Where does he go to the bathroom in this dilapidated world? I mean, even if he uses a bathroom, it probably doesn't have running water so his waste just lays there at the bottom of the bowl.. The flusher obviously doesn't work because that requires the cistern to be full of water. Then there's the issue of toilet paper, which I would assume there isn't an abundance of. All in all then, this is a shitty world to live in, because he can't take a nice relaxing shit without worrying about the water, the toilet paper, and he probably has nothing to read on the shitter either.

@CaLe:I have it from reliable sources that you simple cease to shit once human civilization collapses. This explains why nobody ever bothered to fix the toilets in the various Fallout games.

What? I thought this game was cancelled.

Also... "A ruined Chicago after a devastating earthquake"? Right, because it's just one earthquake after another here in Chicago. I think the nearest fault line is like three hundred miles away.

Feel satisfied for nit-picking now? I will use a different word, for your sake, in the future.

Find your girlfriend. Simple rule since Super Mario: If you don't know the goal of a videogame its probably to find/rescue your girlfriend.

OTOH, I would presume almost ANY reasonably powerful earthquake might then be devastating.

We absolutely have had earthquakes in Illinois, and the Chicago area.

Did I say we've never had an earthquake? I implied they were rare, which is true, and I said the nearest fault line is hundreds of miles away, which is also true. This far away from a fault line, an earthquake would never cause any kind of significant damage.

A few years back there was supposedly an earthquake (a 3.8 according to your sarcastic little link, one of the most powerful in decades), and I didn't feel a thing. I didn't even know it'd happened until I saw it on the news. In fact, here's my own little sarcastic link of every recorded earthquake in Illinois history. Oh no! Reports of toppled chimneys and cracked plaster! All you can depend on anymore are your own two hands! Don't think too hard about the future! I AM ALIVE!!

My point is if you're going to make a game about a massive catastrophic earthquake, why in the world would they choose to set it in Chicago? It's a strange choice is all I'm saying.

It's a game. Not a documentary. It's a freak occurrence nobody was prepared for ... so why set in in earthquake-ready California? It makes way more sense to set it in a place that is unprepared.

Looks neat, I suppose. I'm not sure what the draw to it is, other than something to tide over the 6 people that played Disaster Report.

A 3.8 would barely wake a Californian out of bed. And here comes some lessons from earthquake preparedness in 3...2...1...

OK first off Richter is only a rough translation to property damage. Distance from the fault obviously matters, but not just 2D distance but the depth of the fault below the ground. Time also matters, obviously the longer the quake the more damage regardless of it's rating any given second. Third the TYPE of motion also matters particularly in relation to houses built on inclines, taller structures, and the ground material.

Important to your objections, scientists are finding new faults all the time. New faults are found in California of all places at the rate of 2-3 a year. They've found new faults from New York to Arkansas. In video games where a presumably normal dude can off 1000+ mercenaries (I'm looking at you Uncharted), why would an undiscovered fault near Chicago only being discovered after releasing a quake be all that strange?

And more relevant to MY point, if a large quake did occur, wouldn't a city that had no particular fear of one be the PERFECT place to put one? Sure a 9.8 would devastate any California city, heck the entire state would be snarled depending on where it was, but I'd bet a 1000 fold smaller one would be pretty bad in a city without the planning, prep, or building codes to account for it.

More relevant to your point, while it's obviously a major stretch for a devastating Chicago earthquake anytime soon, given it looks like people have been in this predicament long enough to have rules for survival and already well into a scavenger lifestyle, one must assume that an earthquake in Chicago is the LEAST of the concerns for the rest of the world. Given the grey coloring and particulates (which admittedly could just as easily be from fires from all those gasmains that aren't even remotely designed to be earthquake failsafe) it's entirely possible a WORLD devastating event just occurred and it manifested locally in Chicago as an earthquake. Possibilities include asteroid strike, supervolcano, comicbook supervillainy, etc.

Exactly. Plus, dramatic skylines aren't really a California thing anyways. Got all that space to grow bloated on and those pesky earthquakes to worry about. For my money, it would be far more interesting to be in a setting unprepared for the event.

This looks really good but there is one thing that's annoying me.

I love survival games like this, but survival games usually need non linear gameplay otherwise it doesn't feel like YOU'RE surviving. I know there is supposed to be an in depth story but hopefully they find a sweet spot.

Chicago demanded all the pipes in the city be painted red.
