Looking forward to checking this out!

The NES game is one of my favourites! Can't wait to see how this is going to go...

Edited by Ak1mbo

Wait wait wait--please explain "easy", "medium", and "hard" again. I'm lost.

Posted by Morningstar

Now this I got to see.

It's nice to see Brad so excited about a game from his childhood

Posted by guanophobic

This guy should've just moved on. I understand you're very proud of your point and click UI, but it just isn't fun to watch you go through in a video like this. The interesting part is obviously around how you've structured your puzzles, show that.

Posted by sub_o

This looks real interesting.

Edited by dshs70

This guy needs to stop talking and explaining absurdly simple stuff and let them play the damned game. It's a waste of a format based around people being entertaining while playing through a game an figuring it out to have a dev give mind-numbing, step-by-step commentary in the driest way possible while Brad and Dan are dead quiet.

Posted by onkel

Now, I'm not old enough to have played the original when it was new, but the problem I see with this modernized remake is that it isn't modernized enough. To me it looks like it still uses mechanics that have been dated for some time and since improved.

Edited by LandHawk

Any love for Shadowgate 64? It was my first adventure game.

Also, everyone has different skillsets, and not everyone is an engaging public speaker. If it were easy for everyone to be entertaining on-screen, people wouldn't get paid for it. That being said, I still burst out laughing at:

I can hit him, and he falls down.

Edited by TheBrokenPinion

this was a really boring quick look, the game looks interesting but should of just played it way too much explaining.

Posted by LegendaryChopChop

So many nightmares with that god damn reaper. I hate it, but I'm so happy to see it back in the game.

Posted by rygar8bit

omg brad you need to go back and play deja vu and the uninvited those are the best of the 3

Posted by markmack

Wow, this looks fantastic! I'm sold!

And keep in mind that he knows the solutions to all the puzzles. Watching him blow through them would accomplish little more than spoiling the game for people.

Edited by PsychoPenguin

Haha Carl Roofels.

Oh man, when the game started I remembered that Shadowgate was one of the first games I owned on the Game Boy color. I recall the interface on that system being not great and I never played that much of it.

It was neat to see the dev go through the original game at the end.

Posted by Ares42

Oh EX quick looks...

Posted by Zevvion

Slow, nothing to level, no combative challenge, no interesting puzzles, dull visuals. I know this is the type of game of a select number of people, but something like this really isn't for me.

Edited by Do_The_Manta_Ray

.. Boy.. That was some quicklook.

I could write paragraphs about what I didn't like, but where's the fun in that? So let's focus on the positive aspects. Game itself looked interesting, and the artstyle was gorgeous.
We don't get a lot of good adventure games these days, and I think that titles like The Walking Dead and Wolf Among Us, while terrific, don't really qualify as such anymore.
I also don't think I'll ever be able to forget about skull with glasses, and maybe the guys will make a quicklook of their own upon it's release.

Yeah, that about covers it. Now I need a beer.

Karl Roelofs seems like a guy who's seen it all

Posted by RazielCuts

I'm getting like a Bob Ross feeling from this guys voice, he's almost like a teacher in the way he's demo-ing this. 'What should happen if I double click the door?' 'You should go through?' 'Yeah, there you go.'

I was thinking this was going to be like that 4 party tile based dungeon game that I'm completely blanking on the name of but it's not, more like as he says, a text adventure but with graphics.

Edited by Evolkimchi

Super nostalgic QL. I'm definitely picking up this reimagining.

If they made a Déjà vu update, my brain would explode

Posted by Khessed

Wow this guy doesn't care about spoiling or implying solutions at all... I'll still play this, Shadowgate is one of my favorite NES games and can't wait to delve back in!

Edited by BatmanBatman

This reminds me how terrible with names I am. Specially when I just met somedoby and they tell me their name... 5 seconds later I have no idea

Posted by Sunjammer

Man, starstruck. I was *obsessed* with Shadowgate on the Mac back in the day.

Posted by K4g4m1

Really nice art in this game. Will probably pick it up.

Posted by AMyggen

Okay, I'll play this game. Remember almost crying with frustration when I tried to play it as a kid who didn't really understand what was going on.

Posted by Karkarov

Reading these comments you can tell the difference between people who actually grew up with the NES and those who didn't. I am glad I backed this on the original kickstarter, looking forward to release. PS: Brad was having lots of fun with it cause he has nostalgia for it, Dan was probably bored out his mind though.

Posted by BatmanBatman

After watching this, it looks like a really cool game that I can get into -- Even though I never touched the original one.

Posted by JackSukeru

I've played the gameboy Shadowgate and I have a bit of fondness for it still so I might pick this up when it's out.

Posted by Mr_Creeper

Hope we get an actual Quick Look of this game once it's out.

I played the original NES version as a kid, probably at the same age Brad did. It was just such an amazing game. Got me into adventure games as well, Lucas Arts games in particular.

Also: DAMN that music tickles me way down in my nostalgia plums. That music is like the real true RPG style of music to me. Excited about the new one.

Posted by cabrit_sans_cor

I will buy this game. Because, from what I can tell, that will bring us all closer to a new Uninvited. Shadowgate is great and all, but FUCK man, Uninvited!

Posted by grumbeld

I can't wait until this is done. I had the old game memorized for a long time. It's also one of the only games that I returned because the first time I bought it, I couldn't solve the first puzzle and returned it, claiming it was broken.

Posted by Drekly

this was a really boring quick look, the game looks interesting but should of just played it way too much explaining.

Posted by kookoo

Wow. I usually skip EX Quick Looks as they feel like sale pitches but this one brought back so many memories.

Posted by monkeystick

I might have missed it but I'd like to see them add an option to mousewheel through the various commands. The interface up top, while a nostalgic throwback, looks a little cluttered.

Posted by VargasPrime

As a dude who grew up on PC adventure games, Shadowgate and Deja Vu hold spots near and dear to my heart, and I absolutely can't wait for this.

Posted by Hassun

That classic Shadowgate death screen is legendary. Fantastic art.

Woah there! There are tons of good adventure games coming out these days! Besides all the Telltale games, companies like Daedalic, Wadjet Eye and Pendulo are putting out some great games in the genre. Not to mention classics like Monkey Island and Broken Sword getting mobile versions on iOS and Android, it's really a great time for adventure games.

I spent so much money calling the Nintendo hotline asking for help with this game. One of my all time favorites.

Posted by BeachThunder

8-bit mode = pixelated filter :|

Also, it's a pity that the new dragon room is far less intense than the NES version. The music in that version just screams 'you're fucked now'.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to playing this, as well as the possible remakes/rereleases of Uninvited/Deja Vu, since I never played them.

Posted by CornBREDX

The funny thing for me is I had a PC before a nintendo and the first Nintendo adventure game I played was Deja Vu. I remember renting it.

I had only heard of this one, but I never played it.

I hope they get to remake Deja Vu. That'd be kinda nuts. Loved that game, though.

Brad's been doing a really good job being the main dude on some of the videos and podcasts. Good job Brad!

Man the original did have some amazing fucking music for back in the day!

Posted by Rodiard

Oh man, I never got very far but I played a ton of Déjà Vu and Uninvited on the Macintosh.

I don't have any nostalgia for this but it looks great.
