OOHHHHHHHHHH SHIFT!

DREWQL Time.

Yes!
Edited by buzz_killington

I don't know if it's the "world of sim" they're foraying into.

P.S. Awesome to see Drew doing more in-front of "camera" stuff.

P.P.S. Ryan don't you talk shit about Brad!!

Posted by Tovan

Hurray Drew, making the big time.

Posted by lordofultima

Man Shift looks amazing, I'm stoked.

Posted by Chris2KLee

Man, keep kicking  Brad when he's down! Still, more Drew racing commentary, huzzah!

Posted by Trace

Awesome to establish Drew as the racing fan in the office. He earns cool points in my book for that.

Also gotta agree with Ryan on the cockpit view dislike. Forget realism...in video games you can't get the proper feeling of where your car's body is in such a view, so you're just sitting behind the wheel with no "seat-of-the-pants" sensation. I prefer the roof/fascia camera in most sim racing games for that reason.

Shift looks interesting. Might have to try the demo.

Is it me or does it seem like there are some framedrops?

Posted by ColumnBreaker

I think I could get into this.

Posted by zombie2011

Wow so this is what a shitty Forza would be like. Could they copy more shit from Forza.

Posted by dagas

I doubt it can compete with Forza 3 because that will be awesome. Although in terms of sales the NFS name is probably enough to sell a million copies.

Edited by Seppli

Oh boy - you really ought to let Drew do the driving and Ryan do the talking. Would have worked way better I think. Drew seemed like a pretty decent race car driver in the Dirt 2 Quick Look.

And please let somebody review the game, who actually uses the cockpit view, since it is one of the main selling points for Shift. I really want to know, how much of a differece (or not) it makes. The cockpit view is always more immersive and offers an improved sense of speed. I hope, that Shift does 1up the competition in this regard. Just as EA touted it would.

Anyways - much love for your Quick Looks guys. It's just such an honest format. Uncovering long loading times in real time and such - just like you should!

What exactly are they copying from Forza? By that logic then you could say Forza copied from Gran Turismo. It's competition and it's good for games.

I love the floppy disk symbol when it saves.

Posted by Hamst3r

It looks pretty good, but I'm probably gonna pass on this one. Miles of flat asphalt do nothing for me and this looks like it has a lot of that.

For me, there is little appeal in just driving - just racing on tracks. I gotta have something beyond that to really get into a racing game. I wish they would have continued from where Most Wanted left off. The cop chases were the best!

I can't wait for DiRT 2 to be released. :D

Drew reminds me of my wife's doctors. The way he talks, calm, wanting to understand the situation, very direct with his questions. Doctor Drew... yeah, Doctor Drew.

I'm talking about all the assists they have, and i know for a fact gran turismo didn't have those thats why I couldn't get into it.

NICK CAGE QUOTES FTW!

You mean the racing line? That's something that just about every racing game is including nowadays like Grid, Forza 2, GT5, NFS, ect. in the same way that many FPS games adopted regenerating health. It's going to become a standard and it shouldn't put you off just because the idea originated from another game. If you mean that it has more optional assists then what are you complaining about? It's a good thing that you get more options!
Posted by Earthborn

Forza clone? Or it's flashier little brother?

It's funny that even with dicking around so much in that final race, Ryan managed to get first. =\

I dunno, looks a little too shallow for me.  Looks a little floaty and I don't think a harder mode will fix that much, that's just a personal thing I have though.. Hm.

The guys who made this game also made GTR2 and GT Legends, both of which were substantially better than Forza. They didn't really "Copy" much.
And Forza didn't invent assists, they've been in most sim-ish racing games for years.
Posted by Durandal377

Does this mean we can expect Drew to be involved with the Forza 3 Quick Look as well? Because that would be swell.
Hey, rhyme. That was unintentional, I promise.

Posted by Superfred

Trailers made this game look really good but this quick look has shown me i dont need/want this game. Looks awful.

Posted by trimon

Wow I didn't believe the commercials but damn that is one fine looking game.

Posted by Sarumarine

So is Drew still considered an intern? Or a racing game consultant? Maybe both? It's working out so far.

Edited by LosDub

the racing line has been around since the 1st Forza game which came out in 2005
Posted by BlondeBrigade

Yayyyy Drew!  Glad to see you out and about.

Posted by Akeldama

the only thing that looks better in this game (speaking 100% about graphics) than GT5 is the sense of speed. The sense of speed looks fucking fantastic.

Edited by Scooper

I don't normaly use the cockpit view I like the bonnet view.

This game looks like ass. The drifting looks like it's locked in 1 position it doesn't look fluid at all.

Posted by 88Fingers

I had hopes for this game but not anymore.
It looks ridiculously boring!

Ugh! Bring on Forza 3

Posted by babz

im a hardcore racing fan and i like the behind the car view to cant stand the in car view! but bonnet view like in GT is good for being precise. so im with you on this Ryan.

Posted by Metal_Mills

Was the framerate just janky in the vid or in-game?

Not the Quick Look, just the game.

Haha, gotta love the console gaming only ignorance. Cracks me up. SO many things that come to the consoles are then touted as being revolutionary. When generally speaking, most of the "revolutionary" game features stem from PC games of old.

Online gaming comes to mind. Everyone freaked out with all the matchmaking options and abilities in games such as Halo when us PC gamers were playing for free with all those options and more many years before.

Here's an idea, instead of trying to compare games just enjoy them. Who gives a shit who did what first? It's about who does it better. That being said, Shift looks fun, and it'll be the first NFS since High Stakes I've had any real interest in.

Tell him son.
what the fuck are you talking about!! forza been around for a few years flipping f1 grand prix for the n64 had auto braking, racing lines!! and the only assist the forza got that GT hasnt is auto braking. you dont know nothing! thats the only fact i know. because if you cant brake for yourself em............... a......... heres a tip: maybe you shouldn't be playing racing games.

I think I'm going to get either this or Forza this year, and I'm going back and forth on both. This game nails the sense of speed really well, because I love getting behind a car and fighting it to push it to its limits to make it go really fast. What I've seen of Forza definitely makes it look like the superior game, but I can't shake the feeling Shift is the game I'll enjoy more.

The past few Need for Speed games have truly let me down.  Being a fan of racing games, I am really looking forward to this game.  I will purchase it right away! :)

Posted by Valru

looks very meh.. interface is gross

Posted by DreamAgain

You really have to play this game in the cockpit view to experience it.  The graphics are amazing, the sense of speed is amazing.  This game is simply amazing, the only drawback is the longevity of the game.  Thi saint no gran turismo with 5000 cars lol.

I thought it was made known months ago that Drew is officially part of the GB staff, not an intern. I keep seeing the question pop up everywhere.

He was hired onto the team, he does a lot of the video stuff on the site along with Vinny.

I REALLY wanted to see what this game was like from the cockpit view. I think with the camera pulled out its not as immersive, but to each his own. Like Drew said they were really pushing the cockpit view though so im kind of really disappointed it wasn't played that way. The way the game is meant to be played is from the cockpit view.
