You know what would make this exploding bridge more extreme? LASERS.

disappointed with the demo.  Really liked the first 2 games :/

So this is Motor Storm meeting Split/Second?

Looks pretty cool although the lack of destruction caused by players could be annoying. At least they use the cheesy cutscenes as pretty effective tutorials about some basic concepts. So far it seems like it shares quite a bit of Spli/Second's vibe which I like despite some potential flaws.

so close! I still fail to get that...i wish there was a block against 1st posts if you have the quest. Not a big fan of motor games but this one looks pretty decent.

remake carmageddon 2!

Oh god Carmageddon yes. Goddamn. So awesome.

How I miss MotorStorm of yesteryear.

Posted by Tonylope

It looks interesting, but I'm not sure it's the right type of racing game for me.

Posted by Zabant

Oh thank god new quick look. I NEED THIS.

I wish people who care about first post quests get perma-banned. Oh well, can't have everything.

Steve Blum confirmed.

Posted by crusader8463

Weird. I could have sworn I read somewhere that after the earthquake in Japan they had cancelled this game. Maybe they are just not shipping it in Japan?

"Lets see what they have done with this festival mode"

I'll tell you what they haven't done ryan, Anti-Aliasing.

LET'S RACE!

Not enjoying Jeff's minor cynicism about this game. A bit nit picky.

Posted by IBurningStar

Have Steven Blum and Nolan North ever worked on the same game? Because they are pretty much the dynamic duo of video game voice actors.

Posted by jonesed

so how's the online?.... oh wait.

Posted by Valkyr
@crusader8463: They delayed it a few weeks because it was harsh and unethical to be racing and having fun during a similar disaster that some real people was suffering. Also, the game has a track that is called 'Waves of mutilation' that features a tsunami+ earthquake.

That's the way he is about a lot of things it seems like unfortunately. I do prefer the more enthusiastic Jeff like with Mortal Kombat, but  he just seems burned out sometimes and picks everything apart.

I feel like if you are going to differentiate your racing title with a story, don't make it a stop motion comic. It cheapens the effect and somehow makes the racing worse.

Posted by Ghost_of_Perdition
@IBurningStar: Yep, Singularity. It's the only one I know of, but it was just a few lines of dialogue in one cutscene.
Posted by StriderNo9

I actually like Motorstorm. I wouldn't mind renting this.

Posted by RVonE

The motion comic stuff looks ridiculous.
Posted by Mongoose
@Ockman: Dunno, I think I'd be a bit critical/nit picky of this.  The game rubbed me the wrong way almost instantly.  Horses for courses suppose.

Most likely a few times. They're both well known for providing dozens upon dozens of ''minor roles'' in games. Dragon Age: Origins for example. Except that time Blum did actually voice a supporting character, Oghren, while Nolan only voiced minor characters; like that crazed dwarf, Ruck, during the Deep Roads bit.

Lmao. That's.. pretty awesome. Never played it, though such a scene has certainly raised my interest.

Steven Blum is the new Nolan North.

In terms of quantity ..

Steven Blum pulling out that Ogrehn/Grey voice again. Man, makes me wish I could bulletkick a motorcross racer.

I fucking hate motion comics in games. Actually I just hate them period. They always look so crappy and they just scream to me that the devs didn't have enough time or money to make real, nice cg cutscenes, or even in-engine stuff, so they just cobbled together some bad looking bullshit instead.

Posted by MrWoks
@Ockman:
The reason why he is "nick picky" in this quick look is because the game play ad story look terrible.
Posted by Nobuyuki

Oh man those cutscenes look awful.

Posted by DarkbeatDK

I notice that Jeff have started using the term "I've never really kinected with any of *insert something here*".
Are you being paid for that Jeff?

So does that mean Blum > North? OH SHI-
Edited by MEATBALL

LASERS? Fing A I'm watching this Quick Look.

Edit: The cutscenes definitely look like a drag, but the game itself looks pretty great.

Edited by MagikGimp

Maybe Jeff's just really good at games (does he play quite a few of them, I don't know) but this looks pretty easy to me. Also, getting sick of the concept of the lack of respect for virtual human life in modern games; it's a little bit disturbing IMHO.

"Members of the public, you now have one minute to reach minimum safe distance ."  is the vibe I got from the people hanging out on the track.

Posted by HowDire

Too much "Insert random word to create a new genre"-step for my liking...

Posted by thecosmicfly

I still get the feeling that all of the motion comic cutscenes were actually animated storyboards with the fully rendered cinematics (in-game or CGI, who knows) later to come, but they ran out of budget halfway through development and they decided ‘Fuck it, we still have these basic scenes lying around. Mike, Adam, polish them up for retail.” At least, that’s the vibe I got when playing through the game. You don’t go from having those gorgeous intro/menu background videos to half-assed Newgrounds flash video animation, and if it was purely a design choice, then it was a bad one.

This comic cutscene trend has to stop. It's always shit.

Posted by phrosnite

The racing genre is not one of my favourites...

Edited by Kesselrun

I'm pretty bummed to see that the physics haven't been improved. I really hated the way crashes felt in previous games - not the fact that I was crashing so often, but the weird way objects reacted to one another.

Motion comic stuff looks terrible too, but hopefully there will be enough good racing content in there to make a playthrough worthwhile once the game drops in price. I agree with Jeff that the destruction would be more impressive if it was related to the player's actions.
Posted by devil_spawn666

motion comic disappoint.

granted, motorstorm needed something to freshen up the festival experience rather than pure badge-earning, and a story mode is a good attempt, but that motion comic just looks cheesy.

motorstorm 1 was the launch title to have, pacific rift is great, but i highly doubt i'll be getting apocalypse. i was unimpressed with the demo a few weeks back, and this QL hasn't sold me either. shame.

This game makes me want Road Rash even more. Come on EA, what are you doing? Well than again, I wouldn't want you to further ruin my Genesis days. So I guess, continue taking your time, the game will never meet my expectations... or what I remember as a kid.
