You want some sweet fuckin patch notes. Look at 6.75 from dota. Just delicious, raw numbers. Hundreds upon hundreds of numbers.

Edited by DarkbeatDK

My editor got a copy yesterday and I'm hoping to be able to play it for review tomorrow. It looks like a modern military FPS game from this thread.

was rather quick to reply on what AK stood for. I'm seriously starting to wonder if you are on an FBI watchlist somewhere dude :D

Man, if EA really sent that pizza with the patch notes, props to em.

Seriously, 36 seconds is all you have to watch of the video to answer your question.

I am usually pretty defensive when people say the crew sucks at games, but damn did brad have a horrible case of tunnel vision during this. I swear it looked like he was trying to ignore every prompt.

Quick Look: Pizza.

Posted by prestonhedges

There's no way he's got full control on that driving sequence. The game's funnelling him down those alleys.

I love the Quick Look stylings this week! The live-show openings are fantastic!

EDIT: And I would absolutely tune in to watch you eat pizza.

Does Patrick have a grudge against the developers of this game? Seems like he was constantly looking for something to hate.

Or it is because EA and Danger Close have done everything in their power to make a scarily generic videogame.

Hey, I hate generic military shooters as much as the next guy and I don't give two shits about MoH, but I'm not going to say it's a shitty game and every aspect of it is shitty from spectating 15 minutes of it. If I dismissed every game that looked generic and derivative, I'd miss out on some great games. I don't disagree with Patrick on some points. MoH doesn't have the bombast that makes Call Of Duty entertaining and MoH's story (from what is show in the quick look) is needlessly obtuse and I have no idea why the fuck anyone is shooting everyone. But other complaints like CG cutscenes, the grenade indicator, the game not explicitly telling you where to aim in order to compensate bullet drop and Patrick just dismissing the finer parts of the game like the car chase, he just seemed like he came into this ready to shit on it after admitting he doesn't really know anything about it and hasn't played it.

Ryan and Brad seemed like the only ones giving it a fair shot.

Man, Brad has a sweet beard.

Posted by MordeaniisChaos

@CosmicQueso: I was doing stuff getting ready for work and didn't have a chance to check right away, figured I'd post and ask to see if I got an answer rather than a dick being a dick, because I'm running low on bandwidth for the month and a two hour HD file isn't something I want to download if they are only playing on the 360. Plus, in the past, long quick looks like this usually meant showing off multiple versions of a game that usually doesn't need that much time to show off.

The hardest quicklook to watch as a shooter fan. Patrick just complained about shooters the whole time and Brad was ignoring any clues on to how to play the game. At least Ryan paid attention and had some good jokes.

The sniper sequence was killing me. The game gave them the distances of the enemies and the numbered scope notches for 100 meters each, and they just kept complaining about how it wasn't possible to know the drop on the bullets.

Any cool cats know the name of the jazzy tune starting at the 05.23-mark?

That stuff is wicked.

Much obliged.

Posted by deerokus

That cover system was in the last WWII Medal of Honor game. Which was actually a really good one. The name escapes me, it was the game where you were a paratrooper.

Anyway, this game seems to be even more of an advert for how great the military is than these games usually are, which I find really unpleasant.

EDIT: Damnit. Oh well. No HD for me.

Is anyone else weirded out by how "uninspired" is the thing people are saying is wrong with the game that is trying to be as authentic and close to reality as possible? Isn't that just what you should be expecting?

Ummm, what? The problem is, it's not as authentic and close to reality as possible. Did you see the sniper rifle sequence where the player gets *infinite* ammo? Or the way Brad was storming into rooms and taking shots to the face and magically surviving? Or how the game funnels you through a narrow shooting gallery all the time, without any room for meaningful tactical maneuvering?

It's a generic CoD clone.

Not gonnil lie, I love listening to all the giantbomb guys, but when they start complaining about something due to a lack of comprehension, it drives me insane. Like when they were making fun of the game showing a red arrow over some of enemies' heads. It only happened when your partner was spotting enemies for you - but they thought it applied to every enemy in the game.

Escape from NY is good Pizza

Posted by Colourful_Hippie

Nothing like some good ole misogyny to spice up this authentic game.

