Hey, look at those high res textures no one can use.

Everyone I know get these textures, sorry your rig isn't up to it.

Actually, it's a legitimate issue where the game will only load high detail textures for cutscenes.

Naturally, Bioware claims that this is a feature/"working as intended": http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=1478869#edit1478869

My favourite part of their explanation/public shaming was where they claimed the medium setting in the Beta was a 'bug'. It just somehow got entered in the code and bound to game files, you know, on its own.

I don't believe so. In KoTOR it was a disease that could be cured, but eventually they would turn into weird ape-looking monsters if the disease ran it's course for too long. It's a neat bit of KoTOR fan service, in a way, that gets a pass from the usual "zombies" thing, IMO.

I've been reading a something awful thread about bad Star Wars books and there is such a thing: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Death_Troopers

Don't read that book, it's not good. It's a lot like Dead Space in starwars but without the suspense, horror or interesting element.

I was just thinking the other day what The Old Republic needs is a bunch of new level 50 content that no one needs yet and not critically required issues like a functional GUI.

Super excited for this. Lots of needed bug fixes in this patch too. Really enjoyed levelling to 50 on my merc BH healer, and I'm further enjoying the end game content. This game is awesome.

On one hand, I like that they are already supplying additional content for players who have reached their level cap. A lot of MMOs have floundered because their end-game content just hasn't been there. I don't know* if this is just "more quests" or if this update is going to incorporate some kind of repeatable mission, like a raid boss or daily quests, but at least it's something.

On the other hand, if things go south in a few months and player counts start to drop, I can totally see these things becoming playable in order to "appeal to a wider audience." I mean, seriously, canon or not, those things look almost exactly like WoW undead. Right down to the hairstyle and glowing yellow eyes.

All-in-all, nice for the players but it does not tempt me to pick-up the game in the least.

*and being that I will never play SWTOR, I really have no desire to find out

Star Wars Zombies is not why I wanted to play this game. The Rakghoul storyline was already played out as part of the general story questline already, bringing them back for more seems like an awesome idea :(

Why? Because it's not what you want? Because it's like WoW? WoW is the most popular mmo in history and the BioWare story telling in this game is on par with the best. I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. Good luck with your weird vendetta, I hope it works out for you.

At first I thouht "Oh God they're shoehorning zombies into this?" and then I realized "Oh it's the Rakghouls, that's cool. They're existing fiction and really aren't zombies, especially since there was a cure for it at some point. Just as long as the transformation is as near instantaneous as it was in KOTOR and those few ones who don't transform much (who look more like generic zombies and who I can only assume to be infected force wielders) are few and far between"

Would've been better if this teaser had shown the team getting taken down by a freshly transformed standard rakghoul rather than what looked like a dirt standard zombie.

Also as someone from Australia who wont see an official release of this game for some months, I'd kindly request Bioware stop mocking me.

The game reveals that since KOTOR the Rakghoul plague has evolved, and it's not instantaneous anymore, and some Rakghoul have evolved into savages that can think, and build simple tools like ladders and walls and such, and some Rakghoul are able to use the force because of a holocron in their possession, which has been teaching them for a while.

It was a pretty cool storyline, and made doing Taris totally worth it.

Wait...didn't that game have rakghouls in it as well? Huh.

Reading some of these comments really irks me. Seeing people bash TOR for being a bad game when they are clearly ignorant of some of the most basic parts of it while simultaneously praising KOTOR when it has the exact same things in it baffles me.

@rmanthorp: On the contrary; at the core, it IS just like WoW. I see very little that is particularly unique about this game, aside from vast empty spaces in the world and the occasional space battle. Thats why I think Bioware will shut it down. I don't think people would want to buy what is essentially the same game twice.

Also, whats with fans of TOR responding to any criticism of their precious game with comments of the same nature as yours? Insinuating that I am some kind of rabid WoW fanboy and that being the reason why I don't like this game is one of the laziest rebuttals I've ever seen. I played WoW once. Didn't like it. If you're going to try and shoot down some honest criticism, at least make your response seem like it wasn't written in a fit of sweaty, impulsive rage.

To all the commentators talking about this game not being "Star Wars"- You're right. I played the beta, and it didn't have that Star Wars feel. WoW with guns is what I came away with. Similar UI, similar mechanics, quest hubs, etc. Exchange Jedi & Sith for Alliance and Horde, blasters and lightsabers for crossbows and swords, and its the same thing over again. If its your cup o' tea, then I hope you enjoy it. Me, I'll be over here waiting for Guild Wars 2- and praying that it whets the ol' MMO whistle.

@beeftothetaco: I get it, I really do. I just don't think saying buying the same game is a bad thing when the game has proven it's greatness among many (It's kind of how this industry works :<). As for the new content, It's 110% BioWare polish and storytelling and that had me really concerned at first but it works. If you like WoW (which I understand many people don't) and like BioWare story telling, then this game is REALLY great at those to parts and they gel together quite well. As for empty environments, I'll admit to that driving me insane during launch. However, that has since changed. BioWare instansted the game to HELL in the first few weeks to ensure a smooth playing experience for most which I really disagreed with, there where multiple planets per server and that really got to me. Since though it has been phased out and there is much less of it with it all going away ASAP.

As for the fanbase of SWTOR, I think I speak for everyone when I say both parties are just as bad as one another. It's a big shame to see something you are very interested and invested in get so brutally thrown to the dogs so I know fans are prone to lash out and we all need to chill and let the game speak for itself. However, on the other hand, the sheer torrent of complete abuse that get's hurled at this game is uttlerly ridiculous at times. I just don't understand it. http://youtu.be/V8AwEju1JsY Look at this video, ALL it is is nothing more than a simple collectibles guide. It doesn't speak to the quality one way or another. Someone has taken the bizarre liberty to comment on it every hour on and on with "SHITTY GRAPHICS = SHITTY GAME!!". What the fuck is that? Like, I have never known a game to get such uninformed idiotic hate in all of my time on the internet.

The fact remains that EA has poured an embarrassing amount of money into this game and it's not going anywhere anytime soon and personally that pretty fucking fine by me, because I am having on hell of a time playing this with my friends. Also my Smuggler just got married so I can't go leaving my girl hanging. Damn BioWare fantastic characterization I wanted to romance my way across the galaxy... *grumble grumble* now I'm all tied down.
