Very rogue-like indeed

This is the best quick look ever!

Seriously? Looks shit.

This game is awesome. Many hours have been wasted.

Can't say no to a good roguelike.

Hello Dave.

Yup... because that's all that matters in a game. How it looks.

It's actually fantastic, brutal, unforgiving, a throwback and a great game.

Yep, its a really really addictive game with tons of replayability. I've already sunk 40 hours into it =P.

It would be nice to get, if my computer can play it.

Also, I'm disappointed that the name of Ryan's guy wasn't Bharfalcon.

Posted by randiolo

is that title card ment to be a rip off of Duke nukem 3d?

Posted by jozzy

Hmm, I like the mechanics. A game like this with a Bastion-like artstyle would be pretty amazing.

Posted by sandwich_adjustment

can not stand this art style FYI

Posted by ChernobylCow

Thanks GiantBomb! I had a nice little video to watch while I ate lunch.  Love the exposure to niche games.

Posted by Ooame

I already got this game because i love roguelikes.

An Athlon 64/Core Duo and a gig of RAM. I'm guessing that if your computer can run the internet, you can run this game.

Fuck yeah, Dave.

I'm not talking about how it looks graphically, the gameplay looks boring to me as well. But hey, that's just me.

Hooray for Dave.

I like the rogue-like game style but have never been a fan of ASCII only graphics (so sue me!), so it's nice to see something with a visual overhaul. I'm not really too keen on the art style of the main character, though. He looks weirdly out-of place. I can't exactly put my finger on what it is about him.

Did Dave say Unix system? #jurassicparkreferenceyo

By the way: You can never turn off perma-death. All unticking that box does is allow you to reload a save if you die. If you don't save, your character is still gone forever.

I think it can be said of a lot of extremely rewarding games that they look boring to play. Dismissing them out of hand is a good way to close yourself off from some of the best experiences in gaming.

@randiolo: It's definitely more The Ultimate Doom than Duke Nukem 3D.
Posted by enemymouse

A few interface tweaks would make this game even better, such as if tooltips showed item vs equipped item comparisons, like most modern loot games do.

But I really enjoy it anyway.

would this play alright on a laptop with an onboard intel chip and 4 gig of ram? processor is 2.1ghz

Posted by gbrading

I like the music. Reminds me of iMuse stuff from the Monkey Island games.

Not for me no thanx....

Rogue-like games are fun, I personally like the chocobo dungeon wii game

So based on the extensiveness of the first patch I expect this will be one of those indie titles that receive excellent and ongoing support and modifications. Unfortunately this means it will be one of those indie titles that I never play as I continue wait for the 'ultimate' version to be done. :p

It looks horribly dull.

From the steampage:
  • Processor: Core 2 Duo/Athlon 64 or above recommended
  • Memory: 1 GB of RAM minimum; 2 GB recommended
Any DirectX-compatible video device with a minimum resolution of 1024 x 600 or 1024 x 768

The Athlon 64 is old, my "Free with a pack of cornflakes"-netbook could run this since it could run Terraria, which is more demanding.

You should be fine.

This video in particular won't load for me, for some reason... : / Will try again later, I guess...

Posted by TekZero
@CosmicQueso: It doesn't quite have the RAM.  And I'm running a P4 here.

Lol, I love making fun of my stupid laptop.

stone soup is betar

ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE

Time is usually a limited resource in a roguelike. In Stone Soup, for example, it's metered through hunger... But you have an unlimited time horizon in Dredmor, making it softcore and for flaccid noobs only.

Monster Zoo! Deth and all 149 of his friends!

I do enjoy games where death (as in dying) has some real consequence rather than starting back at the last checkpoint.

It's not a reference. Rogue was made for Unix systems in the early 80s. Unix is a real thing.

SOLD!

The first time I've ever watched a quick look and immediately bought the game right afterwards.

Posted by Devoid

This reminds me of my Nethack phase, years ago. I remember I fell into a hole or something, and dropped right in the middle of a giant room, full of ridiculously overpowered monsters.

Posted by Addfwyn

I heard a lot of things that kinda pushed me away from this, but this QL actually make me go out to pick it up. $5 earned via a QL for these folks. I enjoy my rogue likes, I like this kinda Kingdom of Loathing-esque humour, and the skill trees seem really cool.

Thank god Dave's around or we'd never see stuff like this. I had difficulty finding content on this game beyond Gaslamp's site and Let's Plays on YouTube.
