I "got" to work while this went on, so I'm very, very happy it's up today!

Now if only there was a way to ensure Random PC Games every week... Or every day...

I just want to say that this game is great. Very underrated.

Also:

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.

Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.

I've watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.

All those ... moments will be lost in time, like tears...in rain.

Time to die."

To those who have already watched this, where does it rank for a Random PC Game segment?

I'm downloading it right now to watch later.

SO much potential with this game. I remember the promises of randomly decided replicants, the real time activities, opposing Blade Runners who would pick up clues you missed and get your mark before you do, holding off on uploading clues to the police database for the same reason, all sorts of crazy, ambitious stuff.

Beautiful game they ended up with, and still a lot of fun, but not so variable. Bunch of things that don't get used like the conversation moods and the whole clue/suspect database. And I didn't care for the blatant Roy Batty knockoff as a main villain, but ah well. Still a fine adventure.

I'm so stoked to revisit this. I owned it and played it a lot, but I don't really have fond (fun) memories.

I remember a lot of "McCoy - 88F."

I still own this game. Was cool when it was out. Had some of the original actors in it.

ENHANCE!

Man, I remember I was pissed when they killed my dog.

Seems like Vinny is only ever trying to break the game, lol.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt in that maybe he got the production dates wrong and thought Blade Runner came out last, but I winced when he said that. There is little that can top Grim Fandango adventure-wise.

How the hell did I miss this live? Thank God for archives; I've been waiting for them to do this game since Random PC Game began.

I have some pretty vivid memories of the Blade Runner game because I think it was the first PC game I ever owned. I remember clicking on the evidence over and over, amazed that it was read aloud. I remember not having any idea what I was supposed to be doing, just going all over the city clicking on everything until something new happened. Most of all, I remember finding that strip club in the game and being like, "WHOA! I can kind of see boobs!"

Fond memories, indeed. R.I.P. Westwood Studios.

Yeah, duders, obviously Grim. Hence the hyperbole with trepidation, knew someone would think up a game I couldn't.

It's really impressive how good this looks, considering it was released in the same year as FF7 of all things (I think?). I had never even heard of this game before; I had expected much worse from an older, licensed product.

This was almost too "tame" for a random PC game, until the gun shop owner and explosion parts.

I haven't watched yet, but I just had to say that God I love this game. It's deeply flawed, and more a randomly determined choose your own adventure than a standard point and click puzzle game... but damn is it cool. Wish I still had it.

So was this played via straight DOSBOX, DOSBOX running Windows 3.1, or Windows 7? Was it mentioned later in the stream? I own this game but when I got it in 1999, the PC I had was Win 98 (just moved out, so it was my first PC) and there was an issue with the drive format system they went to w/ Win 98 and the Westwood help page wasn't very helpful at the time. So I've seen that intro plenty, but it would crash once I tried to actually do something at that first crime scene.

I don't know if I would understand any of it myself, but Dave linked this on twitter after the stream, which is apparently what got it working on Windows 7 for them.

@snide: I honestly think this *is* the last great adventure game in that this is the path the genre should have taken instead of being obsessed with single-solution, rail-roaded moon-logic puzzles a la The Longest Journey. I will never forgive Funcom for subjecting me to all those puzzles that fly in the face of causality.

I played this game TWICE back in the day. Those characters looked so shitty. The worst part is when you come upon the guy the Jamaican guy killed and you just see blocky chunks everywhere.

Man I played this game last year and had the same issue with the bomb scene. Apparently it's a problem with playing the game on a modern machine. I stumbled through it eventually like they did but later read if you use Turbo to throttle your processor it will work as intended.
