I don't think there would really be any references that go back to games before four, since to Rockstar, they're not the same canon. CJ doesn't exist in the world of GTA 5, only stuff that carries over, like radio stations and those characters, and the name of locations.

Sold. And I'm pretty sure I'll double dip in the future when the PC version comes out.

As someone who doesn't play GTA games, it's kind of nuts how much stuff the series has stolen from Saints Row over the years. That weapon wheel looks REALLY familiar.

This is one of the most obvious trolls I've seen. Come on, man.

Saint's Row invented the weapon wheel.

Heists look cool. Outside that I think I'd rather play Sleeping Dogs. I respect GTA more than I like it.

Who invented the radial menu? Not even the wiki seems to know. I think you guys should go edit that article.

Sadly I think this game will win game of the year.

Heists look and sound fantastic! Looking forward to GTA Online, considering it will probably have more heists and hopefully new heists on a weekly/monthly schedule. Can't wait to play this all night tomorrow!

Eh, call me a crazy person, but I'm probably going to play with auto-aim turned off. Auto-aim looks to trivialize the difficulty of combat. If the combat was just flat-out bad, then yeah, I'd probably do auto-aim. But it looks way smoother than GTA IV's. Played RDR without auto-aim and had a great time. I just like to have some degree of challenge in games.

Also, that selfie bit was hilarious. I hope you can upload those online, seems you can seeing as how you require an internet connection to use the feature.

Nah i'm the same, played GTA IV and RDR with free aim, really satisfying when you get good with it. However I also love dark souls and fighting games, so maybe i'm a bit of a masochist.

They did have heist missions in GTA IV online, it was awesome! (unless people didn't cooperate). GTA V online is going to be the best, dunno why Jeff is so opposed to it, I guess he doesn't like people :P

This game looks really nice for current gen. Stoked to play this!

This game invokes all of my horrible driving anxiety.

oddly enough, ive liked every rockstar game that WASNT made by Rockstar North (RDR, LA Noire, Max Payne 3 was pretty good, having not played the other 2). Seems like another GTA. Cant really get into the driving in them. Its way too easy to get the cops on you and then its really hard to lose them. Most fun i had in GTA was Vice City, just turning on all the cheats and blowing shit up.

Secret of Mana (1993) is the oldest thing in that list.

@tehjedicake: Assuming the data is part of the install - it would likely be the same.

PC often has faster load speeds, but you need a lot of things in place. You can of course, install a game onto an SSD for optimal load times - but that comes at significant cost (~$200 for a drive that'll hold your OS and a few games) A PC's standard hard drive will be faster than reading off of a disc (DVD or Blu-Ray) but sometimes not as fast as a console's hard drive, as a game gets more direct control over hardware on a console.

The biggest improvement they could make, is to fix the current issue regarding full installs on the 360 version, thus speeding up load times for the data on both discs.

yay because of this game i won't be able to play anymore ni no kuni :(

I wonder how much this sells in comparison to say annual Call of Duty sequels.

Whenever someone says something like "Who listens to radio? Doesn't everyone have an ipod?" I always think it makes them sound like a 13 year old valley girl.

Gonna buy this tonight.

Also, is it just me or is the video audio really low?

Edited by Rautapalli

Jeff, are you sure about not being able to pick up dropped money? I'm p sure I saw someone pick dropped cash up in another video and there was a green icon on the map when the dude on the bike fell, which seemed to point at the money.

Dat helmet tech! Seriously this looks alot better than 4, that game got really boring really fast. The dramatically different personalities of the characters is refreshing too. May not get it first week but definitely down the line.

I know for a fact that Turok 2 had a weapon wheel and that was back in 1998 on the N64. So chill the fuck out.

While it's sad they did not make big advancements on the story and the radio stations and such I have to say I am VERY impressed by their technical advancements. Looking this good and running this well on current gen consoles is no joke.

That being said, bring on the next gen/PC version!

So just how many times do you reenact the bank scene from Heat in this game?

Grand Theft Auto? Grand Theft Auto.

Myself owning no consoles I'm waiting six months for the PC version (which I hope runs better than GTA IV did at launch). Sad I have to wait but them's the breaks.

That weapon wheel is totally from Max Payne 3. They seemed to have borrowed a lot from the MP3 shooting generally.

From Eurogamer, in case anyone was wondering:

"At its core, both PS3 and 360 present the same massive Los Angeles-inspired sprawl via the same 720p native resolution lens, with almost entirely identical effects and object detail. However, it's apparent that the PS3 version has an undeniable advantage in one area: even to the naked eye, ground textures on 360 are blurred as a result of what appears to be unoptimised asset streaming. Glitch or not, this basically amounts to concrete and grass textures appearing fuzzier beneath the feet of Trevor, Michael or Franklin, while the PS3 version's remain crystal clear. The 360 does command a minor advantage in frame-rate during synchronised play, but for shoot-outs and high-speed hurtles down the city streets, the PS3 can sometimes pull ahead in these metrics - though the difference is rarely perceptible either way. Since all else is identical across the board, the PS3 version is recommended on the grounds of image quality if you have the option."

you've never played Saints Row

Looking at my Steam profile, I've played at least 50 hours of Saints Row on PC, and that doesn't count my 100% playthroughs of the first two games on 360, and 30-50 hours of multiplayer in the original Saints Row. So, yeah. I've played Saints Row.

Come on, get real. Everybody knows it's SR stealing from GTA.

I think this may be the most realistic feeling game world I've ever seen. Can't wait to play this when I have the time and money.

Why is it so hard for people to grasp that series can borrow/steal from ONE ANOTHER? In the beginning SR took from GTA, maybe now that SR is a big brand well known series it isn't completely insane for GTA to take from it and vice versa. Medal of Honor/Battlefield and Call of Duty have switched back and forth on taking from each other, Tomb Raider and Uncharted as well, games have always borrowed from other games.

That heist mission was amazing and there seems be some real variety to the side missions this time. The UPS truck with my copy of this needs to get here soon.

Man...this game is awesome. With all the hype and everything my expectations were HUGE, and so far the game is absolutely brilliant. I love the new driving and shooting mechanics, characters and dialogs, activities...and the missions were all really cool and fun so far.

I never was a huge fan of the police chases in the GTA games, they just get really annoying imo...but now even that is fun! It's fantastic.

I don't know about you guys, but this is EXACTLY the GTA I wanted.

No, I'm afraid you are wrong.

Posted by GaspoweR

@seanfoster: Well RDR also had a weapon wheel (even though Saints Row came out previous to this) so really it doesn't matter where it was originally it wouldn't mean this was something that was stolen from another game of the genre, etc.
