no longer a D20 game, I'd assume percentages that basically work the same way. I couldn't find it in the limited time I had.

Really good job on the Quick Look Dave! And a nice choice of mous... uh character, yea!

You can use hotkeys. I played the quicklook mouseheavy just so you could follow along with what I was doing.

You can. And normally I play with almost all tactics turned off so I can direct control units. However, again... trying to make for better video I trying to keep things a little faster paced. That explains the amount of potion chugging I needed to do.

Fuck yes, I've been waiting for a truely old school CRPG for a while and this looks to seal the deal.

@snide:  Thanks. My processor is only a 2ghz quad core. But having found the recommended spec sheet, I should be fine. Thank you for replying.

Thanks for yet another great quick look :)

I am soooo looking forward to Dragon Age, I need me an old school RPG fix.
Posted by snide
@NoXious: There are mana potions... and well lots of other potions. The crafting mechanic is dead simple. There are also many more restorative spells later in the game, but even with all of that mana management is a really big part of the combat (especially in boss fights).

I like rpgs and all, but nothing compels me to be interested in this. It kinda looks like they took the LoTR films and slapped a coat of slime on it.
