I really like the design for the title.

Played a bit of this yesterday for a review, it's pretty good, visually it is beautiful and the music is even better, the game can be a little frustrating at times though.

Ooh, a new Breaking Brad video :o

So close... Sad face.

You were first, but you don't get the quest if your post has "first" in it.

This game drove me crazy.

I like difficult games, but this seems frustrating and hard in a bad way.

Everything else like the art style and music seems great, though.

Oh look, a new "whimsical indie puzzle-platformer." How original. Let's go shit on Medal of Honor some more.

At least it doesn't have old 8bit or 16bit graphics so it wouldn't get a 5/5

Except indie platformers all play very differently and are actually challenging. Don't wipe your ass before you've taken a shit.

Brad makes every game seem 5 times harder than it is, though.

Played a couple of hours and i'm not feeling it. The idea is fun but the gameplay just isn't. Like Brad said you die so quickly so exploration really feels like something you shouldn't do and the bosses are a joke (how are you supposed to know that this butler guy will suddenly insta-kill you when you do the same thing that was necessary before?)

I think the music is pretty boring and it just misses some variety. Still a nice game but if you are interested I'd wait for the Steam Xmas Sale.

It seems to have some pretty original components, like the art style, and the gravity well mechanic is neat. The puzzle platformer genre certainly has enough unique games in it to differentiate themselves from each other, certainly something more so than military FPSses. It's crazy to me that this genre seems to be the newest one that people are tired of seeing for one reason or another.

The thing that really gets me is that I see the explosion of this indie platformer genre (and things like Kickstart-ed games, etc.) as something that has happened due to the way that the games market has moved financially - where it seems like B-tier (and I mean this from a budget, advertising, etc. aspect, not quality) games suffer in the sales department (Darksiders, Sleeping Dogs, etc.), and only AAA and smaller titles seem to do well, respective to their budgets. It's probably easier to design and implement a 2D platformer, especially with constrained resources, compared to a lot of other genres.

Something like MoH gets a lot of flak (at least from me) because they actually have the resources to do something better and more interesting, and choose not to.

Don't blame the game brad.

Edited by whatisdelicious

@RVonE: It was just uncharacteristically jaded from everybody but Vinny. They seemed like they were relishing every opportunity to shit on every part of the game. I loved the part on the podcast this week where Vinny was trying to just get Brad to finally say that the game's actually totally fine; it's just a victim of some people being tired of the style of shooter. At that point, now you're telling me I shouldn't play a game because you're tired of the genre. That's not helpful. It's not constructive. It's just taking out frustrations on a game that doesn't deserve it.

It's exactly the same thing as my comment in my original post complaining about another indie platformer, and how a fair amount of users are responding by defending it. Just because I'm tired of indie platformers doesn't mean Pid is a bad game.

Brad played fine. I spent like 1 hour on that asshole boss and the second one is even worse

@beard_of_zeus: The reason why I'm tired of indie platformers is because they all feel the same to me. One unique gimmick and the art style is all that seems to separate them. Indie devs can do so much more. There are plenty of fantastic indie games that avoid falling into the rut of "oh, another indie platformer," like Octodad. That game was brilliant. Medal of Honor had more resources, yeah, but remember that with more resources comes more risk. Triple-A games can't base the entire experience off of one gimmick like indie games can.

Regardless, the reason I said that is because I knew people were going to disagree with me, and that's the point. Just because I'm tired of indie platformers doesn't mean Pid is bad or the genre is bad. It's exactly the same thing with Medal of Honor.

not the game for me i think.. way too punishing..

As someone who doesn't like platformers, for some reason this has me super interested.

Why have Giant Bomb started doing 2 quick looks per game? Not enough interesting titles to go around?

Posted by JackSukeru

I'm pretty sure you could take more than one hit in Bionic Commando:Rearmed, in fact you could get more hit points in the original as well. There were also three separate items that you could get that absorbed a hit each.

The bloom and the style of the energy bars in this game definetly remind me of Rearmed, as do the bosses.

This game is awesome. And it's loooooong!

If you like charming and challenging in the same sentence, grab it.

Possibly the most unique art style I've ever seen, and the best this year from any game.

Also, most intense chest opening ever:

They haven't. This is a rarity. Out of the hundreds and hundreds of quick looks they've done, there's like, at most, 10 games with 2 quick looks.

Man nobody is going to defend POD? Don't pretend you never rocked out to Boom or Alive! Wonder what Patrick listens to, probably way into Coldplay and kings of leon

Posted by EchoEcho

I'm beginning to think the crew's secret objective is to make me feel like a terrible person for liking music that they don't. Personally disliking something shouldn't mean it's universally "terrible" or that people who like it have "bad taste" -- they just have different tastes. Just... very off-putting. I didn't even feel like watching the rest of the Quick Look after that.

"Not that I care about achievements..."

Nah. You obviously care about achievements. Otherwise you wouldn't bring it up.

Also: this is a puzzle platformer. Of course it's got one-hit kills. Play more games.

This game is perfect for an Endurance Run.

Just seems like they did it a couple more times fairly recently, or maybe it's just my failing memory.

Seems to happen when they take looks at early/demo builds of games in a normal or EX quick look, followed by another go once the game is properly released.

Well, I guess I should have added "If my memory serves right" to my original post because it doesn't feel like they've done this a lot. Then again, my memory isn't anything to brag about either lol

Nope, I've been playing the demo and the game is indeed very punishing and frustrating. It often requires you to use the gravity beams to get to out of reach places which is in itself a cool thing. But placing and navigating the beams is unnecessarily frustrating and difficult. The game might get better once you get the slingshot but I've decided not to bother trying to get that far (it might not be in the demo). For those who like a challenge don't mind a lot of trial and error and have plenty of time on their hands this might be the perfect game. But I can't say I've enjoyed the time I've spent with this game and I'm not prepared to waste more time on it. So for me it's a no-buy.

Jesus Brad, just let the little enemies during the boss fight go! Why keep trapping them before they run past you? Let them get out of the way. ARRRGHHH

Posted by exilajei

It looks derivative of Little Big Planet in quite a few ways...

This game looks really frustrating and boring. I think I'll skip this ...

it's not that hard brad!

It's unbelievable how they never know how much anything costs. I mean come on guys do your job.

Posted by Osaladin

I don't know when I made the jump, but I just can't seem to get behind really difficult games anymore. Probably because I have less and less time to play games, I don't want to spend them hating myself. Looks cool though.
