I completely disagree with Patrick in regards to off-TV play. Well, not completely, it's a great feature, but requiring every game to implement it? Terrible idea.

No game would ever use the gamepad in an interesting way, because the game would need to function without the second screen. And if the Wii U cant offer unique experiences with its controller, what would be the point to even owning one? It's weird to me that someone who considers ZombiU one of their favourite games of last year would want to completely marginalise the thing that provides the WiiU the opportunity to be unique and offer new experiences.

I was just coming down here to say that. It's a weird oversight of what makes the WiiU unique, and it's surprising that he'd want to completely lose what makes the system special just for convenience.

@zenmastah: me too, something about the quicklooks lately has been feeling off to me.

I hate Patrick and he sucks and he used the word "harken" in a quick look.

..am I doing this right?

Bad quick look to make a sarcastic point, because I think most people really enjoyed this one

I hope all Wii U quick looks end with the Miiverse.

60 fps on Wii U?

Edited by RoBear

Mighty Switch Force HD is my only WiiU game right now. Thanks Pat and Vinny for showing me another one worth buying!

That's an awful name. I really hope we're getting out of this hipster bullshit naming-things-ironically phase soon.

Why would anyone report that guy? Commander Video is black, and how do YOU know he's not naked?

@patrickklepek you could glide in runner 1 actually.

Lets all remember what Jeff said about people who state a fact then say "actually."

Just to go with what @patrickklepek was talking about Runner being more of a Rhythm/Music game and not really a visual game, here's a video of a blind guy absolutely dominating this game (Runner 1)...amazing video

That is so awesome, that has me wondering how many games there are for blind people, a text based adventure completely spoken would be awesome.

EDIT: Holy crap, he is playing though Ocarina of Time.

That was really enlightening.

I'm guessing Proteus with the interactive music on every object might be suited for the blind.

I am 100% for MiiVerse shenanigans at the end of all Wii U quick looks! YEAH!

Game looks super good, I enjoyed the first one quite a bit. Glad to see things like checkpoints and being able to access the bonus levels on the world map. And I think they've done an excellent job adding score hooks into the experience.

Now I'm just trying to decide if I want to get this now or hold out for the Vita version this summer.

Edited by Orange_Pork

Every time you try to turn off the Wii U, exit out of the game, exit to Miiverse and return to the Wii U menu, or anything that would result in this game software closing, the Wii U hard freezes. ANd the only way to unfreeze it is to physically unplug the Wii U.

I don't understand how that happens. You'd think at some point in the game's development someone would have attempted to close the software.

That fish is packin, great QL guys.

I want that stupid "yeah!"-System implemented here on Giantbomb!

It doesn´t actually have to do anything, just let me yeah some stuff. Exactly the positive attitude this site needs!

Edited by MrL8N

I'm sure the game is 60fps on WiiU. They're not going to put up a 60fps video, the file size would be crazy. Gonna pick this up today I loved the first one. Also fish balls.

You offended PAtrick by asking for the naked bit-triper Vinny. You sexist.

I need updates on how many Yeahs Patrick has for his sweet drawing!

It looked 8bit, not 16.

Edited by Jason_E_Sigler

@romination: I don't think having one negates the other. While not revolutionary in its implementation, AC3 allows for map and such on the Gamepad but also can do Off-TV, so both are possible. I have no idea how hard it is to use this feature in a game, but surely it's pretty easy?

yeah, I'm gonna go out on a limb, and say that Commander Videos character design (or lack thereof) plays horribly in polygon form.

"He would call something hot garbage and then walk away."

Vinny knows what's up.

Loving this game so far. I just got the last world, and wow is it pretty.

The retro stages in the first runner were very clearly riffing on Pitfall! for the Atari 2600, even down to gaving the Gaijin logo merged with a rainbow and visible at all times on the bottom of the screen.

This game's retro stages look like Wonder Boy running on a Sega Master System, though the cartridges are clearly famicom cartridges, and the "Winning Congratulation!!" message definitely betrays an 8-bit Japanese design.

Both games do kind of fudge it a bit, though.

You guys should definitely end all the Wii U quicklooks this way. Spread dem yeahs.

KnucklesSonic8 is posting gameplay tips on Miiverse, and he's also the guy who talked me into buying the game. I asked him about the 8, but he hasn't responded yet.

His profile says he's a freelance writer from Canada.

This same guy was playing through Ocarina of Time. He has a video where he goes through what exactly he's looking for as he plays it. It's insane.

This game's great, but I have no idea where to focus my eyes.

Patrick goes COMPLETE hipster regarding checkpoints in this game. "I was happy when this game was only for masochists!"

Edited by kerikxi

Not usually a Patrick hater, but as Jeff has already pointed out to him before, making the gamepad remote play thing a requirement would have 100% eliminated any unique uses of the interface. His favorite game for the platform, ZombiU, would not exist and never could have existed with this requirement. Yes it's a nice feature and it's great when games support it, but please stop acting like it should be mandatory.

Vinny status: Confirmed.

Also, US Super Mario Bros. 2 theme music really makes me wish Nintendo would do another one of those!

Posted by toastface

I have been thinking really hard about getting a WiiU recently, but seeing the comments about "not out in Europe" on the Miiverse makes me think Nintendo has learned nothing about store content. I have a 3DS, and being in Australia means massive delays for games on the 3ds shop, if we get them at all, at super inflated prices.

I'm re-thinking now.

Posted by joeshabadoo

@orange_pork: It hasnt happened a single time for me yet. I've hit the home button from the main menu and the map & level select screens, and the hit close software and nothing happened.

That said, it does exist and the patch is already in Nintendo's hands

Agreed... The system's only really unique feature at this point now is how the two screens can interact with one another. Just boiling it down to "Hey, you can also just kinda play this on the Gamepad" is convenient, but is hardly an inspired use of the platform.
