What a truly awful trailer for what could be a great game.

Cept for that part where Leon was there.

That part was alright.

I can say I'm not looking forward to this game. Well, i'm interested in learning more, possibly to assuage my fears about it, but...  the game seems like it's mainly going to be humans vs humans, with some monsters in between, and I don't come to Resident Evil to fight other humans! Again, maybe the actual game isn't this, but that's what it seems like so far.

I'd rather Capcom just spend their resources remaking RE2. >=[

It looks interesting, but that trailer was put together crappily. I'm kinda worried about the whole faster zombie ascetic from the way it  looked in the trailer. Possibly some very clumsy zombies. Graphically it looks nice, especially for a 3DS game, interested to see how it handles all the action.

This isn't the 3DS game. RE Operation Raccoon City is pegged for a ps3/360/PC release. You're thinking of Resident Evil: Revelations.

Outbreak would be amazing with today's online capabilities. Generic squad-based shooter n+1 strikes me as significantly less interesting.  Doesn't mean I won't get it, or that I'm not super stoked for more RE as a whole, but... I dunno. Outbreak's probably one of my favorite things ever made, and I prefer classic RE over RE4-5 gameplay, so it's hard to be excited when they choose this over all the wonderful possibilities. "
Yes, who doesn't like arbitrary puzzles, key/card hunting,  bad camera angles and tank controls? What a wonderful world of possibilities they left behind right? All of those not-annoying mechanics that in fact haven't plagued the series and didn't put into a position of being so archaic that the rest of the industry almost stopped caring about the series as a whole. Whatever where they thinking.

Now don't get me wrong, I have a certain love for the older RE games, RE2 and RE:CV respectively, but that gameplay ship has fucking sailed by the time RE3 came out. And even the REmake did little except add a new coatof paint, a new area and self defense items.

With this game, I like that it's gone to an action oriented style. You're playing as the Umbrella team from RE2 and RE3. You're there to clean up the G-Virus outbreak. I would expect it to be closer in terms of style to RE4 and RE5. I'd frankly be disappointed if it wasn't.

@Abyssfull: How was he more interesting a character in RE2?  We got no real story from him but it was the stuff going on around him.  There was no real story for anyone other than Claire and that was solely because we knew she was Chris' sister.  She didn't even really get a story until Code Veronica...

..did you not read the rest of the post? I already said because of his relationship with Ada, and his overall gullibility towards everything. He even complained once about how nobody ever listens to him. Plus, he was just a much more well grounded character, instead of, again, the absurd Super Agent Ninja that he became in RE4. That part with the lasers was un-fucking-believable, in the worst way.

@SnakeEyes327:  Seriously you and I both know that any chance of an RE with PS1 era controls is non existant at this point, hence this spin off. And that's a good thing.  What I think he means is an evolution of the Outbreak franchise. It was more about the atmosphere, and the slower pacing made it actually a bit scary I guess. TBH I enjoyed it for what it was, but at the same time felt that it was past its prime.
The only thing I can't understand is that the 2nd Outbreak let you walk and shoot, why the hell that wasn't in RE4-5 is a lil' bit weird to me.

All that aside, wasnt that tyrant standing there like he might be helping your team? That would be cool and yes the trailer sucked.

Wrong.

Factually wrong. Leon was hilariously awesome in RE4. Stuff like the lasers makes it automatically the best story in RE history, by being purposefully silly, instead of seriously bad.

"
since you played both games only recently: are they still fun to play since they shut down the online servers? I mean, do they feel like regular RE games in singleplayer mode?

if yes, then I think I might hunt down Outbreak File #1 and #2 soon! (I loves me some classic pre-RE4 Resident Evil!)

I'd frankly be disappointed if it wasn't. "
Point 1: Outbreak cut out the vast majority of the puzzles and key cards. They still existed, but in sort of the way that they exist in RE4 and 5. "Go here, get a thing, go over there, oh look now it's open." In a multiplayer environment you almost have to do that, and I'm perfectly content not having to deal with backtracking to get a crest to open the door to get a rooster key to go back where I came from and pick up an emblem. Point 2: I personally have never understood how "tank controls" are a terrible thing. RE4 uses the exact same control scheme-- it works fine.

I'm not arguing that a more action-oriented style doesn't fit this particular spin on events; I don't expect that the UBCS would be wandering cautiously around corners, conserving ammo, or jumping at every bump in the night. That would be silly, frankly. I'm only saying that the Outbreak games were awesome, and that I like survival horror a lot better than action-horror. I'm sure it'll be fine (at least, I hope it will), it's just not the sort of thing I'm going to jump out of my seat in excitement over.

Granted, the time for survival horror seems to have pretty much passed. You can't please everyone all of the time, is what I suppose it boils down to. I'm just glad RE is still relevant in any way at all.

I don't think they even got the same voice actor for Leon. The appearance of Mr.X is pretty cool I guess but this doesn't show anything we didn't already know: Raccoon City has a zombie problem.

It makes me sad to see how many people think RE4 is better than the first two games, obviously 90's babies. I see everything Capcom does nowadays as money grab Nos-Con, in saying that this is scratching me right where I itch. Please bring Clare!

I feel bad  for people who think this looks good. You should go an play socom confrontation to see slant sixes work. I was a fan of socom confrontation but that is only because it had the basic socom formula, just filled with horrible bugs.

What I would give for a resident evil game that was just single player, had an isometric camera, clever puzzles and some actual scary moments.

I like me some Resident Evil but... that movement... One thing I have always loved about capcom games is they put so much emphasis on movement. Even if Brad hated it, the deliberate movements made Lost planet 2 for me. The movement and shooting looked a little too arcade-y for me if that makes sense. Though this is a really early trailer... I dunno.
