Zombies with guns? The zombie apocalypse is getting more and more dangerous.

They're not zombies; J'avo are RE6's ganado/majini iteration.

I had a feeling that was the case.

Also, NO ONE CARES what fake name they came up with because they don't want to call them zombies.

But in a franchise that was once dominated by zombies, and then removed them and then brought them back, it matters a whole lot more now to point out that there's a clear distinction. Ganado/Majini/J'avo are not zombies, simple as.

This looks so dark. Not story wise, but holy shit there is like no lighting. Also unless I see differently, this demo totally unsold me on this game.

I think you missed my point.

NO ONE CARES.

That camera is something else, almost gave me motion sickness just by watching this ql, it's really close over the shoulder and the framerate is poor.

My God this looks like shit too me. I didn't want Gears of Modern Resident Evil 6. Fuck you Capcom, you ruined once my favorite franchise.

To try to balance out the no-doubt rampant negativity, I'll say a few nice things. Check youtube for a more recent build of the game that was shown off at Comic con - the screen tearing wasn't noticeable at all, while it was rampant in the 360 demo (this may just be a platform thing though, the MT framework engine typically has low FPS on PS3 but screen tearing issues on 360 ....choose your posion). Those that have dug into the demo files have also found that there will be an option to customize the camera position - though the extent of which is unknown. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that you can change the aiming reticule back to the laser sight, and even customize the colour (why not!). Having looked at the scenarios in the demo files..we're in for quite a ride. My big worry is still that it will be too action-heavy and QTE dependent, but the my overall outlook is positive.

By ''customize the camera position'', I imagine that's the option that allows you to switch which shoulder you aim with, right to left. Also it's not rampant negativity; I've listed out a lot of the good and the bad for RE6 already =X

That camera is waaaaaaaaaaaay to fucking close.

After playing the demo last night, I came to the conclusion that I want capcom to zoom out the camera.

GET BENT!...but yeah, you're totally right, he is. Suspected it at "What the Hell?!" Looked it up and it is, in fact, Troy Baker.

Posted by Yummylee

@NickL: In what capacity? Given how there is, again, an obviously clear distinction between regular zombies and the ganado/majini/ja'vo, I imagine a lot of people do in fact care.

But whatever, be overly reductive if you must, that's your prerogative.

The Leon sections are more tailored to the "Horror" part of the game.

Kind of want the whole game like that.

Don't expect even Leon's to carry on that sort of tone and pacing for very long. Judging by the trailer's, Leon's story will quickly hit the same sort of wavelength as Chris' and Jake's.

I of course can't say for certain, but despite all of the promotion about each campaign will feature its own distinct gameplay style ect., I imagine they all eventually round up to the fast-paced sort of stuff before too long. Only main difference will be the setting and more than likely what weapons you have access to.

Yeah, note that Leon was the star of that big ridiculous helicopter-crash QTE sequence shown at Microsoft's E3 conference.

Well that's unfortunate, put zombies back in and let Visceral develop the game. (then again looking at Dead Space 3 maybe don't)

Posted by vorpalparasite

I love the shit out of RE4, enjoyed 5, and I like the demo of 6, it has it's issues of course but alas I continue to be a fan.

Also I did not die when running towards the screen on my first try (it was kinda close! but I made it).

Posted by NickL

@Yummylee: I'll revise then. Only big resident evil fans care.

Stop being annoying and correcting people that call them zombies though, because your average person doesn't care.

Posted by alibson

I hate games that zoom in the camera when you hit a wall.

I hate all third person games ever.

Posted by Verdy

This QL was terrible.

And come on Jeff. You're talking shit about the direction with the Resident Evil series while you can't even remember the basics about RE5.

Posted by Vegetable_Side_Dish
@Yummylee: Thanks, that's a nice balanced summary of the demo, but unfortunately an outlier amidst the hate this game is receiving elsewhere. I haven't watched the QL yet anyway so I'll see for myself.

I'm glad this game is shit, it shows that they shouldn't have listened to everyone complaining about not being able to walk and shoot. FU guys.

600 people working on this game, and for what... yet another cover-based shooter. Yawwnn.

Horrible analogy.

The reaction to the new Tomb Raider has been mixed at best. So not only are you inaccurate in your assessment of the situation, you also invoke the super lame "people are sheep" because you perceive your opinion to be unpopular.

Thumbs down.

Posted by lightsoda

I used to love Resident Evil, and to me, it was never about the shooting. Thinking back on when I first saw screens and videos of RE4, it had an atmosphere, look and feel that far surpassed the previous games.

Focusing more on running and gunning is just the wrong direction for me.

I don't think this game is '' shit ''. It's an action game, and people need to get used to it. They're not going back to full-on horror, it doesn't sell well. They said it like, in 2007. I'm quite eager to play the full product. I liked the demo.

