Monopoly... a game for men.

Edited by Tennmuerti

Monopoly was fun when I was around 8.

Edited by MegaMetaTurtle

Quick question:

Has anyone actually played a game of Monopoly through to the very end?

I know I haven't .

Edit: Also, anyone else love Monopoly on the itBox?

Posted by stinky

ryan doing a quick look via phone?

throw that mic away.

Posted by Ineedaname

Anyone else feel the audio was a little weird?

Yes, many times.

@SuperSambo:

Wow, that's hardcore.

Mine usually end due to accusations of cheating and the fact it lasts HOURS.

I wonder if the boards are region-specific; i.e. getting the UK board in the UK. For example, The Angel, Islington instead of Oriental Avenue.

The Battleship is the best Monopoly piece!
Posted by tracerace11

@Ryan dude, that is totally the way we used free parking! we didnt believe in leaving a space boring or unused!

Posted by Robopengy

Yay Ryan!

Edited by Piranesi

How difficult would it have been to include all the localised versions - they just need to replace street X / facility Y with a regional variant?

They also need to add a cheater mini-game ... most of the fun was trying to steal the most cash while your little sister wasn't looking.

I saw no Ice T at all. Those aren't streets. Those are perfect walkways.

Posted by Muscular_Thighs

Why do Baltic and Mediterranean look brown? Aren't they normally a  lush purple?

Posted by Kieran_ES

This made me remember Monopoly Tycoon, that game was awesome.

Weird audio

Posted by jeffrey.j.reimers@gmail.com

Some week for TNT/whatever, the GB crew has to get a real Monopoly board and play.  I would totally watch that.

Posted by heatDrive88

I would have expected Ryan to like being the boot because then you could think you are traveling around in Kuribo's Shoe.

I noticed that too, man. Sounds like mic bleed, but then I'm not the AV guy I once was.
Posted by Darkstar614

Fuckin' Monopoly.. eventually someone will rage out and either flip the board over, or just give all their stuff to someone. Both scenarios ruining the game for the other people.

Some good banter in this quick look. I highly enjoyed it.

Ironic that it is more fun talking about monopoly than actually playing it.

Posted by litrock

Now I want a QL (or an ENDURANCE RUN AMIRITE) of regular-ass board game monopoly.

Posted by Silentium

The streets part still looks kind of weird and the animations will probably start pissing you off at some point :D

Posted by BeachThunder

Interesting, but...No thanks.

Definitely agree with this, the discussion on the rule set was actually quite interesting. At least I thought so.

Also, I'm always the boot :3

Much rather play the board game.

They recorded the whole quick look inside a metal trashcan to make it more "streets."
Posted by Zithe

I'm with Vinny. Why was the first set of properties colored brown instead of purple?

Posted by Baal_Sagoth

The boot is the most glorious Monopoly piece besides the top hat. Everyone knows this ;)
Cool QL! Alex, you (and sometimes Rorie too) seem to do a whole lot on GB lately. Just something I noticed, but I very much enjoy the videos and reviews you guys do.

I want to play Monopoly now.

Thousands of times.

The audio in this is damn echo-y.
Posted by TheJuda

was this recorded on the street? wow, that audio was bad.

Posted by CornBREDX

I remember the PC game of Star wars Monopoly from when I was a kid. That was kinda cool. Never totally liked board games all that much though.

Lotta cool options there but I have to agree, not something i'd pay more then 20-25 dollars for.

I would also watch them play the actual board game.  And they can make InternetSteve be the banker...

Anyone else think of that scene in Boondock Saints when Ryan said "symbology" instead of symbolism? Or am I just a grammar nut?

Posted by ImperiousRix

I... I for some reason want this game now.
Then again, I'm a fiend for board games.  Especially Monopoly.

Posted by dyong

I could see all this mere eye-candy as a case of the devs afraid to make too big a change to the classic Monopoly concept, or perhaps being too controlled by the original license holders.

Edited by bybeach

It was for you Alex. it was to punish you for your hatred in the Bombast of the Fish...I mean Phish.

Nice to Hear Vinny back there.....

@Zithe: They've been brown on every Monopoly board that I've seen.
Posted by Psyael

EA's last Monopoly game got bad reviews for having no custom rules, which probably explains why there's so many custom options in this one.

Edited by Zithe
@Kung_Fu_Viking:  Blasphemy! My Monopoly is THE Monopoly.

Edit: But seriously, I wonder if that's just an age difference or an international difference or what? Mediterranean and Baltic have always been purple for me here in the U.S.

Didn't think of Boondock Saints (haven't seen it), but as I am also kind of a grammar nut I was compelled to look the words up and it seems like they pretty much mean exactly the same thing. See symbology and  symbolism

Also always enjoy hearing more of Giantbomb's own Alex Navarro.
Posted by Undeadpool

I keep wanting (because I'm a pessimist) to think that Alex is doing too much for Giant Bomb and not enough for Screened...except that he does tons over at Screened...so I guess he's just a workaholic (though I suppose that's a perk of doing what you love for a living: it's easy to put in extra time).

Hasbro owns Parker Brothers and  Milton Bradly. So it is not a licencing thing, because they are the same company :P

In fact. If you play a board game, or even table top game, it was probably made by Hasbro.

Indeed, loved that, although on rare occasions when enough cash got in there, it could really screw things up for the people that didnt land on it.  Part of the fun though.