Edited by deerokus

Man that sniper sequence, has nobody at GiantBomb ever sniped in Battlefield or anything like that? :( Those shots are nothing compared to what you have to do in MP in BF.

Edit; hahaha that grenade indicator in the fmv scene is amazing. Like the scarecrow sequences in Batman: AA.

They should just change the name of this game to "Military First Person Shooter."

I want someone to just go ahead and do a big budget parody with this title. It's about time we get one.

I was really hoping Brad would die in the cut scene when the grenade indicator popped up.

It's a generic CoD clone.

It is realistic in the sense that the devs tried to simulate "real" military situations with all the jargon and hardware thrown about. However, I believe the "not dying when being shot in the face" is a gameplay conceit to make the game more fun. Realism is nice but in a mass market game like this you run a line where "realistic" just becomes not fun for most people. Super realism as you mentioned is relegated to more "niche" games such as Arma.

I wouldn't call it a clone either, gameplay evolution is(and has been for many great games) dependent on learning and expanding on interesting elements from other games. Call of Duty does the exact same thing. The problem with this game is that what the devs added to the borrowed gameplay elements is not exactly interesting for those who have seen their derivatives before. In addition, the shooting just looks kinda flat, recoil seems only straight vertically and the weapon sound effects lack punch. Textures look muddy and the colour scheme just looks kinda ugly to me.

No. The part that's uninspired is that someone's making this exact same game again. The same modern military settings, the same modern military guns, the same god-awfully slow scripted sequence of something "dramatic" happening that the player no agency over followed by a tight hallway or mysteriously closed off field for the player to run through and maybe even shoot some guys when he gets out on the other side. And then there's a twist (oh look robot sequence (kinda like the one in Modern Warfare 3)), and another twist (oh look, sniper segment (a bit like the one in Modern Warfare)), and another twist (oh look, vehicle level (like the one in every FPS to come out in the past five years)). I bet there's going to be a flight level of some kind later on. One where you have no direct control but you can either shoot things from a helicopter (like in Black Ops) or a big plane (like in Modern Warfare) or a smaller plane (like in Battlefield 3) or some other kind of really lofty, amazing-looking sequence that isn't actually any fun to play because you're just pointing and clicking lazily at the screen while checking your phone with the other hand.

There is no authenticity about a game that's 50% gameplay and 50% cutscene that's trying to trick you into thinking it's actually gameplay. There is no realism about a sequence that tries to make you feel at risk when several enemies are popping out to shoot at you, but can't actually hit you even if you stand still for ten seconds because it's too early in the game and you're not supposed to die yet. There's nothing fun about a game that tries to be contemporary and innovative by having an arsenal of different setpieces and crazy objectives but that always leave you with a binary choice; win or lose. And sometimes not even that. Sometimes there is no lose. You just have to point and click at enough enemies or sit around for long enough for the game to progress. If there is a fail condition that doesn't involve the player downright dying, you can count on the game still forcing you back to checkpoint, because no one bothered to think that it's probably realistic that you could find another way of accomplishing what you're supposed to do instead of using the one supplied gimmick to get to the one designated objective.

Not just uninspired. Uninspiring. Dreadfully so. Now, this is just my opinion from watching the quick look, not having played the game myself, but I've played what feels like a dozen of these games in the past five years, and I'd put money on my predictions about this game being 100% correct. Especially seeing how vigilant the developers obviously were with things like scripted events failing to trigger and grenade indicators popping up during cutscenes.

Just... goddamn...

Oh God almighty, that was so fucking boring to watch! Nothing happens of any note in the missions, and the Preacher moments seem completely removed from the rest of the game. Black Ops did this so, so much better than this. It's especially insulting considering there's a day-one patch and there's still tech issues up the ass.

Thank you for saving me $60, GB crew.

This. It's every single time something comes up that sets the world on fire, there's a billion imitators. So few of them are ever as fun as the originals, and most are just fucking dreadful cash-ins, like this game seems to be. It's an odd time to be such an uninspired CoD clone when even CoD is getting away from the formula a bit with Black Ops 2.

I love how Patrick constantly complains that game stories are dumb and simplistic and we need intense indie games to show us the way, and then he can't follow the plot on a Goddamn modern military game.

i think it was more that he was looking for a meaningful plot with decent context, not a bunch of non sequiturs mixed with FPS military shooter cliches.
