I thought the Latin was cool, then I realised it was a furry bullet hell game. Fuck that.

Finally.

That is, in fact, Hungarian. God, I wish I could use my knowledge of it more often, but as it turns out, nobody really cares about we Hungarians.

Seriously nice looking game.

1200 points worth? Dont think so. Maybe if it was 800 or 560

@joshthebear: I was thinning the same thing, after listening to the Podcast i couldn't wait to check it out :-)

Posted by destruktive

90 minutes is too long for a shmup. :( But I will try it anyway

STG = shooting game. It's the term the Japanese use for shoot 'em ups.

Brad being bad at a game? Surprise Surprise

Posted by beard_of_zeus

I'm really intrigued by the story elements of this game (plus I love how it looks), and I like the gameplay part well enough, so I think I'll pick this up.

It's very cool to see a developer (well, 2 of them in this case) actually spend some effort on the trappings around the gameplay for a game in a niche genre like this. On one hand, I wonder if the people playing games in this genre even care about those details; based on the usual things like ships made out of young girls, I would guess 'no'. Maybe that's why the developers usually spend around zero time on that.

But I would imagine there's gotta be some subset of people (and I would count myself as being in it) that would be more willing to play shmups if they had a little more substance to them, and perhaps that's what they were trying to do here.

@jukezypoo: Nonsense, we Finns do! Yay for Finno-Ugric languages!

Funny fact: as a Finn if I hear Hungarian being spoken "in the background" (like announcements in a train station or whatever) and an I'm not paying attention to it, I often do like an aural double take to make sure that they weren't speaking Finnish! Sounds familiar, just none of the words make sense. Kinda the same with the Quick Look just now.

Sounds like theyre recording in a cathedral. I like it

Posted by PerfidiousSinn

@beard_of_zeus: I rarely play shmups because I'm bad at them, but I'm downloading this because I've heard very good things about the story.

I really like the style - even the menus, in engine stuff of course and the cutscenes, transitions and world design. The story seems weird, unique and could potentially go places even though I don't have a good sense of the general scope yet obviously. But I'm rarely into this type of Shooter; I think I finished one obscure beginner-friendly game (Jets'nGuns or something like that?) during my entire life so far. Might have something to do with me sucking horribly at them though.

Really? that looks pretty hard I'd have died more times than he did stop naggin' Brad for just playing games.

I've watched Werckmeister Harmonies and that certainly sounds like Hungarian to me.

also, this looks fucking hard, especially if you're not some sort of bullet hell aficionado

STG = Shoot that guy. Ask Gary Whitta

I was just making a joke :/

I saw this was a bullet hell game and my mind turned off because I have yet to play one that I like more than Ikaruga.

Posted by Wikitoups

i nominate this to daves eastern bloc award

Edited by SomeJerk

The time element makes me want to play this real bad but hey apparently I'm on a platform not popular for shooter fans..

..Could it be because they're all going to the 360 for some reason, many of them becoming 360 exclusives?!

Yes.

Sorry G-Hop.

*burns $400 on a Darius motherfucking Gaiden PCB, gets back into collecting fucking arcade games*

ps: A good joystick makes shmups far more fun. You want to be able to pixel by pixel tap your positions

The only words I know in Hungarian is paprika & goulash. Game itself on the shooting looks okay, story part just seems rather strange on it's tone from the QL/GB crew.

This is a trap I'm not going to fall into, yet again. Too many times I've gotten a game cause it had an intriguing story only to realize that the gameplay, which I cannot stand, is ruining any enjoyment I could get out of it.

Silent Hill 2/3 are my main offenders here.

I'm totally down for playing this. Aside from the game play, the story and the characters seem really interesting.

Posted by artofwar420

Looks really slick, except I'm terrible at shmuppets.

Soo much Latin gahhh nerdgasm

Posted by Otzlowe

@jukezypoo: I do! I'm quite proud of my Hungarian ancestry and I'm attempting to teach myself the language, despite the complete lack of popularity here in America. Hearing about Hungarian stuff is always a treat for me, because it's so rare.

I think that's very smart, Brad emphasizes that in the QL a couple times - stay away if you don't like the gameplay part. I'm more in the camp of "I like 2D shooters even though I'm not the best at them, but I usually don't play them because they have ships made out of schoolgirls or witches most of the time". I think the last shmup I genuinely enjoyed was Ikaruga. I downloaded Sine Mora after watching this video, and have been playing it for a little bit, and so far, it seems like it's gonna end up on that shortlist with Ikaruga.

As someone who speaks Hungarian, Finnish has the same effect on me!
