this looks fucking great!

one problem though: they made a fighting game

Posted by Aronleon

Well if anything else watching the game fights and style only makes me want it more.

Posted by MetalGearSunny

The character select menu music is fucking perfect.

AH HA! IS THIS OUR CHANCE?

Edited by Arrested_Developer

This is the probably the closest we'll ever get to another Persona Endurance Run.

*Dies inside*

Edit: Oh geeze, just hearing that music is making me all sad and nostalgic.

I'm more attached to Persona 3, so I'm kind of bummed to see so few P3 characters in here. Mitsuru, Aigis and Akihiko are nice, but I'd really like to see Yukari, Shinji and the Protagonist.

What?! Clearly, the only P3 character that should have been included, is Koromaru. And maybe Ken, because his spear style could be pretty cool. It would have been nice to see more P3 character's, but I guess we're lucky that this game exists in the first place, to be honest.

P3 never really stuck with me though. Can't put my finger on why, but I definitely prefer 4. Maybe it was because you social linked more, or at least sooner, with your main team or something. Hard to say.

Koromaru is a good idea, small dog would at least be unique. Also P3 is better because its more epic! :P

Well, with Marvel vs Capcom 3 having the Dog from Okami in it, it would be not-quite-unique but would definitely be more interesting.

I think that P3 is more 'epic', but by that I mean that everything's just on a bigger scale. Now that I think about, I think the character's drilling it into my head that I had to 'save the world' every single month got really tiring to me. One of the last lines of dialogue I remember playing in that game before I quit was 'we saved the world, and no-one will ever know!', which I just hate. That's so cheap. Superman can't save the world every week, sometimes he's got to save Lois Lane.

I've always found saving one person that I at least knew, and in some cases gave a damn about, is way more interesting than saving 'a world' that we only see a small part of.

EU version has already been delayed from end of August to mid September, I hope it won't turn into another Blazblue where we had to wait a full year to see it.

Which is frustrating because it looks great, just hope I get to play it while it's still relevant in the fighting scene.

C'mon TNT! I'll sign up for premium if I have to, just make it happen!

I know Yosuke's voice actor is the same. But it seemed like he was the only one.

Based on the trailers and those gameplay videos they released, everyone but Yosuke sounded different. I find it hard to believe they're the same people.

I assume you're mostly basing your impressions on that one early trailer that was released, but the reason they sounded so off was because they weren't speaking as the characters themselves, but rather over the top caricatures of themselves. Don't worry, they sound much more normal in the actual game.

Posted by gbrading

Chie's voice is different. :( I know they have to do it but still...

Looks fine for a fighting game, but mainly this makes me want a Persona 4 II...

Posted by Predasus

This makes me want to play this game while watching the Persona 4 Endurance Run! Some stupidly hilarious moments in all of those videos! Is it weird to have fond memories on the gaming site you visit ... ?

mitsuru, aigis and akihiko make sense within the story, while those others don't necessarily; Yukari probably wants to forget what happened, Shinji is... well you know, and the protag is also... that.

Junpei would have been nice.

I could get really annoying with stating how much I want this game but instead, I'll just schedule my vacation and walk away.

The real problem with story mode's pacing is that too many character stories follow the same basic beats. You're way better off only playing 6-8 of them rather than all of them.

Sounds almost exactly like P4 to be honest. I haven't seen it myself, but if it is anything like P4 it's not the story beats that makes the story entertaining, it's the characters.

Edited by Draxyle

Okay, fine, I'm putting this on my wishlist. Looks pretty darn cool.

I love how much Jeff, Vinny and Ryan remember from the Endurance run, like it was just yesterday. I've been waiting for this just for the strong connection the franchise has with GB. It was the P4 endurance run that got me to follow GB in the first place, after all.

I'm more okay with the new voiceacters now. I'm still sad about the loss of Teddie, but during battle it's hard to tell the difference. The music is definitely the best thing about it though. I got extremely giddy hearing some P3 tunes pop up on the menu.

I'm almost drowning in the fanservice.

Am I the only one who wants to see them now do an Endurance Run of this 30+ hour long story mode?