Posted by Sammo21

Not trying to be mean, but Brad comes off as so clueless when you see him play during quick looks. Must be the size of the TV they are on or something.

Posted by Yummylee

@NickL: le siiiiiiiigh... But there is a significant difference between the two ffs. Y'know, just to throw out the most obvious, zombies don't use guns. They're a completely different sort of opposition, and it's silly to be so reductive like ''EVERYTHING BE ZOMBIES''.

You shouldn't need to be a ''big RE fan'' to understand that. It'd be like someone, for example, rounding up all ranged units across all factions in a Starcraft game as ''Marines''.

Posted by Bulby33

I've really liked the Resident Evil franchise for a long time (I even enjoyed Resident Evil 5 quite a bit) but man... this game looks awful. Just plain bad.

Edited by Rabid619

I really wish they would've played through the Leon section more, it's the only part I had any real interest in seeing. The Chris section looked... meh. I don't really want that much shooter in my Resident Evil, it's going even beyond Dead Space levels at that point.

Edit: Just watched a playthrough of the Leon section on Youtube and man, that looked great. Seems like this game might be a real mixed bag.

Doing something new with Lara Croft that MIGHT be interesting if done right.

Repeating the same tired formula that Resident Evil has been doing.

Totally the same thing.

PS no one wants RE to die i don't think. I just want it to try something new, or hey, here's a weird idea, go back to its roots and stop being a shooter that isn't scary at all.

I hate to be that guy because I love RE4 and thought RE5 was good but not great(terrible story even by RE standards) but this is not Resident Evil anymore.

This is the unfortunate truth. They've explicitly stated that they've trying to reel in the Call of Duty crowd and hit those sorts of numbers, so it's easy to figure out why RE6 is what it is.

I would love for RE to revert back to the slower pace, with exploration, ammo conservation and the like, but that's clearly not what CAPCOM have in mind and I've come to terms with that. Problem with RE6 is is that it's not even a very good shooter. If they're going to action the series up to such ridiculous degrees, the least they could do is design some decent shooting.

Edited by Xiemos2

@Yummylee: Coming from someone who knows absolutely nothing about RE; they're undead, slow moving, trying to eat you in melee, pale skin, different mutations (a la l4d zombies)... pretty sure they're zombies. Who says zombies can't use guns?

Probably just adding my voice to the chorus at this point, but I'm really not interested in Resident Evil unless they're going to make a serious attempt at a horror game again. I wish they would. It would be nice to have a larger developer still messing around with the genre.

Holy fuck. Is the FoV set to like 25?

This can't be comfortable even for consolers.

Posted by Orange_Pork

@Liquidus: The fact that this isn't Resident Evil anymore is pretty much the only reason why I'm interested in it. I tried going back and playing the first three games again recently. It bored me to tears.

Posted by Yummylee

@Xiemos2: They're not undead, they're not trying to eat you, and the reason why zombies can't use guns is such a notable differentiator is because specifically RE zombies don't use guns. There are very clear distinctions between the zombies of the series and the ganado/majini/ja'vo, including the increased intelligence and their ability to work together ect.

It's all well and good to be ignorant of the series, but if someone makes a mistake when talking about the series, I don't see what's so wrong for me to explain the difference.

As someone who did love RE5, this looks like complete garbage.

Posted by jozzy

I played Resident Evil 4 for the first time when it came out as the HD remake for the 360, and I still thought it was a great game. I really liked the deliberate controls, the really cohesive invironments en atmosphere, looking everywhere for items and ammo, upgrading your weapons, even the inventory "tetris".

That game still holds up extremely well as far as I can say, great balance of action and horror.

You know, they're suppose to slowly paced survival horror games, right? If that ain't your thing, than you're not gonna enjoy it that much and probably not even enjoy RE4.

Oh, so this is that Giraffe-man getting a blowjob from a woman game I've been hearing about.

I think you guys just saved me 60 bucks.

Looks like it could be fun, really seems like you would have to have some hands-on time to properly judge it. I liked RE2 but I am not the biggest fan of the franchise so I don't mind them taking the series into the direction they're headed.

I do wonder why they don't create a spin-off series, set in a tone similar to the first 3 games, to appease dissenters; that way they can have their super mainstream high-selling game while building goodwill with old fans.

Yeah what kind of what said. It's a fresh new take on Lara Croft which has everyone interested not what said. I would say it's like the Dead Space syndrome where the game's sequels continue to run away from what made the initial game(s) great. The franchise doesn't need to die, but just needs a break or a new developer for a different take on it.

The screen tearing is really bad from what I've seen.

That wesker thing was an exact copy of last boss of Uncharted 2. Same shit, same thing of not knowing if you actually damage him with bullets, same shitty camera, same shitty shit. Really a good choice for a boss fight, making it the worst thing in Uncharted 2.
