I liked Alan Wake so I'm always down for a pseudo-sequel. The story seems like it's gotten off the rails a little bit but hey that's ok

@Devilb0y: While playing the first game I just assumed that it was video from the week he had forgotten, where he was going kind of nuts.

If this game doesn't start off with, "Last time on Alan Wake..." I will be very disappointed.

Is it just me or did anyone else play through the first game and pick up on literally nothing he's revealed here about Mr Scratch being an alter ego and dreams becoming reality and so on?

I think the fundamentals of the combat are pretty great personally, and by far the strongest component of the main game. The issue is largely with the level design, which is often just a straight path with zero peripheral stuff going on, and to a lesser - but still significant - extent the lacking enemy variety. I get that the lengthy trekking through woods is supposed to be suspenseful, but with the big waypoint circle removing any sense of disorientation and the enemies having lost their eerie quality quite a while earlier, it never really feels particularly thrilling. Which for a thriller is a bit devastating.

The DLC episodes on the other hand were much tighter, and they immediately zipped past the main game in sheer enjoyment. I think we've already got a taste of what a better paced Alan Wake experience is like, and if this builds on those lessons I think they're off to a great start.

Really looking forward to this one, hopefully the fact that it's an XBLA game wont translate into it being too short.

I don't know about this. Alan Wake was a really good one off, but I don't see really enjoying much more of it myself.

Did this trailer just give away the ending of the previous game? I didn't play it, but I'm guessing the whole Mr. Scratch thing is significant.

I got really excited when the trailer mentioned Mr. Scratch. I was hoping they'd explain what the hell he was supposed to be in the first game.

Mr. Scratch is a doppelgänger of Alan Wake supposedly created by Thomas Zane.

The true purpose of Mr. Scratch is unknown, but it is implied that he will return to the surface of Bright Falls while Alan Wake is writing the ending to the story at the bottom of Cauldron Lake. It is probable that Mr. Scratch is supposed to return to Barry Wheeler, Sheriff Breaker, Cynthia Weaver, and Alice Wake, but his reasons and purpose are still unknown.

Old Scratch or Mr. Scratch is a folk name for The Devil in the local legends of New England and pre-Civil War America.

Alan Wake is fantastic. Not sure why everyone hated the combat, I thought it was fantastic. I love how they use real video in game too, its done really well.

Alan Wake is one of my favorite games on the 360 so this will be day 1 for me. I'm pretty surprised the game looked alittle more action oriented than the first. But that's not a bad thing imo.

I hope there's more 'Gods of Asgard' music. Like this little gem...

I was going to say this looks like a more action oriented arcade style Alan Wake but thinking back on that game it was all action anyway - every 5 steps shit came out of the woods.

I like the name a lot! It's in the vein of "Red Hot American Summer," "American History X," or "American Graffiti."

So, there you have it! Alan Wake: American Nightmare is the videogame adaptation of Red Hot American Summer we've all be looking forward to!

Just don't go water skiing with Paul Rudd... Trust me.

Why is everyone so put off by the name? As if Alan Wake or even Max Payne are "better". Overall this falls in line with them, and I can't wait to play it :)

Out of all of the games where you fight off zombie like monsters on a stage with fireworks and rock music, this was my favorite. Sorry Left 4 Dead 2.

I don't understand why it's called American Nightmare.

It's an American character with the events taking place in America, did that need additional clarification or something?

I am pumped, though a bit bewildered at it being an XBLA release.

I don't know about this one. I'd rather their resources be going to making the actual sequel as opposed to this. Also...Mr. Scratch?

The earnestness he talks about LIGHT and DARK with is actually kind of off-putting.
