wow, hadn't even heard of this, but i sure as hell want another good game for the wii after skyward sword is over.....yes will buy this.

British accents for everyone!

Posted by Dagbiker

very cool, hopefully buying this.

While I'm going to buy this because I really enjoyed Lost Odyssey and this strikes me as being in the same vein as it. I cannot help but notice how terrible this games graphics are. I'm not aware if this was a lower budget Wii game or not but wow... ugly.

Playing through Xenoblade as well, it's easy to see that the Wii is a pretty damn weak console. These RPG's can't look as good as Super Mario Galaxy because they're ten times as complex, so they have to go with pretty simple character models in order to create detailed background and whatnot.

It's unfortunate, but these games being lower budget are probably the only reason they're able to be made at all this gen.

The song at the end reminds me of one of the songs from Lost Odyssey.

It's natural, since both soundtracks were composed by Nobuo Uematsu.

Yes, of course :)

But there is something really specific about it that I can't quite place. I might have to go back and listen to some Lost Odyssey tracks. I can imagine worse ways to spend some time so I might actually do that!

Was it just me or did the singer doing the humming at the end sound really flat?

I think the voice actor is still in key, just humming casually and not being completely pitch perfect. I mean, the scale that the melody is based on has flat notes in it but that's how it's suppose to sound.

Whoa. It's so refreshing to hear British accents in a game. More of this please!

Did you not play Xenoblade? For shame!

I was about to say "wtf? This is a trailer for Xenoblade!" but then I remembered it wasn't. They both just happen to be Wii JRPGs that were being petitioned to be brought to the west and both happened to feature British accents.

I enjoyed both Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, so I'm very excited about this one.

wow, these graphics look ass.

Such amazing and original JRPG character design and story!

It shines of creativity. And spiky hair.

That is a real "Oi Guvna!" accent you got going there. Also, sort out that fringe, you look like a mess.

I'd totally play this, but I wouldn't buy a Wii to do so.

I know it's from the original final fantasy dudes...but this looks like a train wreck .

Not according to the European reviews that have come in so far.

This is kind of a bad trailer. Really disjointed.

Wow wish I had a Wii to play this

If Xenoblade and now this prove anything its that British accents work surprisingly well in a JRPG.

Dunno, this trailers dialogues make it sound extremely overdone. "Im BRiTAAAAsszzz LiShen to me shpEaik". Anyways, why (when done naturally) wouldn't it work in the first place..I don't get it, whats suprising about it? Also, FF12 and plenty of other jrpgs have had british voice actors..

Edited by John1912

What a fuckin wanker! He really named it Last Story? Is he that lazy? Or is he trying to cash in riding the coat tails of the Final Fantasy name. Either way hes a douche.

*Edit Oh yea Lost Odyssey, I guess he is just really fucking lazy, He must pull out his thesaurus for alternate words for Final Fantasy every time he names a game.

I honestly don't understand all the hype for this game. It looks incredibly average. Has anyone played it so they can tell me first-hand if the game is actually good?

Posted by kollay

This isn't a fair assessment but I turned it off after I only had to move next to an enemy to hit him. Just using the left stick, no face button presses or anything.

Having EVERYONE talk like that (and poorly to boot) kinda killed Dragon Quest for me.

What are you on about? That was, like, one of the best things about it.

Also, people that "talk like that" actually exist. It would be like traveling to Europe and being disappointed that no one speaks English with an American accent.

Beggin' y'pardon, but I'm not one to promote xenophobia let alone be accused as such. It's all too easy to come across pig-headed and ignorant in the comments, so allow me to set this straight.

My issue wasn't the decision to cast them as rogueishly European. I'm a New Zealander, a generation and a half removed from being born in the UK. I'm certainly not going to judge based on that and besides, variety stops everything sounding and looking the same. So yeah, I count myself among the people that talk like that - but not "like that".

No, my issue was the voice actors coming across a bit over-top; not stereo-typically terrible but maybe laid on a little thick in some places and judging by comments, I'm not alone in believing this. Syrenne's character (the one clapping for more drinks) played by Kelly Wenham is threatening to cross the line. It would be like travelling to Europe and finding everyone speaks like they stepped out of a period drama, the Renn Faire or Mary Poppins....and possibly all rolled into one.

BUT, I do appreciate the difficulties in dubbing voice over work, especially the conflict of dialogue content vs lip synching and emotional portrayal without resorting to melodrama.

AND I'm making a big assumption based around a trailer. A lot of, if not ALL, of the voice actors are native Brits so that makes me believe they put some thought into the casting.

It's not going to be a deal breaker, I'm as RPG starved as any other Wii owner. I just may end up grinning and bearing it when certain characters open their mouths (Vanille?)

But I stand by my comments on Dragon Quest - Yangus was great, he had personality, and made me laugh. It was just every other character in the game putting on their best pirate/prostitute impression that got tired really quick.

Posted by Hailinel

@JakeLogan: The Last Story was localized in Europe; all of the voice actors in the English language version are, as far as I know, from the British Isles. If a character comes across as over-the-top, it's likely either because the character is meant to be over-the-top, or the actor is overacting. And well, the game is set in a fantasy universe, so if it sounds like a period drama, then then I'd give them the benefit of the doubt in saying that it's intentional.

Frankly, I find it a welcome change, because as an American, I all too frequently hear characters in these obviously medieval European-inspired settings sound as though they came from Seattle.

The fact that the hype around this is centered on being from one of the original creators of a genre, and that genre itself doing incredibly little to evolve into modern era, this looks poor and boring. Original Final Fantasy games are great classics, but I don't care if Hironobu Sakuguchi made this.

Beating dead horses don't make for good video games.

@CashBailey: Personally I liked FF9 and 10 more than Lost Odyssey, but I REALLY loved Lost Odyssey.

Why the heck aren't we getting this in the U.S.?

Posted by Turambar

Regardless of the quality of the game, that was not a very good trailer.

Posted by Dan_CiTi

@heatDrive88: Have you actually seen gameplay of the game? It is an action RPG with all kind of stealth and squad tactics stuff, not just another typical FF game with a different name. It's more of an action game with an RPG story and length.

Much like Lost Odyssey felt like "proper" FFX, this feels like a good replacement for the disappointing FFXIII (though I think the 13 games have some cool ideas).

Also if everyone in Dragon Quest VIII wasn't british that game would be garbage, that being said that was an awesome game and while the Dragon Quest series lacks some of the greatness of FF, it is much more consistent.

Posted by Diablos1125

Not too happy with the character designs. Interested to see how the squad tactics pan out. Nobuo knocking it out the park with the score though.

Posted by mr_shoeless

While watching this, all I could think of was how much better it would look in HD.

Posted by Tesla

Bad trailer for a less than stellar looking game (in both mechanics and graphics).

I want nothing more than to like this game given the pedigree, but sadly it is not to be. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Posted by joelalfaro

Lost Odyssey love from me too!
