I heard some bad things about this game. Hopefully the quicklook can confirm said impressions or get me excited for this sequel. I loved the first infamous, one of the only PS3 exclusives I really enjoyed.

Edit: I don't think I got it!

Can't wait to see Brad praising everything being exactly the same as in the first game! The demo completely turned me off from buying this, as it was literally the exact same game again.

Please be first I want that quest. Hopefully Infamous 2 will wash out the bad taste the Duke Nukem QL left.

It's not exactly the same as the first game, the core mechanics are almost the same, but the game has improved on every single thing.... in my opinion.

Is that a Song Of Ice And Fire reference in my quick look?

My opinion comes from the demo, so it's not an opinion that anyone should actually listen to

Finished the game today, absolutely loved it. Really enjoyed the bad karma side and it looks like the good karma side has plenty of reasons to return to the game as well.

Hopefully I can get this soon, I really liked the first one and the quick look will probably sell me on it more.

Yay! Awesome.

This looks really great. Payday can't come soon enough.

I picked the first inFamous as one of my free Welcome Back games and have been enjoying it a LOT. Finished it on normal being a good guy, now playing on hard being a bad guy. If inFamous 2 is more of the same, count me in (though I will probably wait until I can get it a little bit cheaper). The first game is very gamey, so if you're not into gamey games, it isn't the game for you. I'm guessing the same will go for part deux. Now, time to watch the QL....

If you say the word "first" you don't get the quest.

You don't have to do any of the negative karma side missions to find all the Blast Shards if you are playing a good karma run.  I have all 305 and I didn't kill one runner at all through my playthrough.

Posted by JacDG

Also, it totally pulls in decisions from the first game, some chick came up to me and thanked me for feeding her grandmother in the first game.

On the subject of transfaring saves I did notice that one side missions did reference empire city. On my first play through I was good and a lady praised Cole for saving her mother from starving in Empire City and thats the mission. On my second play through the same lady screamed at Cole for letting her mother starve to death and then she launched a militia ambush.

You don't need to do any bad things in order to get all the blast shards. You can get them from the environment and the good side events are enough to get all of them.

Prototype 2...

I got the first one through the welcome back program, hopefully the second one is just as good if not better.

They probably could have also riffed on "Winter is coming."

Patrick: "I play this game for the traversal. Combat has gotten better but...collecting blast shards is my favorite thing to do in this game."
Brad: "Absolutely"

What?? I feel like I just stepped into the twilight zone. Collecting blast shards (or anything in games) is such a tedious pain in the ass. The combat is clearly the reason to play this game. If you are not enjoying it, here's a tip: play evil.

Posted by bhhawks78

I hated the story/morality system/and electro guns of first game, looks like more of same :(

@Nasar7: I get what they mean and they do mention it. In Crackdown it was really addicting and fun I guess? Climbing building and grabbing the agility orbs.

00:10:21 ... Brad talking shit about Uncharted 1? Really? I blame it on 'talking while playing'...

Posted by handlas

people saying it is basically Infamous 1.  Yep.  But the powers make it a lot more fun and I think the missions have been more fun to play thus far. The morality system is still stupid.

Posted by Grillbar

to get all the shard trophy you dont have to do the good/evil karma things they only counts towards the ones that are scattered around the city

Posted by Rincewind

I wish they would port this franchise to the PC! aaarrhhg

Posted by Scodiac

This game is really fun to play. Just awesome moment to moment. Once you get a handle on all your powers you can traverse the city so well and just wreck dudes. Sucker Punch has really nailed the feeling of being a super hero. Again, it's just fun to play.

Great quick look, I'm looking forward to your review Brad. I have been playing since Friday when I got it and I'm loving it, wrote a blog post on how I think it's the perfect sequel

I guess I am just not one of those people. I don't think that's ever fun, be it orbs, blast shards, feathers, or whatever they are called.

Brad's "I don't know about that" as he struck down the street musician was hilarious.

Seriously? That sucks. I wish I had known that previously, then I would have used the word "original" instead of first. Did the person who posted after me get it then?

I picked up Infamous as part of the Welcome Back promotion.  It had a "first generation" feel to it.  This, however, looks extremely polished.  The graphics look infinitely better, the animation is smoother and less cartoony, and the actual play mechanics seem to flow much better.

Posted by Marz

I really like the idea of the game being populated by user created missions.  But this will probably be another game i'll wait for it to be a greatest hits price point before i take the plunge.  I still need to finish the first game i got for free from sony :)

Good calls all around. Playing bad on hard seems to be the way to go since collateral damage = xp. And you're right, Infamous 2 is very much more of the same as well as a gamey game. Though 2 feels less awkward in it's handling of all the side missions/collectables. It's just as gamey at it's core. But it feels less gamey in practice due to how they weave character and story into all that.

It's totally worth owning at $60, but I'm sure it will hold up fine for the year it'll take to drop half-price.

Things feel very similar upon first impression, but when you start obtaining new powers, the refinements to the overall gameplay really start to show. I've really enjoyed the game so far, can't wait to start up my evil karma run.

Posted by Devoid

I should really go and buy this sometime this week..

Didn't buy the first one, but was stoked I was getting it for free - and what do you know, I loved it. Enough to Platinum it, and that's saying something.

Posted by probablytuna

I have a copy of the game for a little over a week now but I haven't spent much time playing it. Watching the Quick Look certainly makes me want to play the game right now.

Posted by Glottery

As I started playing this, it certainly felt similiar to first one. While that's a good thing, it also felt almost too much alike...but once story progressed and more powers came along, it rocked/rocks a hella lot. Almost a better sequel for me than Dead Space 2 or Portal 2, and both those games were incredible as well!

I love you 2011. <3 Or the games you've offered so far at least...

Ice launch 30 mins in.

Look at dat shit.

Crime doesn't pay, bitches.

Posted by Hairydutchman

I think the graphical jump is comparable to Uncharted > Uncharted 2.

Posted by GodsMistakeXx

Hey look! A good game!

Brad: i can't help but play a boyscout all the time / i'll show you the ice powers / i won't spoil which out of ice and fire powers are good or evil

hmmmm

oh man that looks so fun, I wish I had a PS3 :D.

Nice, but I still don't like why he's in Street Fighter x Tekken
