Drew what are you talking about?!?!?

FLOPPY DISK FTW!

Posted by andrewf87462

Ryan's right, it does remind me alot of PGR3, but with Forza 3 coming out, it doesn't matter how good this years NFS is, it really doesn't stand a cat in hell's chance of standing up to it.

Man, what happend to racing games. Both this and DiRt 2 look very floatly. Cars are heavy, they don't float on the road. I understand this doesn't bother some of you, but it drives me crazy.

A Forza clone looks boring and then you say "bring on Forza 3."

... What?
Edited by Death_Burnout

The career looks really lifeless.

And yeah for a game thats all about the cockpit view...woulda kind of liked to see the crashes in that view as they were intended...i also think the cockpit is the only way to go sometimes, because some racing games look so bizzare behind the car...Test Drive Unlimited springs to mind.

playing first person in that was amazing...any other view and it was horrendous

More Drew = More Awesome

It looks very Project Gotham-y.

More Drew commentary is always welcome.

"I just registered to say these guys aren't  playing from the cockpit view.  How are you people in the gaming industry and dont know thats the way to play this game??  They are doing this game a dis justice.  The game has already gotten 90% from its first two reviews.  Listenup podcast today stated the game is amazing on all fronts Graphics, Gameplay and sound.   Do not make clueless comments like its another PGR game.  Its not ive played it and it blew away forza 3 at PAX.  IMHO "

If you don't like using a cockpit view then your not going to use it. I'm like Ryan when I'm driving in real life I have no real idea of the size of the car and I can't tell where the bonnet ends or where the back of the car ends. I also use the behind the car camera and so this whole first person driving model is lost on me. And dude there is quite a bit of similarity between PGR and this, they are both arcadey racers with closed off circuits in urban areas.

we like you drew

I feel that people are misinterpreting this game, its not trying to be Forza at all, its more like a next gen GTR with high production values with assisted modes to help ease casual racing sim players into the hardcore. This game is all about the racing where Forza and GT5 is all about the cars. This is more like Grid but with deep physics and mechanics, Grid is full on arcade where this is full on sim.

Posted by PenguinDust

This looks like my kind of sim racer, but I'd wind up playin' the game with all the assists on like Ryan and I think that kind of defeats the purpose of it being a sim racer.  Might as well go play any of the arcade racers at that point. Still I was once into GT3, so I might take a look at this game when I have some free time.

Posted by Mordi

I prefer Forza's minimalist style over NFS' maximalist style. This seems much better that the three most recent NFS games, though.

Posted by drangel

this game looks really good, but bad timing, that's all I can say. FM3 is my game of choice for the fall, so I won't be playing another racer.

Posted by Soap

Looks awful.

Came here for cockpit view. Left disappointed.

Edited by dEFaNkT

maybe it was just Ryan's awful driving but NFS:Shift actually doesn't look that great-a-game anymore :(

I wish you could drive your car in 3rd person in real life.

@cikame:  I think it's mostly the camera. It doesn't follow the car from an angle fixed to the car, but rather follows the inertia of the car, which makes the game look like an Outrun game.  It's probably a lot better from the cockpit view, or hood cam, but the dunno.

And from the cockpit view, it looks as if the tires of the car are permanently out of balance. After all the praise the cockpit view has gotten from, f.ex. Garnet of 1up and other game journalists, this is really rather disappointing. Bleh. :(

I havent played a good NFS game since Porche Unleashed. NFS 3 and 4 were also pretty good.

Drew: "oh black and white! Do'u think you have to hide behind some cover to get ure health back?!" lol!

Might try this..... i have been loving dirt2 and waiting for forza hmmm, i will see

Looks good, however aweful preview, I want to see more of the replays and more of the cockpit view instead of the over the car view.

Maybe if you attach a camera on an 8 foot pole to the back of your car which then the video feed goes to a screen on the front where you can view it....but that'd be silly....

This actually looks surprisingly good.

Game needs a demo. Also wished yuo guys had shown off the damage stuff, but whatevs. Looks decent, but this is the kinda game you need to get your hands on to really be sure.

Lots of costumization - HD (very nice stuff)
Posted by themw007

This game looks awful, NFS has always been about speed and the police chasing you but now its turned into a forza type of game? Come on EA this isn't NFS fix your game instead of copying others

Posted by PsychedelicET

Nice to see another Drew QL, even though I know nothing about driving games! :D

Posted by RHCPfan24

Huh, I had little to no interest in this game before but now it looks pretty sweet. I could possibly get into this.

Posted by mrsmiley

Dang it... Ryan ruined this quicklook for me by not playing in cockpit view. If Drew is the racing guy, let him play the game! <3

Posted by Shadow

The first Forza game was actually the thing to do the dynamic brake line stuff.  That aside, this doesn't seem like something I'd want to get.  I think I'm past buying classic racing games without something interesting and original going for it.  Like Ryan, I love racing with the camera behind the car so the super detailed cockpit view isn't really doing it for me.

Edited by ahoodedfigure

Give Drew, the racing guy, the controller!! :P

Too bad we didn't see more of the wrecks, or more of the cockpit mode.

Posted by Daryl

Ugly box art.

Posted by SSValis

ryan seems arrogant some times. By the way most of the allure in this game is the cockpit view and some of us actually do care ryan.

Posted by Dudacles

I like how Ryan calls Forza fans Forzas and Gran Turismo fans Gran Turismos. :p

Posted by Reuben

It looks alright, I'm spending my money on Forza though.

i know right? Need For Speed folks are super pimpin the cockpit view PR style so i was kinda hoping this quicklook would show that stuff. i dunno how people that drive real cars dont like a cockpit view. so weird.

Well, he did say he hates it in real life as well (don't ask me …), so there you go.
Posted by FuzzYLemoN

This game looks significantly worse outside of cockpit view. You disappoint me, Ryan.

Posted by needforswede

this isn't what I need

Posted by GagnarTheUnruly

I can't even watch a QL of a racing game with a behind-the-car view.  Serious racing games shouldn't offer that camera position!

Might help some people with parallel parking...

You know, as someone who's been a NFS fan since the 90's, and who hasn't truly liked an NFS title since Most Wanted, this game really interests me. Need For Speed has always been a series that changed its formula now and then, if it can succeed in the world of sims for a while, then I think that's awesome.

Oops I meant attach not attack heh.  Anyways I agree that Drew should have been playing and just Ryan commentating.

GT4 had speed lines but only on certain license tests.

Posted by joslop500

I really don't like Ryan's quick looks. He never has enough information about the game to even answer the simplest questions. The other Giant Bombers at least try to research some info before doing a quick look.

Edited by TwoOneFive

its  a shame he doesnt give the cockpit view a chance because this is one game where it really works well.
and seriously Ryan, this quick look sucks because of it.
the game is awesome in cockpit view. cant see why you dont like it, this game does it GREAT

There are some alarming drops in frame rate in this video, especially when you take a corner.  Is the capture equipment contributing to this, or is it like it all the time?
