I hate JRPGs (and anime)

Posted by Venatio

Awesome, a lengthy QL of an Atlus RPG, loving it!

Posted by DoctorWelch

I hate this stupid like miniature polygonal characters that these games always seem to have. I would much rather have pixelized dudes or normal sized shitty looking dudes.

Vincent Caravella and Ryan Davis in a 30+ minute Quick Look made by Atlas?  Sign me up.

Mmm, Chrono Cross elemental field system

Looks like a doujin.

Looks boring...

Posted by The_Laughing_Man

Was that  yosuke  i heard?!?!

Posted by Sarumarine

I admit, I chuckled at "Diablow". But I always laugh when Ryan and Vinny do a Quick Look together anyway. So it's a great bonus.

As for the game... looks solid, if a bit bland.

that's a cool flying squirrel

Hexyz Force Endurance Run? Just kidding duders. ;)

How J is it?

Edited by metalsnakezero

This wasn't bad and it may turn out to be a pretty good JRPG.

Posted by Rhaknar

looks cool, but I cant really play rpgs on handhelds for some reason

Edited by DiGiTaL_SiN

Atlas should really start working on Persona 4 for the PSP. I WANTS THATS!

Roland HATES grass-eaters!

@Venatio: Atlus is just the publisher, they'd never make an RPG with a generic setting.

The art style reminds me of Grandia 2.  Both have reluctant female leads as well.

 Grandia 2

Hexyz Force

This doesn't seem bad but I fear that this will be on the long list of Jrpgs I have yet to finish on the PSP

Welcome to JRPG 101.  This has been the way it has been done for decades, so it against the laws of Japan to make people actually look like people and not some goofy pumpkin headed dwarf.

Actually there have been a few games that made people look normal, but they are a tiny minority.  And if you're going to make a generic-ass game like this anyway, you might as well be generic and have the generic dwarven people.

When Atlus was asked if they would publish Hexyz Force, Atlus shrugged.

THANK YOU! I'm here all week!!

Seriously, this is JRPG as fuck, and not in a good way. It seems to play like an SNES game.

Hahaha, the end was great Vinny. "Snarf!" "Oh that's probably a healing wind."

Seems kinda interesting.

Well a publisher in the usa while they are both a publisher and developer in Japan.

Looks kinda neat.

I know they are a developer, hence the ''generic setting'' part:P

They  didn't make this game, though.

Ok whats with the flying blue squirrel? Is it an actual creature in the game or just a drug induced fantacy of the girl with the magic staff? Seriously nothing in that quick look made sense.
Posted by MeatSim

At least this game doesn't have random battles I can deal with turn based RPG's but random battles are the worst.

Posted by Delta_Ass

This is a JRPG.

I don't think I like JRPGs.

Posted by Beforet

As with most JRPG, status effects suck. Thanks for keeping the status quo, good sirs.

Posted by Yummylee

Looks like generic JRPG 101.

Giant purple wave of death and then..... nothing. Tra la la in the forest.

Seems like the anime cutscenes will have the characters using a lot of extra words or taking awkward pauses to match up the lip synch. When you're surprised by a massive cloud of purple death, you don't take the time to say "What in the world could that be?". I couldn't help but cringe when I heard her say that. Also how is a timid little girl like her so calm about it? I guess she knew nothing was going to happen after the cutscene.

Also I wonder just how hard it is to maintain concentration during a quick look, since both of them seemed to forget the simple path they took through the temple and missed the NPCs telling them where to go.

This looks pretty cool. Might check this one out later.
I love playing RPGs on handhelds for some reason.

Looks like one of those games I start playing because in theory I like JRPGs, can't stop playing because of the compulsive Progress Quest nature of the genre, and then watch the end credits with a blank, empty look in my eyes and a strong feeling that I should never do this again.  And dammit, the story in Dragon Quest V is not as good as people say either!  And another thing, blargh!

Posted by Pudge

These characters look like MySims and the big plant monster reminds me of a Digimon. Just sayin.

I want to be found by the Maiden Patrol

What are Yosuke and Yukiko doing in this game, and why do they look different?

I-i..i

I'm not seeing a resemblance in neither personality nor looks. wha,,,?

I usually hate it when people just burn through dialogue like that, but for this game it's totally warranted. These characters and stuff are all very uninteresting, and I even consider myself to like most JRPG storylines. They throw exposition at you about everything in dump truck loads, and there's no real reason to listen if you aren't even interested in the characters themselves.

JRPGs work better when you don't have to read a novel before playing the game.

Looks like something I would've enjoyed in my youth.

Posted by noisyninja

This game reminds me lot of the Lunar series. They should make this game for psn, we need more jrpgs like breath of fire, lunar, grandia, wild arms, etc. I miss the ps2 days.

@mutha3:  he meant that the voices are Yosuke and Yukiko's
Posted by ashogo

That's a J-RPG alright.
It's good to have a female protagonist for once.

Posted by BigChief

Ha, was that the Donuts song as Vinny's ringtone still? Nice. At any rate, this game seems alright. If I had a PSP, I might get it.

Agreed. To all of it.

Also what really cracked me up in the QL at the end:

"...and this alarming boobs."
"Did I mention I'm eleven?"

A very well placed JRPG cliché joke. I bow my head to you Mr. Caravella.
