@zevvion: True, it's not quite to akin to the more obvious third person shooters, but I found stealth to be more of a means to get one over on the enemy rather than completely essential. I also missed some of the gadget orientated stuff that Conviction didn't really do (though there's more cause to bring that back in this one).

@evilnights: Hm. Well, I found that most sections had multiple ways of dealing with the enemies in a stealthy fashion. It was just at points where I couldn't figure it out that I used action to just proceed to the next area.

I liked that feature. Otherwise, I would have had to play that section allot more times than I would have liked. It's not like it ever truly became a cover shooter. Once discovered, you could shoot and disappear. You could never just keep popping up and killing dudes. At least, I didn't have that experience on Realistic.

It was more so a means not to have to restart. Not a means to just shoot your way through.

One of my best experiences ever in multiplayer was in double agent and chaos theory. Why did they take out spies vs ops? It was the only thing that made that game worth the $60 bucks. Who is going to buy a 6 hour single player game with no online, especially after that abomination conviction.

Spies vs Mercs is in the game along with a lot of coop modes.

HELL YEAH UPPER ECHELON PACK AND GOLD GOGGLES! I'm not probably gonna buy a single Splinter Cell game because of the crapfest that was Conviction.

I'm curious why Splinter Cell fans seem to dislike Conviction? I have played the original, Chaos Theory, Double Agent and Conviction, but I didn't finish most of them. Can't say I was a huge fan of the series, but I really liked Conviction. There was less waiting around and more doing stuff.

Is that why the true fans disliked it? I'm just wondering.

Sounds stupid, but that's kind of it for me anyway. Stealth is more of an optional in Conviction, usually if you break stealth it's still a viable cover based shooter, whereas if you broke stealth in the previous games you were kind of screwed. I just find the previous games more calculating and ultimately more satisfying as a result.

Even so, despite this not being entirely what I want from a Splinter Cell game (Ironside notwithstanding) I imagine I'll still play it.

Yeah I really didn't like the more actiony gamestyle they were pushing for. Also the adventures of Sad Fisher really didn't hit me at all in any dramatic sense and I just didn't care what was happening on the screen. I actually didn't finish the game. I got so bored and mad at some lab part which had a ton of laser traps and somesuch and I just quit. I watched the rest on youtube and it seemed to turn into some weird all out "HOLY SHIT FISHER! WATCH OUT FOR THAT HELICOPTER GUNSHIP! BOOM!"-thing.

I need to get Chaos Theory again. That was sooooo good.

I see. It's exactly why I liked it though. Having to restart stuff is annoying to me. I liked the option of using other means to proceed.

I do not mind a combo of stealth action, but it felt way off in Conviction.

To some extent I should probably concede that I preferred the feel of Chaos Theory and Double Agent for a lot of the wrong reasons. While the shooting and cover mechanics are easily a lot more refined in Conviction, the previous games put a higher emphasis on stealth kills and staying in the shadows (the latter of which seemed really flimsy in the last game).

Admittedly a lot of the changes in Conviction are probably a product of just how dated the mechanics and AI were getting. For example, shooting out a light in Conviction causes everyone in the room to freak the fuck out and they'll never go back to a quiet state. Ultimately that's more realistic if we're honest, but has an annoying tendency to lock the game into cover based shooting.

First of all, as someone who didn't play a single minute of Spies vs Mercs, in any Splinter Cell game, I can safely say that I don't agree in the slightest. Second, all SC games since Chaos Theory have had multiplayer, and I'm going to buy the next Splinter Cell because Conviction was good.

So try again.

I don't know who is making these decisions at Ubisoft. They should have made Sam Fisher (voiced by Ironside) the head of Fourth Echelon and filling a similar role to what Lambert did in the first games and create a new character for the new voice actor.

Sam is old as fart now, he shoudl retire in dignity, the only reason to keep him around is to continue the Megiddo story, and it doesn't look like thats happening...

Ugh, if only. I'd be kind of excited if that were the storyline they went with. This seems kinda... cliche, uninspired. It's more or less an excuse for the gameplay (which I think looks pretty good, personally). Talk about lost potential...

Kind of weird that both the next Splinter Cell and Metal Gear games lost their established gruff voice actors and I think in both cases it was a creative decision.

I for one am really excited about this. Perhaps it's because I have a more open mind and don't have all the love for Ironside that many of you had for him growing up with this series. I was more a Metal Gear Solid guy. Though I can see your point of view with the whole No David Hayter in the next game. But I'm open minded and I'll judge this game when it comes out. And I hope people don't just avoid it because of the lack of Ironside. For all we know, it could be awesome.

Hmmm... not really the same without Ironside. My favorite is still Chaos Theory. I enjoyed Double Agent and Conviction but Conviction was too streamlined and Double Agent had those bullshit bits between missions that were boring as fuck!

If this game is as fun as Conviction (while hopefully fixing some of that game's problems) then I don't give a fuck if Ironside is voicing Fisher or not.

I wonder if they decided to alter his face because of the change in voice actors because that looks a lot different than the Sam Fisher I'm used to.

If it wasn't for the lack of Ironside...I think I'd be way more excited for this, because they seem to be moving the gameplay in the right direction.

But, goddamn. They need to get Ironside back.

While I'm aware that this game and Conviction are departures from the first few Splinter Cells, I still want to play it. I didn't really care for the gameplay of the original Splinter Cells, I really liked Conviction, so I'm hoping that this is more like that, just better.

As for the trailer though, eh.

What I'm still waiting to find out is whether or not Sam Fisher can do the split jump again in this game. I missed that in Conviction.

Oh, and Who turned out the lights?!
