Jeff guns down like three Mexican dudes

Brad "I'm sold"

omg I lost it. thank you

God damn it. This game looks awesome and just so much better than GTA IV. I just don't have the time to pick this up right now, so many other games I'm still working on. Maybe if I hold off long enough they'll finally say they're making a PC or PS4 port.

Edited by Hayt

The game looks great but it doesn't quite LOOK great, not in the same way GTAIV did. I suppose that's what happens when you're working within the limits of such an old console.

Posted by smokyexe

Didn't look like it ran smoothly at all.

As someone who doesn't play GTA games, it's kind of nuts how much stuff the series has stolen from Saints Row over the years. That weapon wheel looks REALLY familiar.

The last GTA game came out before Saints Row 2 so no way there's been some "over the years" stealing going on.

Having lived in LA for a few years now, it's weird to see a fake version of it in video game form.

LA Noire was awesome, as well.

I am so excited. Believe the hype.

That heist looked AWESOME. I also loved the hackers iffy countdown.

Posted by Amafi

I was going to pick it up at midnight, but there was a line around a city block when I got to the store a quarter to. Was absolutely ridiculous.

dont tell people to not turn on free aim jeff!!!! you bastard!!!!!! seriously why would you play a tps with auto aim. or any shooter for that matter

Posted by ShaggE

I had no idea there was a "selfie" feature. That's some Saints Row dumb right there. (in a good way)

Posted by GermanBomber

I pretty much love everything I've seen about this game...can't wait to finally play it myself TODAY!!! :)

Really cool Quick Look, guys.

Surprising to see Brad not complaining about the ground texture or the framerate issues.

Haha! Yeah, I was like, "Wow, Brad...you're sold pretty fast!" :p

It's not ragdoll Brad Rockstar have been using the euphoria physics engine since GTA IV... Also the "next-gen console" part, it's a demo from 2008

@pudge: i think you got it in reverse. saints row stole from and came out after GTA dude.

Except for the weapon wheel. And the GPS stuff. And decent gunplay. I'm not saying it's bad or anything, I just think it's a sad double standard where GTA doesn't get called out for the kind of shit that Saints Row always got called out for.

That's not how it works. Saints Row was the first game to have good gunplay on consoles (on PC is was already pretty good in Vice City), but you can't say they stole from it because they figured out how to make it good.

It's natural evolution. I expect the shooting to be even better in GTAVI, I'm also positive a game comes out before then that also nails shooting in a similar fashion. That will not mean GTA stole from that game because they decided not to leave the shooting exactly how it was in the previous game.

I wanted to hold out for a PC version... but I don't think I will be able to.

GTA IV was disappointing, it seems more people are acknowledging that now. I wonder if opinion will turn in regards to GTA V.

And yeah. PC version would be preferable.

I don't think more people are acknowledging that. I didn't like GTAIV when it came out and I remember there being a small group of people with me on that. The majority still thinks it's a great game and I haven't seen the small group that didn't like it much grow.

But GTAIV had actual problems. I haven't played V yet (just picked up my copy two minutes ago), but it seems the main complaints I had with IV are worked out.

Also, why not just buy the console version? It will be at least 6 months before a PC version comes out, if not a lot more. Just play GTAV on console, sell it and then buy it on PC at some point. It'll set you back an extra 20 or 30 bucks but waiting sucks.

@mrsmiley: Wait. I thought they didn't do quests when they made the switch to PHP?

@rocospi: He's comparing a predecessor to a sequel. I see no problem with doing that. Did people compare StarCraft to StarCraft 2? Did people compare Oblivion to Skyrim?

They absolutely did.

I wonder if it's possible to not kill anyone. Missions and (maybe) cops aside, I mean like those gangsters or the dudes by the armored truck. I wonder if it's possible to just kick their asses hard enough to knock them out, then go on with your business.

"This is what payday should have been." Well jeff if you actually played the game I might respect that opinion.

