Kinda comes off as a game which Condemned wanted to be but this kind of no-action-game wasn't really a thing back then. If they were to make Condemned today I'm pretty sure it'd be a whole lot like this.

And less beating hobos to death with your hands.

I agree. I loved the atmosphere, graphical style and sound design of Condemned, but I got REALLY tired of the monotonous combat after a couple hours.

I feel like the whole "oh man to turn on the generator you have to do this this and this" thing in horror games has gotten kinda old. It just feels like their padding out the game by making things that should be trivial take way longer than they should.

Posted by crusader8463

The bit with the power room is why I find these kind of games dumb. He tracks the guy into a dead end room and when he "disappears" the bad guy only opens one of the two only places someone could be hiding in. Then he just shrugs and walks off. I get why they have to do it for game design reasons, but it completely takes me out of the game. At that point it just becomes a game where you have to run to a hiding spot and you know it's safe.

Don't go in there Patrick!

Patrick would make a terrible nurse. He sees someone in a wheelchair twitching and he's too scared to help?!

It's a horror video game. You help nobody. You don't go into spooky houses. You don't ask "who's there?"

Posted by CodeFire

Ahhh, this is great!

Please continue to play this game on video. Please? :D

I like that the character in this game has an actual body that you can see when you look down. More games should have that.

Aside from that, once the lights went out and the "scares" started, it just reminded me of hiding from the Raincoat Killer in Deadly Premonition, so I think I will pass on this game. And I say this as one of DP's biggest supporters.

Posted by Grixxel

Please don't use scare cam ever again during gameplay. It's fine when you're addressing your audience, but having a shot of you reacting to the game is just insulting to the their intelligence.

People aren't babies, Patrick. Get rid of that terrible Pewdiepie gimmick before it's too late.

I'm not sure how you relate people being able to see him is somehow a jab at any viewer's intelligence. But since you're just being a dick about it, feel free to not watch these.

think I'm getting tired of the whole "crazy religious dude worships whatever it is then will probably die when it turns on them".....motif

Looks cool, to bad I dont have the balls to actually play these kind of games.

Posted by reelife

That's pretty cool, when patrick was down in the basement and was hiding for that... well monster, it didn't open the locker he was in, he TOTALLY opened my fucking locker.

@patrickklepek Thanks Patrick for pointing this game out & doing a quick look for it. Game looks bloody fun & should be a good pair with the Amnesia sequel.

Edited by hidden81

cool quick look.

Edited by ZmillA

Hmm I'm honestly not sure if I'm going to be able to handle this. I had to quit the game shortly after the first jump scare.

Edited by elpurplemonkey

@patrickklepek: Patrick, don't listen to the guy who told you to get rid of the scare cam. That's the best part! Spookin' wouldn't be Spookin' without it.

Also this game is terrifying, looking forward to seeing it on the next Spookin' with Scoops. I'm picturing a night where you play a level of this and the new Amnesia- that might finally top white face.

Posted by jiggajoe14

I wish I wasn't such a wimp because this looks awesome lol.

Posted by Excast

@patrickklepek Nice video. You certainly are churning out a lot of quality content. And don't feel any need to change your set up just because a few people have to complain about everything.

@patrickklepek: Keep the camera in the corner, it's part of the fun of watching you play these games.

My natural suspicion when people put a camera on themselves while playing scary games is, "Are they just hamming it up?" I wonder what percentage of the "scary game reaction" cams on YouTube (and there are a ton of them) are more performance pieces than genuine reactions.

I guess it's my word against yours, but everything in these videos is 100% genuine. It's why I wait until late at night, it's dark, and everyone is asleep. To each their own, though!

I trust your word, Patrick.

I don't think you were there when Kiefer Sutherland fell on me, my friend.

SWS is the only thing I've ever felt it was necessary for. I usually don't like it, but with the live chat and set-up, it's nice. Not sure about pre-recorded stuff.

So a camera capturing your face, while you're playing a game......is a gimmick. Never mind that every streamer ever does it. It's good to see a face that is talking, because it's like hanging out in person. Since this is a 1 person quicklook, the addition of a facecam gives it a dynamic it wouldn't have otherwise.

Read some reviews at work today and immediately thought, "Man, I can't wait to watch Patrick play this". Endurance run, perchance?

Posted by skipper00

@patrickklepek These are easily my favourite videos on the site. Keep up the good work!

P.S keep the face cam.

Edited by granderojo

Patrick please keep the face cam. Also if you play through all of this on spookin' with scoops I'd love you forever. I'll buy a copy, but I can never put myself through the torment of actually playing it myself. This was great, fuck I nearly spilt my drink when I jumped when you had the dude jump out at you.

