Man, Vaas has such a great presence. All his lines, everything I've seen, that guy spits gold.

I think you need to go look at the definition of racism, because I don't think you understand what it means.

I love when people bring up the idea that there's something inherently racist about subjecting a character to a foreign area and because their races reflect each other in a certain way interpret it as racism. I'd find it just as culturally insensitive if middle eastern war games portrayed their 'natives' as white people if only because of how potentially desensitizing it is.

@mak_wikus: It's not. You register it online when you first launch it. It'll never bother you about it if you go offline while playing.

Didn't think I would be interested in an FPS in the Crysis/Far Cry family. But this looks like a fun game. Kind of an Assassins Creed/Just Cause 2/Dead Island mash up.

Posted by Klaimore

That's fucked up Jeff just because your a rich snob doesn't mean you need to be sold to slavery.

Sweet mother of bat-jesus... This looks absolutely magnificent!

There is a smidge of Saints Row: The Third in this game, it feels like. Like Saints Bro.

Posted by Blackout62

@jkizzlemurphy: Damn it. I would play Saint's Bro.

Ubisoft should merge all of its franchises in one big twist.

Abstergo hires Sam Fisher to kill Desmond. Meanwhile FarCry 3 is actually played inside the animus where the protagonist is the ancestor of a third even more secret faction, a faction Lucy was part of, the grand-daughter of FarCry3's main protagonist. And whoever is using the animus in FarCry 3 went to "animate" as Lucy, which is why the vault in AC2 used Desmond to kill her and prevent that third faction, which used to wage war against the ancient before humanity even existed. All those story lines will culminate in the last and final game Ubisoft will ever release, Watch Dogs.

They kept talking about showing sharks but they never got to the sharks! Oh well, all the more reason for me to get this game.

A.I. Comedy should totally be in the Giantbomb wiki entry. Just saying.

"The jungle will teach you how to jump like that!"

I think I'm sold.

Woah... open world game! This looks pretty good. I may have to pick this up at some point on the PS3. I don't think my laptop could run this very well.

In his defense, Ubisoft has basically outright lied about their DRM in the past.

Wow, those characters are exactly like the people you'd see die in a slasher film. And wow, it does look pretty great. Except when his brother threw that nice perfectly into the guys throat? I'm not so sure about that. Is it really considered skinning when what they really do is take the innards? I like that there's a dot sight for the crossbow.

Exactly, and not being able to play the game, because servers are down? They did the same stuff with AC2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction.

The whole point is supposed to be his evolution right? He becomes more desensitized to the violence around him?

Honest question: if the player character was black and the pirates were white, would people still be calling this game racist?

Not trying to make a point, just curious.

Edited by sub_o

I just realized that this game's setting is around South East Asian Malay countries. From the word Rakyat (people), Selemat tengah hari (good day), laba-laba (spider), etc.

The pronunciation are weird, but still pretty exciting to see game sets in place where I can somewhat relate to.

I would like to see the level editor if you guys do another QL.

There needs to be a 2nd quick look purely devoted to killing a shark. I feel cheated.

Right. Because that wouldn't be racist.

I certainly don't get the impression this game is racist though. Then again, I haven't played it. I think the fact that somewhere around 99% of game protagonists are white dudes is a much larger problem.

Yeah, I find it super weird but neat too because Indonesian is my native language. Dennis being a foreigner kinda explains his accent. It seems like the location is based on the Rook Island in Papua New Guinea.

Basically what the fuck.

Weird, they speak maori in this game... Kia ora means Hello!

@HatKing: You are not wrong.

I've never really been sold for an FPS, not even Halo to be frank. But this I want to play! The frame rate's killing me a little. I'm going home for winter break and don't always have access to a good PC... so I may have to settle for the console version.

I don't really see this as racist. Am I missing anything? Granted the game's not gonna get all of Southeast Asia down pat, it's at least trying to create an interesting, playable atmosphere. Is it a matter of the pirates being non-white?

This reminds me of what it would be like if the West tried to make a STALKER game.

Looks great so far. Also seems to have borrowed a lot from RDR, but I think that stuff fits pretty well so it doesn't bother me.

Can't wait for it to unlock on Steam, I've got it preloaded and everything.

well you could say that's more racist towards white people in that white people aren't going to hang out with people of other races.

This game looks super cool, but the whole world aesthetic/on screen hud layout reminds me of Dead Island. I hope it's not as glitchy as Techland's product, but if it is as glitchy in awesome ways as Dead Island is. Will for sure pick this one up eventually.

It doesn't seem like a "Far Cry" that this game will be good.-----I'm sorry.I couldn't help it.

Posted by Jack_Lafayette

Well, the way the game's lead writer explains the intro makes it seem like he knows where Jeff and Vinny are coming from.

Posted by AssInAss

@Kraznor said:

I agree on some level with Jeff, this seems really dumb, but I'm not sure I can get past that and enjoy it. I also can't seem to enjoy games that blatantly incentivize killing without a hint of self-awareness anymore, so this looks to be something I can safely skip. Can you turn off the music and indicators? What I liked about Far Cry 2 was just becoming immersed in that conflict. This seems to be disregarding that philosophy entirely in making it overtly "gamey".

Played some Spec Ops The Line, eh? ;)
