Man, this game looks boooooring. The "art style" couldn't be more generic, as well.

Posted by Crippl3

@pyrodactyl: BUT THIS DOESN'T FIT THE BERLIN INTERPRETATION-

oh wait, wrong genre.

Looks OK, but the lack of New Game Plus is a deal-breaker.

This will be on a Steam sale soon enough so I'll pick it up then. This Quick Look actually cooled me on it a little. Still looking forward to trying it though.

Also thank you Based Jeff for not saying fucking Metroidvania and saying the game is like Metroid or SOTN. To hell with that awful term.

Posted by MelonMasher

It's a mindless 90s arcady goodness with a shiny coat of paint. I'll enjoy it for what it is, rather than what it isn't.

Posted by ViciousBearMauling

So play this at a high difficulty maybe? I'm not sure. Might pick it up.

Posted by OneKillWonder_

Played about an hour of this so far and all I have to say is that it's fucking awesome. Just a ton of fun to play, not to mention pretty nice to look at.

Posted by Manhattan_Project

I was looking forward to this but it looks like a boring Shadow Complex... DAMN IT ALL TO HELL

Btw isn't that upgrade screen straight out of Shadow Complex?

Was waiting for this QL. Looks pretty good!

Ain't nothing gonna break my Stride...r.

Yeah, I hate how modern mid-tier 2D games do that. The Flashback remake was another culprit. The original games had more unique aesthetics that were appropriately "grungy," while these new ones are just all sparkly and clean and dull.

Yup. Felt the same during the Flashback Quick Look. Super dull.

I hope that they still have the Jungle and Siberia style levels in this.

I can't imagine a Strider game without robot gorillas, amazon ladies and dinosaurs.

Guys, I know you don't like the term and you're trying really hard not to say it but these types of games are called metroidvanias. Deal with it.

Uhh it's not metroidvania, it's side-scrolling-multi-path-upgrade-driven-exploration-game, your basic SSMPUDEG

You need... THE BLACK MARKETERRRRRRR!

Edited by acidagfc

What's the lore here? Why are there signs and computer screens in Russian?

Edited by Dan_CiTi

Definitely doesn't look as good or inspired as Shadow Complex, Muramasa, or Dust - but still worth playing. It's unfortunate Unreal/Chair never upgraded and put that game out on PC, people would have flocked to it, especially now.

What sucks is that this game doesn't have an end game or good replay value, I feel like these types of games need a shot in the arm in that department.

Edited by MachoFantastico

Like the look of it, have to check this out at some point.

Also, we seriously NEED a new Shadow Complex!

"Your friends have not obtained a leaderboard time."

"You have not obtained a leaderboard time."

"No one has obtained a leaderboard time."

Made me laugh.

Graphically this game looks incredibly bland. I really feel like they should've stylized this somehow like cel-shading.

Yup, this is definitely a video game.

Good lord, could you imagine what the PC mod community would do to that game? Wait, maybe don't. You'll just end up wanting it more :(

Strider 2 on PS1 was one of the favorite games of my youth despite it's own shortcomings. The greatest strength of that game was it's style and the pacing, constantly rendering though foes from one ridiculous setpiece to the next. None of that spirit seems present here....

Posted by rmanthorp

The music is pretty jammin' I don't know if I want this on PC or 360 tho... whiteguyproblems.

Strider 2 is more like the arcade game, whereas I THINK this is intended to play on the nostalgia of the NES version of Strider, i.e. more of an exploration/adventure then set pieces/linear/action. This appears to be more 'metroidvania' then hub world though, so I'm thinking this is the Dark Souls to the NES Strider's Demon's Souls.

STRIDE OR DIE FOR LIFE

STRIDE OR DIE MATERIAL

Edited by HerbieBug

There is an incongruency between Strider's run animation and the actual speed at which he is apparently moving. It looks too slow. Like he's running into a stiff headwind.

I dunno. This looks crappy. Rubbery animation and a lot of half-assery happening in the design. I mean compare this against Bionic Commando: Rearmed, for instance. This Strider has none of that care and dedication to making a really high quality game. Paint by numbers game. I would say cash grab but I don't think this will sell particularly well.

Man, Shadow Complex is so good.

Why was never a sequel? It boggles the mind. World needs more games like this and less crappy shooters

The guys that made Shadow Complex went on to make Infinity Blade.

Infinity Blade makes a lot more money than Shadow Complex did.

I wonder if Chair is disappointed about what they've let themselves become or if the piles of money they are rolling around in keep those feelings at bay.

Brought to you by Stride Gum...r. Wait, I did that wrong. Computer, delete comment.

This is totally the kind of game I want to play right now.

187 Stride or Die!!

I am gonna wait till this goes on sale, just like I did with Shadow Complex.

There are a lot of good reviews for this game already.

After watching this I have lost any interest I had in this game. I don't think I'll pick it up.

Me too. It looks kind of dull.

Yeah, dull is a good way of putting it.

Now when are they going to bring back Viewtiful Joe? That I would love to play!

Posted by namesonkel

I feel like that digital scarf thing is there partly because they thought it was too much of a hassle to make an actual scarf that behaves convincingly. And then they tried this and some guy thought it looked cool, so, digital scarf.

Posted by Vegetable_Side_Dish

Looks really, really easy.

Posted by Mike88

Excuse my language here but the art style looks like SHIT!!!!

I would rather play the sprite version then this dull looking game :P

Jeff is the new Brad.

Edited by axlvandamme

I was looking forward to this video.

Don't worry about loosing that bossfight a couple of times for the video, Jeff. We can all have a Shoemaker day from time to time.

lol

Posted by DayOneAdvantage

I love these kind of games and the this has a great visual style to it, but it looks ridiculously easy.

I thought Shadow Complex was no problem to breeze through, but this is taking it to another level.

Posted by DeXterminator

If ya want the Trophie/Achievement for killing 20 enemies without dying, there is a spot a couple hours into the game where you have to turn off water valves I think. The helicopter enemies come up out of the vents non-stop, just stand there and wack 20 of 'em.

Posted by arimajinn

I have so many cool memories of the Strider arcade game...

Edited by Fattony12000

Makes the game look hype as fuck.

Jeff is catching a case of Brad.