*Mutters something about the European release*

I really want to be on board with this game, and rest assured I will buy it for the story content alone, but the later EU release will probably ward me off playing it online. I feel that fighting games, more-so than most other genre's, have the smallest windows for entry.

I'm not saying I expect to hang with the best, but I would have at least liked to have jumped in with all the other novices. For a game that is geared towards being accessible, that delay really undermines that for a section of the audience.

At least they had the decency to explain their reasons behind the delay, not that it makes it any easier to accept.

Posted by Chibithor

@Vorbis: Where'd you hear that? Mid September sounds plausible but I haven't seen anything official other than TBA 2012.

Well your only going to be playing other Europeans, so the whole region will be behind. It would be too laggy to play American and Japan anyway.

but still, HURRY UP WITH EUROPEAN RELEASE!

Next Tuesday needs to be here already.

@biggiedubs: Well, Jojo's Bizzare Adventure, a game which this one parallels in many regards, has a little puppy character in it as well. So in actuality it would be totally un-unique!

Anyway I love being back in this world... if only for for forty four minutes.

This QLEX had me grinning ear to ear for all of it

I agree with the bolded, but it gets really tiring after a while to see the exact same events play out with every character. P4 had a lot of scenes where characters talk in circles...but that's not quite as annoying as literally seeing the same thing happen 10 times.

If you're a huge Persona fan, I reckon its still worth it to go through every story mode. But for most people, I think just sticking with one character from every story perceptive(one guy from the original 4 cast(Yu, really...), one from the P3 guys, Kanji or Teddie, Labrys, Naoto and Liz) leads to a better experience.

I'm all for story in a fighting game, but having so much of it just in text on the screen (albeit with voice acting) doesn't seem the way to do it. Take the actual environments and assets from Persona 3 and 4 and act it out just like it was done in those games. Remember when Charlie ate Yukiko's noodles? REMEMBER THAT?!

Edited by nick_verissimo

@Nux: Agreed!

wish I had the money :( maybe 70 bucks will just land right on my lap :|

@Chibithor: Eurogamer had it slated for August 31st but retailers are now saying it has been pushed back into September.

The problem with that is a lot of the assets used in this game were never in P3 or P4. As much as I would love to see it play out just like the games, that doesn't seem very likely to happen in a fighting game story mode.

@mutha3: Have you played the stories?

Posted by PerfidiousSinn

@mutha3: Oh, I don't just mean the voices during gameplay. I'm talking about those trailers where they showed off the characters moves, and the tutorial videos where they explain the systems of the game, you know?

Those have quite a bit of dialog and they don't sound like the original voice actors to me.

But if the credits actually DO confirm that they're the same people, then I'm even more confused. Maybe they're out of practice for not doing the voices for years? Or maybe the voice acting director is different from P3/P4 so they didn't catch this? I dunno.

My relationship with fighting games will become stronger soon.

No, I watched them. All of them have great character moments and I really enjoyed most of 'em, but it got tiring after a while.

Those tutorial videos aren't very representative of the voices in the game. Check you PMs, I sent your some examples from the game.

The game looks pretty good, wish Jeff and Vinny would commentate whenever I play it. Personal Persona 4 Arena Endurance Runs.

I know people will call me crazy but I wish Persona 5 came out on the PS2 even if I have a PS3. But I know that is almost as crazy as wanting Shenmue 3 on Dreamcast.

Oh ok.

Dammit, Persona 4 just makes me so goddamn happy. Can't wipe a stupid smile off my face while watching this.

Posted by beard_of_zeus

I wasn't sure if I was gonna get this, but this video pushed me over the edge. Like Jeff, the Arc System Works fighters never clicked for me, but a game with such a robust story mode that is also apparently more accessible really appeals to me. Having that connection to the P4 universe really goes a long way too. Looks awesome!

By the way, Aram is a great PR dude as well! Cool to have him on this QL EX.

Honestly who I really really want is Dojima. He's one of the only characters I would pay ridiculous money for. (Even more if he just berates you the whole time.) Considering Nanako is a navi I'll be disappointed if it doesn't happen.

Although Funky Student would be pretty great too.