Not that Payday 2 wasn't a disappointment in some respects (with it having less than half of the heists they promised and the endgame being a massive grindfest), but Jeff did not give that game a fair shake at all. He played it solo, at a low level with almost no equipment, on what's universally considered the worst level in the whole game, then proceeds to complain that there's "not much to it."

Well now I really want to know why Packie is there

After picking it up at midnight and playing until 7am, my first impression is all kinds of "Yeehaw!" and "HEY Kool-Aid!".

Loving it. I cant wait to see whats around the next corner. The dialogue is cool, and im already emotionally involved with the main characters.

Got to get a bit of sleep so i can get back to it later....

huh....forgot this comes out today

Well so starts the long wait for the PC version

Nice quick look. Thanks guys.

Eh, call me a crazy person, but I'm probably going to play with auto-aim turned off. Auto-aim looks to trivialize the difficulty of combat. If the combat was just flat-out bad, then yeah, I'd probably do auto-aim. But it looks way smoother than GTA IV's. Played RDR without auto-aim and had a great time. I just like to have some degree of challenge in games.

Also, that selfie bit was hilarious. I hope you can upload those online, seems you can seeing as how you require an internet connection to use the feature.

Waiting till PC version.

GTA games always review well, but I have never enjoyed one to that level.

People start gunfights with me all the time when I barely bump into them. Very realistic game.

Saints Row 4 is dead and forgotten to me. Doesn't even hold a candle to GTA5

I've played both and finished Saints Row 4, which was a 6/10 for me. Felt more like an expansion pack.

1. Brad continues to say "ambient" strangely
2. Brad also completely forgot about the wonders that is Euphoria
3. Brad also completely forgot about WASTED being GTA's standard death message.

I think Dota has irrevocably damaged his brain.

Have to correct the crew on something, you actually can grab the shitty gunman's bag (in this first heist) after he dies, you just have to be REALLY QUICK about it as it kinda comes out of nowhere (well you saw where he is in the QL), and you get only one chance at it (since the checkpoint is RIGHT AFTER YOU GET INTO THE TUNNELS), unless you restart the whole mission (and you only know if you got it or not during the final dialogue before they get into the truck). You get the full take then.

Come on, was there not enough bitching about this in the comments under that QL? Let it go.

Anyways, this game looks amazing. I'm always up for some GTA, I'm not even part of the backlash against GTA IV because I found that game to be incredible. Can't wait until monday when I'm actually gonna be able to play it!

One of first things I can remember on Giant Bomb is that GTA IV "Quick Look". Jeff bought it at the store and played it for us while everyone else chimed in. It was so exciting.

EDIT: HAHAHA! The ending reminded me of that exact same thing happening on the GTA IV Video Thing. Full Circle.

Amazing game! The ps3 version is the best one atm.

Heist coordinator guy looks and sounds a hell of a lot like Toby Jones, but I can't find anything that says it's actually him.

e: or at least it sounds like him during the voice-over. He sounds really different in cutscnes. It's like they had him nerd it up a bit for narration and then use a normal speaking voice in everything else. Weird.

Whoa, is this up two hours earlier than it was supposed to be? Jeff seems to be the perfect person to go to, to hear an opinion about a new GTA, just because of all of his GTA reviews from the past really. Did anyone else watch some of the GameSpot live stream? Adam Sessler's at Rev3Games is going to have one at seven I believe. Watching Danny play it on GameSpot from the get-go with my brother, really made an impressions. It's an impressive looking game, the game it seems Rockstar really wanted to achieve. The feeling of taking someone out is incredibly immersive and realistic in my opinion from what I saw, it kind of makes you feel bad, while there are also some goofy bugs which are fun to see, like jumping into a wall and smashing your face into it.

Edit - Good, I want to turn off auto aim, unless it perhaps gets too difficult in a section, maybe.

@zmilla: No, he just ended it about an hour ago and so they're uploading now, or later. It's 12 hours long though.

This couldn't have worked out more perfectly. I had to wait another hour before the store opened so I could go buy this game.

I love the middle finger mouse icon. It's those little, subtle details that GTA games alway seem to nail that still separate it from the competition.