Edited by Sweetz

Horror games where you can't fight back are too scary for me, but I enjoy (and can just barely handle) watching Patrick play them. The run while looking backwards thing is brilliant.

I was happy to learn that Routine is going to have weapons in some limited capacity, because 80s vision sci-fi is super up my alley. I hope Patrick gets an early look at that at some point.

Posted by bvilleneuve

Awesome! I read the RPS write-up about this earlier today and felt intrigued. Now this video pops up, and the game looks great. I'll pick it up eventually.

On a little bit of a side note, has anybody played Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth? This video reminded me of that game. That's another one of those early modern horror games that would have been much better if combat-free horror was an accepted thing back when it came out.

I don't like it. Not everyone does it and then people who do seem to have less to offer than the people who don't. It might be just because they're more popular, so they're appealing to a broader audience, but that's my experience with it.

For horror games, face cam makes perfect sense to me. This was a great QL!

Posted by smatticus

yeahhhhhhhhh i got to the basement and had to take a break. my heart can only take so much

Posted by Korosuzo

I rarely comment on videos but caught a few responses that I wanted to agree with. I actually like the cams in these instances (horror games) as it is that much more fun to see how someone is reacting to the situations.

You probably aren't considering removing it but if you are because of some feedback please reconsider. I believe it does bring the situations of the game to us with more impact, especially in solo situations.

Edited by GaspoweR

I want to buy the game to support the devs but...

I DON'T WANT TO PLAY IT. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK THAAAT.

Posted by beepmachine

@patrickklepek This was awesome, well done. I'll echo everyone else as well, keep the scare cam! It makes these videos feel more like an event than just a quick look.

Edited by HerbieBug

I am pro camera for these. Fun quicklook. Not going to play game because I'm too scared of the spoooooooks. O______O

One of these days I'm going to walk into a pristine and sparkly clean bathroom in a horror game and it will freak me out because it's different than all other horror games.

Oh man, that's cool. That kind of thing makes these games REALLY scary... like, as far as I could tell in Amnesia, hiding ALWAYS works. So not knowing if your hiding place will get you killed or not would make things even more tense!

Edited by Chango

Great quick look, Patrick. I think the scare cam makes perfect sense for the horror genre. This isn't a game that I would ever play ( horror games stress me out too much), but like many others, I enjoy watching you go through them.

YEAH THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEED FIRST THING IN THE MORNING THANKS

Or right before I'm about to go to bed in my case :(

Never knew people hated the camera on Patrick so much. It is kind of odd that it is eliciting such strong emotions from some. I don't really see how it would take away from anyone's enjoyment, honestly. I wouldn't actually mind if the rest of the quick looks were done like this. I enjoy watching how the guys react to things on shows like Unprofessional Fridays.

Also, was anyone bummed out that you could seemingly run away from the enemies so easily? It kind of impacts the tension for me. Granted, this is early on and there were hints of stronger enemies, so I wouldn't take this sample as indicative of the whole, but just a minor quibble from me.

My thoughts exactly. Kept waiting for Alma to walk through the glass. This game is scary as hell. Reminds me of Amnesia, and with its release so close to A Machine for Pigs, I hope poor Patrick makes it through the year.

Posted by thebigJ_A

Why does this have to come out right before the new Amnesia? I'm a poor man, and there's no way I'm able to get both just now.

Sorry Outlast, you'll have to wait. Amnesia wins.

@alexandersheen: Don't Jeff and Alex do the same when they are playing a game on their own. You never see people complaining about that.

Thats because they're not designed to show off the player pulling stupid faces whenever there's a jump scare. These scarecam videos have appeared all over YouTube ever since a tall stickman started terrifying some very easily scared people.

Sorry Patrick, but when you introduce something popularised by PewDiePie to Giant Bomb then you should expect some people to have a kneejerk reaction. Obviously if thats what people want, keep doing it but I kind of come here to escape those YT fads. Just my thoughts on this format.

I didn't even know who PewDiePie was until very recently, and certainly didn't start doing Spookin' With Scoops or anything else that I do based on him or anyone else. Having the camera in the corner is certainly a divisive element, but specifically with Spookin' With Scoops, it allows me to communicate directly with the audience and help relay part of the experience. If there was a way to give you the option to flip it off, I definitely would, and I'm certainly open to making changes in the future.

Please don't change it-- I think the vast majority of folks who tune in are a-ok with it.

Personally I love seeing your creepy night-vision face freak out during the game.

I for one appreciate the camera feed. It's not the camera itself that normally bothers me, it's how the people who use it normally act, but you have a very likable presence on screen. You pull it off well.
