Pinball!

Edited by Bats

woo heard the lads were quite excited about this.

Cool

Just watching Jeff horribly fail the first table was absolutely hilarious. Keep 'em coming!

Posted by 5eNintendan

I'll never understand pinball in a video game format. Half the fun is smashing the side buttons and shacking the machine while thinking it makes a difference.

Posted by Stahlbrand

Wow, what shitty luck on that first play. Thats the pinball I remember.

Posted by Robaota

This looks great, I absolutely adore virtual pinball, and I have no idea why. A childhood without loose change I guess.

Posted by jhsauls

You guys need to give the Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection some acknowledgement too. It was made up of all real tables and represented them fairly well. I mainly remember trying many times to beat the final part of Medieval Madness and finally doing so after failing on the final section several times.

"All these balls... BALLS!"

- Jeff Gerstmann, Giant Bomb

Posted by RichieJohn

Is it just a resale of the disc based game split into dlc or is it a whole separate game?

Edited by Stahlbrand

Wait, pinball tables are wood?! But the lights and stuff? I always figured they were acrylic or some other glass-like plastic.

I can't think of a place to play real pinball here in shitburg Ontario. I'll have to make it a point to find one next time I'm in a real city.

Posted by Peewi

So where would I go to get this for PC? I found the official site, but it's not very helpful.

Posted by dropabombonit

I LOVE THEM BALLSSSSSS!!!!

Edited by ChrisTobin

I don't know a whole lot about pinball, when Jeff went to the lower level on that first machine, my mind was blown!

It doesn't really make for good Quick Looks either.

Wouldn't make more sense to want to play tables that don't exist in the first place? if you care so much for the real experience of the real tables to prefer them over these

Posted by FatCat1276

@Peewi, the PC version isn't out yet. Right now you can get it for iOS, Android, XBLA, and PSN. The really nice thing about the PSN version is that you buy it once and can play it on both PS3 and Vita, so that's the version to get.

Joke about Balls.

Posted by chilibean_3

I have a family member that owns a Theatre of Magic machine. He did the LED conversion not too long ago and it looks great. Also, have I seen this QuickLook before?

Posted by boylie

Good pin

Posted by 2DArray

Whoa, Theatre of Magic is the pinball machine that I used to play with my dad at Pizza Hut.

Posted by JetForceGemini

I hope Jeff Game Room's this and makes new videos for all the new table releases.

Posted by algertman

Yeah I played that Ripley's in person. It's real awesome.

Reminds me of when I went to the FunSpot while in the US. Got my ass handed to me by Black Knight 2000.

Posted by theMockingNoob

@mijetman: I've got a place down there.

Posted by SPY_6000

Love this game, all goals done and waiting for the first dlc.

Edited by ttocs

This game is actually pretty darn good on the Vita.

Also, the game audio is really low on this video.

Only pinball machine i actively remember is some a-team one where you could somehow play vertical in the background thingie... only managed to get there once and failed miserably :(

Edited by fox01313

The one thing I don't understand about the Ripley's Believe It or Not table is how it doesn't have the save feature on many more modern pinball machines (if you lose the ball quickly) but it's on the Theater of Magic table. Been having fun with this so far but hoping that they patch in something to copy the multiplayer & camera options from Pinball Fx2.

Also the Arabian Nights table (as well as Medieval Madness & Black Night) are in the Williams collection that was put out on the 360 (maybe the other consoles too) if anyone is after a few other digital versions of real tables.

I find something relaxing about Jeff and Co. talking about pinball machines. I really, really hope he does this monthly with new DLC. That would be fantastic.

Posted by rentfn

Oh Man. when were you at pinball wizard. I live down the street from there. I hope you went to suppa's right next door and had some amazing subs!!!

Posted by Mockduck

I love love love the Williams Pinball Hall of Fame collection for the Wii. Using a remote+nunchuck, and nudging the table with swipes left and right, makes it feel extremely authentic. Farpoint also does a great job getting the physics and feel of these tables accurate; playing their collections are almost as good as playing the real thing, and certainly more convenient for most of us.

Can't wait to pick this up for the PS3, as the graphics look great! I'll even be willing to pick up some of the Williams tables already-released on other versions, if they get a graphical upgrade.

Also, I was excited to hear Pinball Wizard Arcade get a mention, as I've been there a couple of times and it's a pinball and classic video arcade fan's dream come true! Literally hundreds of pinball and classic video game machines, all restored and in great working condition. Really, really cool place that's a bit out of the way, but approximately an hour to an hour and a half drive from the Boston area. Here's their web site: http://www.pinballwizardarcade.com/

That's a lot of balls talk.

Edited by namco51

Whoa. Man, I'll buy anything Farsight puts out that has balls and flippers. I own PHoF:WC on 5 different consoles. Can't wait to give this one a roll (please God, don't let it be ipad, please God, don't let it be ipad, please God, don't let it be ipad, please God, don't let it be ipad, please God, don't let it be ipad,)

Edit: Sweet Jesus, it's on XBLA. :)

Posted by LegendaryChopChop

Looks pretty nice, but I have no nostalgia with any of these boards, and I rather like the "crazy" ideas that are in games like Pinball FX.

Posted by Lokno

Awesome looking tables, but it needs Track IR.

I'm only half kidding.

Posted by Edmundus

Is it the video feed, or is the framerate on this game a bit choppy?

What? Surely you know how rare pinball tables are these days. What are the odds that I'll ever find a place to play that Terminator 2 table again? Friggin' zero, that's what. It's the equivalent of putting arcade games that we'll never see again, like X-Men and The Simpsons, onto PSN and XBLA: digital preservation.

Thing I hate about these digital pinball games, and this might be weird and/or extremely nitpicky, is the crumby perspective. That second table looked like it was being played from a 5 year old's point of view. If the camera is really low or zoomed in and has to follow the ball around, then I don't want to play.
Posted by DjDonFrancisco

I believe Jeff's first game on Black Hole was the equivalent of pulling a brad.

Game Room 2: The Pinball Arcade!

Posted by the_messenger

These guys need to work on a really solid physical virtual table. If they're going after the licenses, it could finally be the time. If they could make one for about $2k or less, it'd sell like crazy.

If any of posters live near Birmingham, AL there's a place called Bumper Nets in the Galleria that has pinball machines for play.

That was what showed that the simulation was pretty spot on. I can remember putting my quarters in and getting robbed on some games. If they are going to get tables that make me feel nostalgic they are going to have go back a bit farther in that way back machine and kick out machines like the old Elton John, Kiss and Playboy machines.
